Games on SALE!

GOG is having their spring sale. There's a whole bunch of course, but they've been nice enough to simply make a list of their deepest discounts. Every game on here is discounted at least 89%. Not much left there over $2, and quite a few decent or good games if you don't have them.
Also, they're giving away copies of XIII , which I think is the original version and not the crappy remake.

New games added to Prime Gaming today:
- Move or Die: Couch Party Edition
- Before I Forget
- The Escapists
- Moving Out
- Aces of the Luftwaffe – Squadron

Also recently added was The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics... I've heard it's crappy, though.

This week's freebies from Epic are:
- Deponia: the Complete Journey
- Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth
- The First Tree

I know nothing about Deponia or Pillars, but The First Tree is pretentious crap. It can be pretty, but the story is poorly told and not integrated into the gameplay well. The maps are horribly designed. Most of the time is spent wandering around empty spaces, interspersed with finding audio triggers so close together that you'll have to sit and wait to trigger the next one if you want to hear all of the story. It's an awkward journey with no real payoff at the end.

GOG.com is giving away copies of Tonight We Riot, which describes itself as a "crowd based retro brawler".
Just a warning for folks: This is a HIGHLY political game and it doesn't pretend that it's not (it's originally from itch.io) about socialist worker liberation in capitalist police state.

It's being released in honor of International Workers Day (you might call it May Day), which is the actually Labor Day that gets celebrated around the world and not the fake one the US government moved to September to intentionally distance the day from it's labor origins.

New games available through Prime Gaming:
- Healer's Quest
- Beholder
- The Blind Prophet
- Yoku's Island Express
- A Blind Legend

Some very interesting offerings here. Most notably A Blind Legend is an audio-only adventure game, Yoku's Island Express combines platforming with pinball elements, and Healer's Quest is a comedy RPG. All have mostly or overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam.

Hrm. I really don't need more games, but I also kind of want to play Baba Is You and Saints Row the Third.

Steam's Open World Sale is this weekend, and has a bunch of stuff from my wishlist on sale.

It's Among Us (just the base game)

But there's another mystery game next week. (He says with less enthusiasm than last time.)
It likely won't be next week's mystery game, but I wouldn't be surprised if Maneater is offered for free at some point.

If I were Epic and wanted to be huge asshole, I would've made it a free game this week, on the same week it released on Steam. I can't imagine a bigger "fuck you" to Valve than giving away a game for free that you held hostage as exclusive for the past year.

Considering that a game's first week on Steam is a significant chunk of it's sales, and also influences it's place on the chart and in algorithms, I imagine that Epic would have to offer a serious chunk of change to the developer in exchange. Whatever game this happened to would risk causing sales of their game to tank permanently by giving up their main chance at gaining momentum on Steam.

Some big names from Prime Gaming this month:
- Battlefield 4 (redeems on Origin)
- Batman - The Telltale Series

Plus the more usual list of smaller titles:
- BFF or Die
- Newfound Courage
- Lost in Harmony
- Mugsters
- Spitkiss
- Frog Climbers
- Mana Spark
- Bombslingers
- Faraway Directors Cut

Oh, and if you haven't noticed yet, Prime Gaming now has it's own launcher, which blows, but does include the ability to claim the free games right there instead of the previous process (log into Amazon account with Prime, log into Twitch, claim games). If you were already claiming the games, you probably had the Twitch launcher installed anyway.

Anyone who doesn't have it already can also grab Homeworld: Remastered on Steam for less than $4, and all the DLCs (including the soundtracks, but not the Kharak expansion) are less than a buck. They're even throwing in the original non-remastered versions for free when you buy the bundle.
