Halforum Minecraft Server

The 26th is Lily's 5th birthday, so we'll be out for part of the day. He says if it is early enough on Saturday (our time - six hours behind eastern time) he will be there. He said he has bows with P4, P2, and U3, plus snow and iron golems. He also has extra armor if anyone needs it.

Dunno yet. It's why I tagged Ol' Banana in the thread. To get a better handle on his schedule.

I'll try to be on a little early. Do we have any specific plans for how this is going to go down?

I'm assuming we'll be building Iron and Snow Golems to help us out in the End?

The Enderdragon is no more!

But Dave's Twitch glitched, so there's no recording.

Which is too bad, because now you can't see the video of me totally soloing the Enderdragon with my bare hands.

The Ender Dragon got it's ass handed to it.

Do we make plans to wreak havoc on the world with the Wither next? (I'm thinking no. I've summoned that asshole in creative mode, and he's really destructive and annoying to hunt down and kill.)

Me and Aussie already took him down once. I'm guessing it wasn't the first and only time.

You also have to realize that we went in totally prepared. There were four of us all with potions, lots and lots of golems, and even had a place to hide that Aussie had set up.

During this fight, two people died. Aussie got jumped by a bunch of Enders. Drifter climbed a pylon to get a crystal and he either fell or got knocked off.

So it seemed easy - and it kind of was - but I couldn't see doing this alone.

I could see a 2.5 hour live action movie being made from the above treatise, and it being worth seeing.

I got a little time this morning, and here is a new static map: 8/11/20214 map

Also, here's a backup of the world. It's from the 11th, which is when the map was made: 8/11/2014 world

Some pretty cool new stuff in there. If anyone is interested in generating a fancy interactive map, I could probably post my overviewer folder and how to run it.

The FULL notes for every weekly for 1.8: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/1.8/Development_versions

Basically, it's huge. Don't click that lightly. But it does show that a massive amount is coming, including Rabbits, new rock types, and most importantly, Ocean Monuments. New mobs, new resources, and lots of other goodies that I'm sure are even more important to others.

I'm thinking a re-start after that happens. I'm thinking this type of timeline:
  1. 1.8 Launches
  2. Final backup of the "old" world made. Both map and actual world file available for download
  3. Launch the completely blank new world for 1.8
How does that sound to people? I'm not the server admin (Shakey is) but I figure we all want to talk about it, and see where we're all at.

I know that up until now, the server's been strictly vanilla, but with just one mod (Multiverse for Bukkit), the server can keep the current map, and yet have it connect via portal to a new ungenerated map for 1.8.

That's what we did when I was administrating the server, and we needed a new map for a new version. If memory recalls, you can even set it so each map has independent inventories, so if you want the purist "starting over" experience, it can force that.

Even though I have a rather massive empty hole (that I'm not technically finished building!), I would be in favor of a restart.
Sooooo many changes in 1.8 that it would be a logical place to restart.
The alternative to using a mod would just be to run a new port for the new server, and then close down the old one when it gets to be more than 30 days between log-ins.

So I guess this means the legion of almost broken picks and swords I have I should just go ahead and use, then?

Restart away! I love building from scratch, anyway. See if I can make a village again with the new rules.

And Gas, while multiverse is a possibility, there is something about "the old is gone, make do with what you have" as well, and I find that a greater motivator on new servers. But that's just me. I can understand your perspective as well. The "forced new inventory" might be enough, but I don't necessarily want to add to the complexity Shakey needs to manage. Old and new servers on different ports/hosts would be better IMO.

Yeah, it may work just as well to put a new server on a separate port. Less management overhead, and I'd be surprised if Bukkit was updated for 1.8 within a few weeks of the launch.

It might use up a lot of ram, though. Even when nobody's on a server, the server is ram thirsty.

They won't just breed because of the number of doors. They now have to be "in the mood". They get "in the mood" by either trading with them or letting them farm. But the last time I built a village and added a plot of farming, they ignored it like Chernobyl. So the only way was to trade, which was unwieldy.

With how long it took Bukkit to release a stable version of 1.7, I seriously doubt we'll see a 1.8 version any time soon. It would be nice though. I can look into putting the old server on a new port.

I'm all for doing a full wipe. The game can get a bit stale after you've made everything you need.

Honestly, I would be hugely annoyed at a total map wipe, as I'm still not finished with my build, and the big reason I was building was specifically with SMP in mind.

How about moving the spawn point far away. That would give people who start new a chance to do so. Destroy your bed and die. We could connect it through the nether eventually.

I'm against anything other than a clean break. It's unfortunate for people who have stuff "on the go" right now, but it's how I feel.
