I jumped off the show LONG ago. Don't know which season, but the one with The Thinker. I think I made it to the mid-season break and never looked back. The show's writing is often atrocious and their overreliance on evil speedsters killed it for me.

Aa a big Flash fan, what disappointed me the most is they barely touched his great gallery of villains. The Rogues don't exist as a group in this and that's a huge missed opportunity. Captain Cold waa quickly forgotten. Heatwave joined the Legends. Trickster appeared early in and then forgotten. Apparently Mirror Master appeared somehow but it was all about evil mirror doubles or something? Blech.

I've seen some clips here and there and now there's some kind of different elements they draw their powers from? The crap with Reverse Flash at the end looked awful, like a bad version of Power Rangers.

To me, it's just a show of constant squandered opportunities and bad writing.

The Flash was renewed for season 9, when they've obviously run out of ideas, but Legends was cancelled when not only did they still have more (interesting and fun) stories to tell, but they'd just introduced Booster Gold in the last episode.

Yes, I'm still bitter about Legends being cancelled. :cry:

Finally got around to watching Season 3 of The Boys. It was really good, as both previous seasons were, but I just don't know if I have the psychological resilience to continue with it, given how there's barely any veil left to speak of on the political satire, and it's becoming less satirical and more of a "holy shit this is happening right now in real life" barely-even-a-metaphor.

I hate living in historically relevant times.

Wheel of Time, season 1 (Amazon Prime)
I genuinely liked this... for the first 3 or 4 episodes.
Then it just felt incredibly rushed with some very strange character choices. And the last episode, and possibly the last 2 just left with an overall feeling of 'huh? that makes no sense.'
I still love to costuming, and I desperately want to like this series even a fraction as much as I enjoyed the books (overall, I fully acknowledge that some of those middle volumes were, well, middling at best). If there's a second season I'll give it a shot, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Great, seasons 1 & 2 (Amazon Prime)
Great costumes, ridiculous overblown plot and characters. Surprisingly funny and occasionally poignant. Better with vodka.

Locke and Key, season 1 (Netflix)
A series I wanted to like, and just couldn't get in to. The kid characters got better (I think?) as the season went on. I like the core key mechanic, and I think it has some neat potential, but I just couldn't get myself to care about what what happening on screen.
It's filmed here in NS though, and the scenery is great.

Shadow and Bone, season 1 (Netflix)
This, this I liked. It's silly and fluffy, and takes itself very seriously, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the world and how it's built, I enjoyed the characters and only occasionally got them mixed up early on, and while the saviour-of-the-world premise is overdone, I still want to see where this one goes.
Also, nice costuming. The embroidery on the magic-users coats is beautiful and I want one.


Next: finishing all the seasons of Vikings (Netflix), season 3 of American Gods (Amazon Prime), and probably Outlander (Netflix).

You know, I had the same reaction. I had glanced at the comic over the years, and I thought I'd really love the series, especially since I think some people on here had given it a thumbs-up. But I still haven't finished the first season, and I just can't bring myself to do it.

Sadly, there were many idiots who only realized on THIS season, "Wait, Homelander is the bad guy? But he's awesome!" So I think they need to just burn the veil and to Hell with any subtlety.

COVID interrupted the conclusion of filming as did one of the main actors leaving. They had to pivot hard to bring it all to a close, much to the chagrin of the fans of the book series (I've never read it). Season 2 is done filming (I think?) and has already been renewed for a season 3.

I basically hate watched the whole season of WoT S1, and after the last episode I don't know if I can manage to even look at the second season.

Watched it and liked the world, the characters, the story. Told the wife and we watched it together, fell in love with it. Another full rewatch already happened, and some parts got checked repeatedly. Wife by now can tell you what the Grisha are up to or what kind they are by the way they hold their hands. Of course she loves the costumes and I bet it's only a matter of time until she starts sewing and embroidering her own Khefta.
We both can't wait for season 2.

I just finished Season 3. Wait, people didn't understand that Homelander is basically Donald Trump? That's been so obvious since like season 1 with his obsession with being coddled by Stillwater. I thought they hit blatant telling mode when Homelander was literally banging a Nazi.

Homelander being handsome* and able to speak in complete sentences probably threw them off.


(*Well, the actor is handsome. I find Homelander repugnant, but behind-the-scene photos and videos of Anthony Starr being a normal human being make him a lot more attractive.)

I first saw Anthony Starr in Banshee, and he's so completely different as Homelander that I did not recognize him, and almost couldn't believe it was the same person.

I gotta say Anthony Starr is Jack Gleeson level of amazing acting. He's absolutely brilliant at changing facial expressions on the fly that make Homelander absolutely terrifying. You never know when Homelander is going to snap or introduce some form of pychological torture, or

You can see whole internal monologues flash across his face in seconds. It's like "Homelander's brain has rolled a 20-sided die; let's see where it lands!". An excellent bit of casting with his character. You really need someone who can give it depth, because on paper, it's such a shitty character.

I fucking love Only Murders in The Building, I'm taking my time with the second season so I can enjoy it's delicious dialogs.

I searched the thread for "The Bear" and got no results, so I gotta say WATCH THE BEAR!

First season finished a few weeks ago and I think it's my favorite first season of TV in a long while.

Also, "The Offer", a mini-series about the making of The Godfatehr is just *chef's kiss*

If you like The Godfather, be it the book or the movie, you have to watch The Offer.

...is Crazy Ex Girlfriend a BAD show, or is each season just way too long? I feel the logic was that the musical numbers plus the sitcom plots would add up, but this could easily just be a regular Sitcom rather than a prestige format show.

Also Scott cheating on Paula was more telegraphed than a Kamen Rider stage show, fuck.

Disney + Light and Magic. It goes through the history of ILM. Very well made. I'll likely watch the episodes about ep. IV and V several times.

It really is, isn't it? In a just world it would be appointment TV.

The only "valid" criticism I've seen of The Bear is from Chicago natives complaining it's written by people who aren't from Chicago trying to make it very Chicagoey (sic) and failing. Oh and from people from real kitchens saying they get real PTSD from it, heh.

Apart from that, I think it's among the best first TV seasons in a good long while, if not ever.

So... two episodes into The Sandman and quite enjoying it.

They haven't quite got the Corinthian's eyes right. I think it is because they are using the actor's mouth as reference.

Trainwreck - Woodstock '99

A tree part documentary about the infamous Woodstock '99 festival. Every episode is about one day of the three days that started as a revival of the original (well, not really they tried it already in '94) and then turned into a clusterfuck very fast.
I really like it. It's amazing how tone deaf those in charge are even today.

I ended up binge-watching Sandman over 2 days. I quite enjoyed it, though I figured out the exact way it would end a few episodes before the end.

Did a binge over the weekend.

Sandman - Season 1 - Finished the rest of the season. Like I'd said above, I have no knowledge of the source so can't speak to how close it stays, but my only complaint with the show was that there is only 1 season so far. As soon as it ended I was hungry for more. I loved the cinematography, the cast is amazing. Just beautifully done.

Barry - Season 3 -
Major consequences finally. Interesting to see Sally get her show finally, lose it and then absolutely lose it. Curious to see where she goes from here, especially after the final scene. Personally, I expect her to be going to Joplin to kill Sam. The motorcycle chase was a massive achievement. So well done.

Our Flag Means Death - Season 1 - So much heart here, and similar to Sandman, where is season 2 already. Have loved Taika since What We Do in the Shadows and Rhys since Flight of the Concords. Also Con O'Neill is rapidly becoming a favourite actor and doesn't disappoint as Izzy Hands.

I still haven't finished the first season, but he is definitely part of the draw.
The entire thing is Princess Bride-levels of absurdity (and beyond!), but it still tells an actual story and makes sense within its universe's own (ridiculous) rules.
