Well. I feel old. I just saw a picture of my kindergarten teacher on FB, and she is old and gray. We were her first class out of school. She is with her son, who I held when he was a newborn, when I was a senior in high school. He is now a grown man with facial hair. WTF time?
Just FYI: Not dead. Moved on sunday and still haven't gotten the internet isntalled. they were supposed to come on Tuesday and they never did so they rescheduled me for Thursday, and then never came. Right now I'm visiting the family so I got the net again temporarily

Considering what the IRC folks get up to sometimes, they kinda deserve it.
Basically, there's been a couple of sub groups popping up all over the forums, all of which are bitching about each other in PMs, off-site, and/or in the IRC channel. They all believe that certain people need to go "for the benefit of the forum", which usually means the people of the other groups.
Everyone thinks Dave and the mods are being influenced by the other groups, which has recently hit critical mass since Chaz was banned.
Personally, I'm just kinda fed up with all the conspiratorial vibes, hence the comment. I may not have liked it when Chaz went on an asshole bender, but at least he was doing it where we could all see it.

I spent a lot of time in IRC back when work was slower. There are definitely board people who get talked about there. I'd never heard of calling for someone's banning, but certain board members have been named unfavorably.
But most of the time, it's idle-rama interspersed with random inanity and the occasional netsplit.

It's a public channel. No one except one idiot kid has been permabanned AFAIK (and it's not Chaz).

Well, I meant calling for banning from the forum. I know there have been bannings of forum users from the channel... heck I can think of 3 off the top of my head, though the bans may not be in force any more. And I don't want to encourage drama.
Gas is right. It would be untrue to say that we never complain about somebody on the forum or something that may be happening on the forum but we've never plotted to get anyone banned. I think some of the misconceptions may be coming from the fact that the IRC group does tend to be tight-knit and the vast majority of the forum has never visited the channel. As a moderator of the IRC channel, I encourage anybody who is curious about it to join us and visit.

The only one I can speak for was Roxxoredizorz, who I perma-banned for being a racist idiot who was also abusing name changes to deliberately provoke users who had him on ignore.

Well IRC has been around for a while. There have been some bans but the annoying kid is the one I remember. Most are temp bans or just kicks.
That ban extends to the #halforums channel... which doesn't amount to much since I wind up as the only occupant to make sure the channel stays in forum hands.
