The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

@HCGLNS totally missed the Pink Floyd Wall reference.
No, I got it instantly. This however was not a Pink Floyd reference, but rather a reference to a previous time that Emrys made that specific Pink Floyd reference to my posting about pudding. Do try to keep up Ronald.

Well that sucks but getting half back is still ok i guess.
And if they're happy in their new homes, I'm not going to traumatize them by moving them back. Six, and possibly eight, will cause enough thundering patter of little paws.

Does anyone else here write software as part of their job? I have been searching for a bug in some of my code for more than a month, and I just found it. I will actually sleep tonight.

This code is thousands of lines, and runs on a cluster, running computation jobs sometimes for days or weeks, so it's not exactly easy to debug. All your usual debugging tools like gdb or valgrind don't work so well in a multiprocess environment, especially when running under a resource manager (which fairly parses out cluster resources).

Keep this in mind when you want to know why your favorite software company can't "just" fix bug X. This turned out to be a simple one-line oversight on my part which no debugger would've caught anyway, because I out-clevered myself.[DOUBLEPOST=1434572635,1434572574][/DOUBLEPOST]Also for the record, bugs almost always seem to come down to one dumb line. And it's usually about 3 miles from where the bug manifests.

As a software developer, "just" is the worst word there is. Thankfully my boss is a programmer so he's reasonable but some customers...

Today. All of it. Only downer was having to conserve battery life at the Transit Museum so I'd have power enough to get the proper route back to the hotel when I left.

Did you know they actually have this new sort of thing that doesn't use batteries, you can fold it up and squeeze it and crumple it, and it'll STILL tell you how to go to find the way home? It's called a map :p

(but I'm glad you had a good day) :)

TIL one should switch to airplane mode when in the subway, so the phone won't go into overdrive trying to find a signal that isn't there.

Also a great way to get a phone to charge faster, plug in, place in airplane mode and it will charge about twice as fast.

Another big drain... posting the pics I've been taking around the city to instagram right away. Notifications of likes are death to the battery. :p
