My sister is a nurse in NYC and I'm just struggling with that. Not only is every fallen healthcare worker a loss in fighting the virus, but it's a demoralizing blow for those remaining to see colleagues and friends falling ill or dying, both because of caring for that person and knowing it can happen to them.
It's not a war, fine, but it's dropping war-like problems on the frontline. And she's a hero to me even if she doesn't want to be called one. Her message to everyone has been "we're out here fighting this, so you stay home."
