Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

To be fair, we didn't see the actual questions. Maybe it was something like:

1) Do you consider yourself racist?
- "No. I love all people equally."
2) Are you okay with black people moving into your neighborhood?
- "Ew, god no. Anything but that!"

Tell that to the Democrats, and specifically, the CBC.
I know you almost-certainly don't mean Canada, but up here the "CBC" is the "Canadian Broadcasting Corporation" aka "Same as the BBC, except we suck at everything", aka "Liberal (and further left) Propaganda 'R Us". So your statement still applies!

I assumed he meant HUD anyway.

Well, I was referring to the Congressional Black Caucus.

I suspect the US and some of Europe will be pulling out of the games this year over this, if not just a few events. I'm willing to bet that at least 2 or 3 teams have gay members.

Frankly, I hope so. Were things ideal, I would hope every civilized western nation would pull out of the games in protest. But I'm not optimistic. An athlete's apex might not be such that he or she can wait another 4 years and still be in prime condition, and a lot of them will probably weigh their morality, identity or pride against getting their one shot at "the gold."

If that was an actual issue, most of the western world wouldn't be doing business with the middle east, China (That's the big one) and a whole host of other countries. This type of news brings it to prominence, but its hardly new for those places, and quite frankly, as long as people get their (you name it) people don't actually care.

Harsh, but true. They'll post on forums or whatever, but will they go out and boycott country's products, or even TRY to? No.

IIRC, the general consensus of US gay athletes is that they don't want a boycott and would rather use the Olympics as a stage to further their cause, like the black guys who raised their fists back in the 60s

Well there is precedent... there has been a boycott of an olympics in russia before, in 1980, and that was merely over their invasion of Afghanistan.

Frankly I'm surprised they didn't do it long ago. CNN and NBC have been cogs in the democrat machine for years, and I always thought it was pretty ridiculous for the RNC to suffer their nominees being subjected to hostile/biased mediator after mediator. Having Chris Matthews moderate a republican primary debate is just as ridiculous as having Sean Hannity moderate for Democrat primary debates. There is clear bias, and it's absolutely obvious that CNN and NBC are already trying to load up for Hillary 2016.

And just to be clear, these are for the primary debates, not the general election debates.

Pff, if anything the Republicans should be forced to only debate on channels where the moderator will be hostile. Likewise with the Democrats. Honestly our debate system is so shitty and boring it's pretty much pointless. Who gives a flying fuck if the precious Republicans have be asked a question like "Whats on your iPod?" by evil democrat Wolf Blitzer? Or if some Fox News dipshit asks a democrat something equally dumb? Seriously. If you watch debates expecting to LEARN something important about a candidate then please turn in your voter card now.

Again, this is for the primary. This is where the party is supposed to be vetting who best suits their platform, not giving George Stephanopolous a forum to ask a completely off-the-wall, left-field question about banning birth control to lay the groundwork for a fictional "war on women" when nobody had even so much as mentioned such an issue up until that point.

Letting Democrat footsoldiers moderate Republican primary debates was pretty stupid of the Republicans.

Now, if you want to talk about abolishing the primary process altogether and having instant runoff elections, I'm all ears. But in the current system, Republicans were being mystifyingly obtuse about their own best interests.

I don't give a shit if it's the primary or the general election. I'd much rather see a semi-serious vetting of candidates than Fox News giving them all blowjobs. Of course the real problem is that, even with Newsbusters (Newsbusters ) outrage over the audacity of G.S. to ask Mitt Romney a question, the debates hosted by everyone are dumb and pointless. Candidates aren't held accountable for the bullshit they spew and no one seems to care. It doesn't matter if it's Obama or Michelle Bachmann. The press is so terrified of really pushing these folks because then they will lose "access" to them. And by access I mean ratings from the coverage. And by coverage I mean NOTHING OF ANY REAL IMPORTANCE.

Hah... you know who I heard gripe about that exact thing, in those exact words?

Rush Limbaugh.

Worse, the moderators are lambasted when they DO hold the candidates accountable. Jesus fuck, our country is going downhill quick.
