Krisken's art stuff, previously all 40k miniatures

I have some of the Warzone models on the way. From the looks of it, I got one of the last batches of Buy it Now. I included a link in the article on the HittingOn3s website about the Warzone and Mantic models, along with credit to you for telling me about them. I'm TEMPTED to pick up the Mantic models, but need to wait a little before doing so. I have the 80 Warzone models on the way and 60 cultists, so that should get me taken care of. I suppose if I ordered the 60 zombies, that'd put me at 200 models, very close to the max number I can run in a less than 2k point game.

Looks like I'm going to need more of the bases that I'm using.[DOUBLEPOST=1351740867][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, for people who don't follow me on Twitter, or don't want to dig through my tweets, here's a photo comparing a Bag O' Zombies zombie on a 25mm to a cultist and space marine. Not a HUGE difference, but enough for some players to make a stink.

Yeah, that's why I went with the Mantic ones in the end as opposed to the bag o zombies. They were just too small for me. What I'll probably do is cut them to pieces and use them for body parts in bases and such.

What I'm figuring on doing is running 35 cultists with Typhus and alternating between them and Zombies depending on what I like. I'm still stuck on wanting to run mostly Daemons, and now that Grinders are getting the 5++ I can see spending the 165 points on a Grinder with Phlegm for anti horde.

Wow, so I've been assembling a Ghost Ark for the better part of 3 hours. Between shaving down the mold lines and everything else, this thing is by far the most time consuming of any of the models I've done. I assembled 32 warriors and 10 immortals in less time. When I read that some Necron lists have 3 or 4 of the damn things, I shudder.

That sounds horrible, Frank. I'm glad I've been staying away from vehicles! (haha, Daemons don't use vehicles, silly Krisken!)

Anywho, just got word my Zombie Corp models shipped. Yay! 80 Zombies on their way. Sadly, I've only assembled 8 of the cultist guys so far, so I have a LONG way to go if I want to get 35 of them ready for swapping.

Frank, those Arks are nasty, especially if you magnetize them so that you can turn them into Doomsday Arks as well . However, Necrons are such a good army right now, it's worth the effort. They are going to be a dominant codex for a while, barring any odd FAQs.

If anything, I'm going to run two or three units of Zombies/Cultists in higher points game. I hate moving that many models. I'm actually thinking about a Chosen list with Abaddon leading. I'm going to try a few different lists, but as it is, I'm REALLY leaning towards an Nurgle list lead by Typhus and Epidemius with Typhus wrecking some cultists to get Epidemius' ability up and running. I might even sell off a good portion of my Grey Knights to fund the Chaos Daemons side, or buy some for Christmas.

GW has been working on their plastic vehicle kits to make them harder to customize with magnets. Apparently the Helldrake and Forgefiend models are a BITCH to modify with magnets.

Ok, I know I said I was going to put Typhus in the unit, but I'm thinking to switching to Ahriman. Having him and a unit of 30 cultists behind a Aegis Defense Line might be a fantastic place to sling spells from.

If you switch to Ahriman, you could infiltrate the following:

1: Cultists to shoot and charge, posing an immediate threat, especially with MoK for 4 attacks on the charge from any that survive long enough to do so...5 for the cultist champ.
2: Raptors (jump infantry are still considered to be infantry) to charge on your first turn, if you go second, as the restriction on assaulting out of a scout or infiltrate move is only limited to the first turn...player turn.
3: Terminators in a Land Raider. Go second, move up 6", disembark 6", shoot, assault 2D6 since it's an assault vehicle
4: A unit of Obliterators for some immediate attention and devastation, depending on whether or not you attack vehicles or infantry. Three assault cannons on turn one can be REALLY nasty, as can three multi-meltas or lascannons. If you MoN them, they will be that much harder to double out, or a MoT to give them 50% survivability from AP2.

I can't wait to run Ahriman or Huron Blackheart. If I've come up with those four on my own, I can only imagine what someone with a more strategic mind can come up with.

Thing is, my points are mostly in Daemons, and I don't really want to change that. If I were to put MoK on the cultists, I couldn't put Ahriman in the same unit as they have a different mark than he does.

I want Ahriman for being a lvl 4 Psyker and having access to Telepathy (Invisibility, Terrify, and Puppet Master are all great psychic powers) and the cultists are there to basically act as a meat shield. The meat and potatoes of the army is definitely the Daemons.

Sorry about that, Krisken. I was speaking in more general terms and should have clarified that. Just ideas of what one can do with Ahriman, or Huron Blackheart,.

Hey, it's cool man. Someone on another forum suggested it's best to have the cultists and Ahriman running all over to be sure to cast the blessings and maledictions since they happen before the movement phase and positioning is so important. I may alter my original plan yet.

So, on a whim, I picked up the Forgeworld Horus Heresy book.

It's pretty much the best looking and most spectacular looking Warhammer book out there for sure. It's so loaded with neat 30K era fluff and stats and stories. I can never imagine it every getting use as a game book, but as a book in my bookshelf I will gladly pull it out every now and then and read through more of the goodies inside. It's pretty big at 300 pages and a slightly larger profile than normal 40K stuff. It came at a price though of like 120 bucks after shipping and conversion of currency.

Interesting. I'll have to look at that.

I got my warzone minis in. I have to admit being a little disappointed in the quality. The detail isn't all that great and the plastic looks and feels cheap. Then again, I suppose at $.50 a model, I shouldn't be looking for high quality. Of course, that won't stop me from using them as Cultists.

I won't ever take GW's plastic for granted again.

I didn't think the quality was too bad on the Warzone minis. As you say, though, it's super cheap stuff. Right now I'm only using one pistol wielding guy and 19 of the rifle guys. I tend to not care much how the plastic looks or feels, tbh. Being a harder plastic actually benefits me as I don't accidentally clip something important off because the plastic is too soft.

If I was worried about modifying them, though, yeah, the GW plastic would be a definite plus.

And wow, I have a lot to do. I estimate I have to make another 25 bases 25mm bases, 20 cultists to paint (just finished priming them), make another 14 Screamers, and rebase the Blue Scribes/ 10 Horrors/ 20 Flamers. Lots of work to do!

So are plague marines any good still or did they get beaten with the nerf bat? How about Nurgle Terminators?

Methinks my chaos army is going to need serious modifications with the new rules (or course... I need to find time to play before any of this means anything lol).

I think Nurgle Terminators are a bit expensive, sadly. They're tough, but you're really paying for it. Plague Marines are still good, they're just overshadowed right now by the ability for characters to give Fearless to the entire unit. Using Cultists as a 4 point extra wound is amazing for Sorcerers and tends to help a lot.

I always wanted to put together a few squads of the forgeworld nurgle terminators. Sounds like my plague marines will stay as is and be supplemented by some meat shields.

Just picked up some Privateer Press stuff to use for a melee cultist unit. Can't even remember what they were called, but they should make for some nice "affluent" cultists from a richer part of the hive. Some Bloodrunners from Hordes and Warmachine Dawnguard Sentinels.

I've finished making (yes, making) the last of the custom Screamers I will use. I'm only using 2 units of 9 since people seem to hate them so much and I want to keep friends :)

Yes. There are 3 levels of allies. Chaos Space Marines and Daemons are 'battle brothers'. An ally detachment must have 1 HQ and 1 Troop choice from the allying army, may take up to 1 HQ, 1 Troop, 1 Fast, 1 Elite, and 1 Heavy choice from the allying codex.

Cool, good to know. I'll eventually be getting the new 6th edition rules and start collecting the new codexes (yet again). Just wanted some early heads up on what I can and can't do.

Absolutely Azurephoenix! I'm by no means an expert, but I do know a thing or two.

Haven't done a whole lot lately as far as hobby goes. The Screamers are all made (the 18) and base painted, as well as custom bases which still need to be primed/painted/etc.

I... I made a mistake and ventured into my FLGS, just on the pretext of visiting with friends.

I looked at the new codex and rulebook.

I.... I'm clean, I swear.... I just don't know if I can STAY that way... *whimpers*

I really wish they would sell the mini-rulebook so I don't have to buy the monstrous sized one.

What are some of the big changes in 6th edition anyways? I've been seriously out of the loop for a while now.

Area cover saves are 5+ now and not 4+
The introduction of fliers
Premeasuring is allowed at any time
Random charge lengths
Psychic powers available in the book
Vehicles have 'hull points', which are removed with glancing and penetrating shots.
Only penetrating shots on vehicles roll on the vehicle damage chart

There's a lot more, though. Those are the ones that stick out in my mind at the moment.

Oh, shit, forgot Overwatch.

When a unit is charged, it can 'snap fire', requiring 6's to hit the unit charging it. Roll to wound as normal.

And flame templates laugh at snap shots.[DOUBLEPOST=1353772011][/DOUBLEPOST]

Now what did you want to play? The Dark Vengeance models are pretty incredible, and make fantastic additions to a standing army. I don't play Dark Angels, but the iconography fits the original chapter I'm creating, which I'm calling the Steel Wings.

Cultist pieces make great battlefield casualties for terrain building, too, if you're playing something else. You could just sell the sprues, too.

The problem is I'm a long time veteran with multiple armies (Chaos, Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Dark Eldar) and small amounts of models from most other races. I have been collecting the rulebooks and codexes since second edition. I really REALLY would just like to buy the small rulebook and not have to get more models... but that's not how games workshop operates. I'll probably end up getting one off of ebay.

eBay is the way to go for picking up the small rulebook.

I thoroughly enjoy 6th edition, even if it wrecked my heavy-mech approach. With the new Chaos codex and my mom staying with us on a permanent basis, I'll be able to get more games in.

I'm currently 0-2 with the new Chaos Space Marines, but it's partially because I'm just building themed lists and not really putting together a well rounded list. I want to try out new units more than I want to win.

I'm putting my space marines away for a while and finishing up my tyranid army so i'm sure I'll be losing tons of games lol.

Yeah, I'll definitely have to ebay one of those little rulebooks because there's no way I'm paying what they're asking for the big one.
