I'll check it out. Still miffed about not getting in the beta though. It's Star Trek
Yes and no. During times of non-war, most Federation ships are built for science, exploration, medical transport, etc. Until DS9 got the Defiant and Voyager's introduction of the Intrepid class, there weren't really any "war" ships, or ships designed to go into combat specifically. Even when Voyager was ending, the Federation was still cranking out war ships, i.e. the Prometheus class. There was no major war going on in the TNG timeline so all the ship we saw were peaceful ships, whom just had the default load of X phaser banks and Y torpedo tubes. So is a wartime? In the shows, the Federation ships are so lightly armed in order to foster an image of peaceful exploration, right?
Is there an endgame?Beta ends tonight and I've already lost all desire to play. I was pushing through the levels to get my next ship, but now that I know I won't be able to get another, I just can't find the energy to play anymore.

Everquest was pretty bad about charging for content updates too. There were what, like 12 expansions? It's not a new thing.Honestly Seeing the way Cryptic has been handling CO, I'd be wary of giving them any money. If the double dipping in CO isn't bad enough (having a monthly fee AND a cash shop!) they've recently announced that they'll be charging players for an "expansion" that in any other MMO would be a free content update (1 new zone basically). In comparison, in one month past launch LOTRO also gave its player's a massive zone added to the game too, except you know, for free. Really Cryptic, how greedy can you get?
Will these poor business practices carry over to STO... time will tell I suppose.
Also whats the deal with MMOs calling any old content updates "expansions" these days anyways? Who do they think they're fooling?
I think that might be the case. I actually love it. I did try a little PvP last night (Federation vs Klingons) it was pretty awesome. I did the ground arena fight and space "control" resources. It was pretty cool.Ok, it picks up a bit, but I'd still only pick it up if you were a hardcore Star Trek fan.
umm.. no?Anyone else see the lovely irony behind a Star Trek MMO?

Paying to play certain races. Real classy Cryptic. Way to nickel and dime your players for all they're worth.mmorpg.com said:MMORPG.com: Star Trek Online will require a subscription fee to play, but also gives players access to the Cryptic Store. What items are offered in the store and how does it affect gameplay?
STO Team:It's fairly limited right now. It will include the Ferengi and Klingon races to be playable for the Federation side at launch. We want to get an idea of what players want before adding much more. But we're sticking to the notion that if it affects gameplay, there will be ways of attaining whatever is available in the store in-game.
Yea. I'm kinda half and half on this (getting the races) but it seems that the U.S. is trying to MicroPayment + monthly instead of doing what Asia MMO are popular with which is free to play and micro.Well looks like STO is going the same money grubbing route as CO...

Actually City of Villains initially was a charged update UNTIL JACK LEFT, but it is now free, Going Rogue which is expected sometime this year is going to be charged as well, but I doubt it will stay that way.So, basically, they did a 180 from what they were doing with CoH, where almost every content release was free.

I agree. Of course I guess Cryptic could have bundle it to say a full expansion (more space and TWO new playable race) for 49.95$ instead of less than 4.5$ (500 cryptic points for 6.25$)Well looks like STO is going the same money grubbing route as CO...
Cash shops are fine in a F2P game, I mean the company has to make money somehow, but this double-dipping of subscription fees plus cash shop is what I just can't stand and Cryptic seems to be the main culprit doing this. I mean, for some premium services it doesn't bother me, like name/server/faction changes, but buying access to new races... come on.mmorpg.com said:MMORPG.com: Star Trek Online will require a subscription fee to play, but also gives players access to the Cryptic Store. That's actually the best CAD strip I've seen in years.

Matrix Online was not as good as I hoped It was kinda fun and animation was pretty but.... it lacked something I can't put my finger on.

Did it feel a little... draining?Matrix Online was not as good as I hoped It was kinda fun and animation was pretty but.... it lacked something I can't put my finger on.
We had a 4 day head start and get to keep that (started on Jan 29th) I like it. I don't think the tutorial is "lame" ass. It is informative to get people going and help them start on their way. Sure for us Beta players, we already did it, so I guess they are hoping we can skip it.So for those of you who own it. How is it compared to the beta? Were your stats reset when you transitioned over to the 'finished' game?
I've heard a lot of people complaining how lame ass the tutorial is. I still want to get the game, but seeing as how there isn't a 14 day free trial yet; I don't know.
And with regards to CAD I've found him to be getting better. His daily sillies are better than his main comic though with the humor aspect. The Star Trek comic
was indeed funny.
