Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

I want to believe that releasing those results was intended as, “hey everyone, look at this unexpected and curious result. I bet you weren’t expecting that, were you?”
Buuuuuuut that’s not what ended up happening.

Her claim is too nuanced to survive the public forum.
Yup, people just suck at understanding how statistics and genetics work: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ren-dna-test-is-wrong/?utm_term=.abd59aefe570

I mean the whole "white ppl have 0.18% NA ancestry on average" taken as meaning all white americans have NA ancestry is so damn retarded...

It was always going to dog her if she made a run for higher office.
Which is why getting it out of the way now might not have been a bad idea.

And to not attack her would be to condone her co-opting of their culture and heritage for political game.
Ah yes, responding to Trump is a bad idea... and so is not responding...

And it's her fault, while Trump can just continue to call her Pocahontas with no one minding.

As long as we hold them accountable for their shitty behavior,
Yeah, giving them control over your political system after years of birtherism and obstruction = punishing them...

Oh, and just in case, here's Trump saying he thinks she has no NA ancestors:

Oh, and then there's this:

Well, Warren's fucked as presidential candidate, since the most minor shit still sinks most politicians.

It's not like she has dozens of sexual assault and misconduct allegations or anything, she just defended herself against persistent racist bullshit, the idiot.

Giant Beto O'Rourke Sign on Texas Lawn Sparks Threats from 'Hostile' Homeowners' Association

TLDR: homeowner paints his grass to say "BETO" and neighbors come out of the woodwork to threaten them, then the HOA says they're in violation of deed restrictions, despite the fact that Texas law says you can't restrict people from putting up signs in favor of candidates.

Betcha if they'd painted their lawn with the local high school's mascot, no one would have batted an eye.

Did Fox Noise say something about kids not learning cursive recently? I've been seeing a lot of people rant about it lately. (including my parents )

I seriously don't understand how people get so worked up about dumb shit. Who the fuck cares if your child can't write cursive?! Teach it to them yourselves if you care that much.

There are people who complain because our school district loans every kid an iPad and "I am paying teachers to teach my kids not Apple." Your kids are so used to technology that giving them an iPad probably makes them 1000% more likely to do their schoolwork than not, because it makes it easier for them to do so. Stop wanting everything to be like it was for you as a kid.

Don’t forget those who complain because they want the schools to teach the kids, “Not Apple,” as in they feel like giving them an iPad when they’re 8yrs old means they will be making Samsung burnt offerings to their basement Steve Jobs shrine by the time they’re 12.

But the Robocop we had back when I was a kid was so much better than the Robocop the kids got these days!

. . . in fairness, though, the modern Roseanne promises to be better than the one I had growing up.

Next we'll learn that kids aren't being taught to use an abacus, or operate a cotton gin any more!
I've heard "they should still teach math using slide rules" from my dad quite a few times. "It teaches the importance of significant digits, and how to estimate your answer so you know when you get something completely wrong. Using calculators just teaches people to go with whatever answer it spits back, and not think about if the answer is right."

Things I imagine are also on someone's should-be-taught list: card catalogs in libraries, putting a double space after a period, and that slavery was only a minor cause for the Civil War.

I believe my comment was, "There are a lot of things wrong with the school system, but not teaching cursive is not one of them."

My kids are allowed to use calculators for basic arithmetic at this point since they are both doing high school math and already know how to do that. It saves them from getting things wrong because they had a brain fart with addition. Heck, sometimes the teachers give them a zero for homework if they get things wrong because they are given the answer key and are expected to show all their work that got them to the right answers, instead of just blinding turning in their work that is supposed to give them practice at making sure they know how to get the right answers. The amount of stupid basic arithmetic mistakes I made in high school math class always filled me with despair.
