What is it?
Just what it sounds like. It's a Secret Santa between your fellow halforumites. Everyone who signs up will be randomly assigned another participant. You are then tasked to buy that person a gift. As a recipient, you should leave a few hints in a post to this thread as to what sort of interests you have.

Rules and Info

International people are allowed. If you would prefer not to get an international person, indicate so when you sign up. It may be the case that if you restrict your choice to local shipping then matching might not work out and you may be left out - I'll let you know once the matching is complete if that's the case. So far we've always been able to match everyone that wanted to participate and meet their shipping requirements.

Who can sign up?
To keep things fair, only those with a join date earlier than April 15, 2012 and more than a handful of posts will be allowed to participate for obvious reasons. If you would like to participate and don't fall under the requirements then you will just have to wait until next year. The final say of who can join this activity will be entirely up to Dave so there may be exceptions, but the final word is final. Don't complain if special dispensation is not made for you. This goes for those who may be disincluded as well.
The deadline for signing up will be November 9th. After that day, Santas will be randomly assigned by computer. You will be sent an email or PM shortly after with the information of whom you will be drawing a gift for. If nobody knows who you are, you probably will not be allowed to sign up. Nothing personal.
Recommended gift value is $5-20. Feel free to spend as much as you want, just be aware that the more you spend, the less likely you will receive a gift of equal value. Also, homemade/handmade gifts are allowed, and even encouraged (no homemade food please).
ABSOLUTE FINAL DEADLINE FOR GIFTS SENT IS JANUARY 4th! PEOPLE WHO DO NOT SEND GIFTS BY JANUARY 4th WILL BE SUSPENDED BY THEIR BIG TOES AND LEFT TO DRY OUT IN THE COLD, DRY MICHIGAN WINTER. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are not sure you will be able to send a gift, then don't sign up.
Do not complain about your gift, conversely, try to send something you think the other person will like.
You MUST post pictures of your gift when you receive it. No exceptions.
UNLESS SPECIFIED AS SOMETHING THEY WOULD LIKE, PLEASE DO NOT SEND NSFW OR ALCOHOLIC GIFTS. Please note that many states/nations have rules about shipping alcohol, so when in doubt, choose another gift.
CAN I SHIP SOMETHING STRAIGHT FROM AMAZON OR SOMETHING?
Yes you can, and it's a good idea to shop at your person's home country's Amazon site (www.amazon.ca for instance) if you want to save a bit on shipping. Be sure and provide a note upon checkout saying who you are, though!
BE SURE AND SHIP WELL IN ADVANCE
Get your act together NOW and ship your stuff by Dec 7th to make sure it arrives before the crazy Christmas rush that always happens at the latter half of December.

Privacy Policy:
I've already destroyed all information collected for the previous ~~two~~ three secret santas, and this year will be no exception. Your information will only be used for the purposes of assigning you a secret santa who is the only person who will receive your provided information in order to send you a gift. At the conclusion of this secret santa event, usually in January, all my own records concerning the secret santa will be destroyed.

Keep in mind that homemade gifts are fine, and in fact many people prefer them. That and $5-$10 shipping via the post office might meet your budget.

Aaaaand, it might not be happening tonight. Tomorrow night's not looking good either. I'm going to do it as soon as I can, and hopefully it's very soon, but I don't want everyone waiting on pins and needles, and I don't want to rush it either - while it's a random process, I still have to make sure everyone's shipping requirement is met, no one gets themselves, and this year I'm trying to make sure people don't get someone they got last year, so it's a somewhat lengthy manual process still.

Lots of US and Canadian people left their country out of their address. If the zip code has letters in it, it's probably Canada. Otherwise it's probably US, or it's specifically stated as part of the address. If it's not obvious, PM me and I'll let you know.

Send your gifts as soon as possible! Then let me know so I can put the date you sent it on my list, so if your giftee starts to worry I can let them know if it's been sent, and how long ago it was sent.

I think I was pretty thorough in my own wish list, but here goes...

- Miniatures for my Pathfinder game. I have a full set of Heroes and Monster and the Bestiary Box, but I'm always looking for cool minis to place on the table to liven up the combat. I'd love to give a second chance for even hand-me-down figures, if you've got those lying around

- I'm a sucker for all manner of movies, and I'm constantly updating my DVD collection. Particular films I've hunted unsuccessfully are Shaun of The Dead, The Great Escape, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Back to The Future II & III, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Great Dictator and Road Trip. The problem with these is that they have to be Region 2.
- Music, particularly Irish trad and movie soundtracks - the latter of which are pretty much a non-entity in Finnish music stores for some odd reason.
- Anything history-related when it comes to books. I've a particular fondness for the Middle Ages, but other than that I tend to pick up and read whatever catches my interest, ranging from US History to WWII.

If I can think of something else, I'll let you know

But consider these as mere suggestions; I'm pretty much open to anything that is fun and interesting. The only ixnay I'll put is for alcoholics and foodstuffs; those tend to suffer in transit, and some of the mail rules are quite hard on such things. Also, please no eye-burning NSFW stuff like yaoi hentai or things of that nature

Okay, here's some gift advice for me... I apologize to whomever got me and got a big blank note (I had something typed up but I obviously screwed it up somehow).

I like books, I don't get a lot of time to read but I really enjoy science fiction (Dune, Foundation series, War of the worlds, etc.) and I love fantasy (LOTR, The Hobbit, Wheel of Time, Chronicles of Narnia, Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance novels, etc.). Specifically I have been looking to start reading the Discworld series by Terry Pratchet and the Dark Tower series by Stephen King.

I like movies a lot too, my favorites being The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars, Terminator 2 and Aliens. I've been looking to round out my blu-ray collection with titles like Captain America: the first Avenger, Iron Man, The 7 Samurai and Alien. Cool movie posters are also fun as I'm looking to hang a few up in my home theatre room. Alien 3 and Ressurection NEVER HAPPENED. Do not send these... please... pretty please.

Computer games are fun and there's a couple titles like Orcs must Die 2 that I've been interested in trying but haven't had the opportunity to yet. If you're interested in this route you can probably check out my steam profile somehow to see what games I have. My username is Azurephoenix.

I love Mass Effect so if you're the artsy type something along those lines would be super kickass (I played a Paragon soldier with Ashley as my love interest).

Ummm... I absolutely love rum if you're into sending something like that though you would have to look into the legalities of such. I know I've sent alcohol around Canada before but over the border probably isn't the best idea.

Not sure what else to say... the rest of my hobbies involve quickly rising costs so I think I will leave it there. At the very least it provides some ideas.

And if you're Jay and you sent me socks they better be for size 12 feet you bastard!

I'm down for pretty much anything.

I've really been into Warhammer 40k lately, but most of the things pertaining to that are beyond the $5-$20 limit. Some small paint brushes would be great. Hobby Lobby has some decent ones that are put out by Vallejo, which also puts out some paints as well. I'm pretty set on reds, yellows, blues, black, white, and grays, but other colors are good.

My wife and I recently had a daughter who just hit the 7 week mark. We have plenty of 0-3 clothes, but around the 6 month mark, we don't have as much. Cute baby stuff would work.

A starbucks gift card would be great for my wife. I'm totally willing to work as a passthrough so that she can get a gift. If you'd rather send it to her, her name is Teresa Aldaco.

Unfortunately, my hobbies (guitar, photography, and 40k) are expensive, so it's hard for me to come up with a good list of Secret Santa/Stocking Stuffer type stuff.

I'm sorry if the list isn't all that great. I wish I could think of more.

Yeah, sorry, I've been absent here for a while, and haven't been sharing much :-P

But actually, I don't know very well myself. Only participated once, and though I don't remember who sent it, I liked the gift - and it surprised me, as it wasn't something I'd have thought of myself.
Still. Erm, I like to read, mostly fantasy and science fiction-y things. I read in English by preference. My favourite authors are probably Heinlein and Pratchett, but I own everything Heinlein wrote and most of Pratchett's. I'm still missing some of the "extra" books (the cookbook, the kid's book, that sort of thing) based off of Discworld, though.
I like good TV shows, but I tend to buy box sets with full series, and those usually fall outside of the price range. Still, if there's a relatively short series with a box in the limit, I'm always interested in exploring new things to like. I liked Deadwood, Band of Brothers, Rome, Babylon 5, the West Wing... I dunno.
Also, I like owls, but you might've guessed :-P

Lastly, Dave, I didn't get an alert for being paged in this thread. I don't know if it was because I simply didn't visit too long or something? Just thoughht I'd mention it.

That's a fair question. Most of the models are pretty expensive...at least for the typical budget of this thing.

I'd really like a Maulerfiend/Forgefiend box, but that's pretty pricey. Otherwise, I can always use more paint for painting up vehicles, buildings, etc. I can do up a list of colors that I'd like. I'll look into what my needs are in both areas and post here tomorrow night.

Star Trek TNG/Doctor Who Assimilation Squared TPB! I had seen this was coming out, but hadn't read any of it! I'm looking forward to seeing what it's about.

Excellent choices. I've been needing a good pair of scissors. Currently all I have are some small child sized pairs, and a set that are mostly plastic that I've had since the 3rd grade. They cut paper okay, but they're getting kind of brittle so I wouldn't trust them to cut anything sturdy.

I'm also looking foward to more Christmas music.

You need to spend a feat on advanced kitchenry. Not only will this allow you to dual wield spatulas, it will also allow you to wield hand mixers in one hand without the inherent -1 penalty for doing so.

As soon the mail carrier asked me to sign for something, I knew my package arrived.

So, what was inside? An amazing assortment of gifts!

First, I couldn't resist the call of that wooden box. Here's what was inside:

According to the note that accompanied the package, it's an ornate pencil holder. You can see the small dragon mural embedded into the sides. Fantastic!

Next up, I unraveled the wooden scroll. Here's the panoramic view of the whole thing (it's rather long!)

There was also the portrait of my name. According to the note, it was drawn in Shanghai's Yuyuan Garden, done in traditional Chinese styles.

Next, I unrolled the three scrolls. A winter scene, a dragon, and a portrait of Wang Zhou Jun (a famous consort from Chinese history):

I ordered them weeks ago and they said they shipped out to me shortly after, and I paid for expedited shipping, but I've seen nothing about them. Even the tracking number that I did get isn't functioning. But when they do arrive I'll make sure they get to you.

Funny. I only sent out the replacement stuff Friday and you already have it as opposed to the original gifts that have a two week head start on them to get to me.

There was also the portrait of my name. According to the note, it was drawn in Shanghai's Yuyuan Garden, done in traditional Chinese styles.

Next, I unrolled the three scrolls. A winter scene, a dragon, and a portrait of Wang Zhou Jun (a famous consort from Chinese history):

I admit, when I first saw it I was a little worried. The outside box had seen better days... it was battered all to hell. The thing looked like it came from a war zone. But you (or whomever) did the packaging perfectly so nothing was damaged on the inside.

After a hard day of work, I come home to....A PACKAGE!!

With that I got a little overly excited and attacked the box like it kicked my puppy.

I opened it...OH JOY!!

Giant bubble wrap with monkeys on it! Just what I wanted!

But wait! There's more! A Tyrion Lannister bobble head?!? (I think it's actual size!)

And...fuzzy feet? What? Oh! They are HOBBIT SLIPPERS! *whew* For a moment I thought I was back at elementary school with the Neanderthal brothers!

And, of course, the Monkey sticker...which my wife called dibs on.

Last, me with my booty by the back door in the kitchen. I probably should have moved the towels we use to wipe off the dogs when they come in all wet and muddy, but I just had to wear the slippers for a picture. They compliment my work clothes wonderfully!

Also a nice poster of the Avengers which is going to be framed and put on the wall of my home theatre room (pictures of that will come once it's on the wall)
