Makes me think of that cop on The Simpsons... "Hey chief, can I hold my gun like this? *tilts it sideways* It's so cool.
I enjoyed this episode. My dad asked if he could watch with me. He seemed to like it too. This might become one of our bonding things... zombies, who knew?
I had a feeling keeping Shane around longer than in the comics would lead to some interesting changes. I like it, honestly. In almost every zombie movie, you've got the madman (like Meryl early on) who does unthinkable things. Shane's a very different character from any of that. He does many unthinkable things, but he's still not only a necessary part of the group, but keeps almost all of his insanity hidden away. Dale's on to him and can't do a damn thing about it, just like Shane said right to his face. Fascinating stuff.
Plus, we got more deadheads this episode than in the last few. I don't mind the lack of walkers like others have minded. The zombie genre has always been about how humans deal with having to live and survive in that kind of world, with clashing ideas like Herschel. Fortunately, even if an episode is shy on zombies, they usually give us at least one interesting deadhead that makes it worth it. This week was the nearly decapitated walker. Or it was the stomach search Darryl and Rick did. Or the zombie in the well. There's still just enough to remind us what kinda world they're living in.
Also, I have to say that the pace in this episode (and last week's as well) is much improved from earlier episodes. I think they're starting to fall into a good groove now.
At first I read this as "Sophia's mom seems to be more interested in Daryl's cock than her daughter is interested in Daryl's cock" and I was horrified.
Then I read it again and laughed at how silly that thought is.

It could have gone either direction really. I gotta say, that was borderline cinematic the way she exited the barn - really wrenched my gut seeing it. I... I actually gave a damn about her and was hoping she was ok...
This episode pretty much tells all the haters to get the fuck out. In retrospective, all the sluggish episodes leading up to this one are totally redeemed by it. What it tells me is that an episode to episode synopsis of Walking Dead is not necessarily the best way to critique the show. More like season to season.
So far season 2 is really at the same level as season 1.
That entire scene was full of adrenaline and power. Shane tearing down the door, forcing the group to act. Herschel collapsing in shock, the reaction of the group to having finally found Sofia.
I for one am happy the missing girl's storyline is done.... but damn... Hershal is a fucken douche. Everything Shane did was validated right then and there. However, kindly note that Rick did the hard call. No one else wanted to kill her.... he went in... and did what a LEADER was supposed to do.
I hate spoiler tagging anything unless it's going to pop up in a thread that's not related to the spoiler. Why on Earth would you check this thread out without watching the most recent episode? Same goes for movie threads. Once the release date comes and goes, it's up to the person whether they want to enter the thread or not. Especially since what should be spoiler tagged is subjective to begin with.
Anyways, I'm glad they went with a more realistic version of how events would unfold. Often times people cling to hope despite it hardly being there, and then get the last kick in the teeth when the truth of the situation comes crashing down. The scene was a well fitted ending to the 1/2 season.
I'm on the same side as Sheg and Mathias: the thread is 16 pages, now. If you check on the thread now, when a new episode airs, it's your own fault if you read the spoilers. I said the same thing in the Doctor Who thread, which is why I didn't bother with spoiler tags there, either. If it relates to the comic, I'll respect that, but for a newly aired episodes? Enter at your own risk.
That said?
Damn good episode. Seeing Sophia at the end just broke my heart. It was ironic given that the group totally slaughtered the barn walkers with Herschal looking on horrified. To be honest, I liked the way it was done here rather than the comic. Since the events have now passed, I don't think spoiler tags are needed here: Basically, the walkers break through on their own when they're trying to corral the new ones in. Herschal actually joined in the shooting. With this episode, though, Herschal remains the same and it's Shane's building frustrations that come to a head.
There's two things that I find are adding some really different strands into show compared to the comic. Daryl doesn't even exist in the comic and he's become not only a great addition to the show, but one of the best characters. As for the other...okay, now I'll spoiler tag, since I want to discuss some pretty significant comic spoilers:
Keeping Shane alive has probably been the best damn thing the show-runners have done. He adds so much drama/tension to the group whereas most tension among the group in the comic is from new characters they meet up with along the way. Plus, I am loving the tension between Shane and Dale. I think their tension is so much interesting than Shane and Rick. I think it's because they're so drastically different from each other.
