Video Game News and Miscellany

Ok, Titanfall is a fun game. It's well made and runs smooth. That's because it's designed for low spec stuff and genuinely goes for performance over high end visual quality. This is a fact. The textures are definitely not impressive. Any gaming rig from the last 5 years can run this game 60+ frames easy and that's good. That's what should be important in a multiplayer shooter.

So what God damn excuse is it that the game requires a 50 gig install?

Probably redundant levels of textures that your machine isn't using.

Well, I considered dropping South Park: The Stick of Truth until there's a lower price, but my wife wants it now, so who can guess where this is going?

For both my Skyrim playthroughs so far, my wife's been at my side during character creation, telling me what sort of character I should create. I wanted to play as an Argonian but she said no, the lizards are ugly, play as a human instead. Then she had me cycle through all possible combinations of hairstyle and facial features, until she settled on one she felt was acceptable.

I was all like, "Woman, I will be wearing a helmet for almost the entire game, my hair will not be visible!"

I actually let my wife make all my characters in any customizable character game. She'll sit at the computer and just come up with all kinds of different looks. Skyrim, FFXIV, WoW, etc. All my characters are her ideas/creations.

I'm kinda wondering what'll happen when I fire up Saints Row 3 again. The character customization in there is tons of fun.

Uh oh:

from Kotaku's review:
I wish I could spend this entire review talking about how South Park: The Stick of Truth is one of the funniest games I've ever played.
But Stick of Truth, out Tuesday for 360, PS3, and PC, is a game marred by bugs and technical issues, and it is impossible to separate the art from the faulty product surrounding it.
They gave it a "NOT YET".

Sounds like all the issues may be fixable by patches but… guess we will see. Glad I'm not dropping 60 bucks on a buggy game.

Been playing it for 3 hours now on PC without a single glitch. Apparently it's a console thing the bugs.

Thus far: Do you like South Park? That's the first thing that should tell you if you want to play this. Second, do you like Super Mario RPG/Mario Luigi RPG games? It plays like those. I'm REALLY, REALLY liking it so far. I've yet to touch the main quest, I've been booting around town stealing and smashing everything.

Yeah, the PC reviews have been glowing.

Kotaku's writer is a bit up his own ass about things.

I'm about 3 hours into Stick of Truth and haven't come across a single bug/issue yet. Also have barely touched the main quest, only did a part by accident so far. The premise is fantastic and it feels like playing an episode of South Park.

The next Arkham game has been announced. It shall be Batman: Arkham Knight.

Two plusses for me about it:

1. Rocksteady is back to make this one.
2. You finally get to drive the Batmobile.
Yeah, I'm pretty stoked. Been waiting for another Arkham game since City. Good thing they didn't have an outside studio make a shitty, rushed product with tons of bugs that they won't fix because they want to focus on DLC to milk more money from the audience.

Oh wait.

One must take anything on Kotaku with great big grains of sea salt.
Well, any game review must be taken for what it is, but if someone is having issues with performance on their console it's a good thing to be aware of. It's certainly not unheard of. Keep in mind, the reviewer LOVES the game, he's just bummed that (at least on the xbox) he's having technical issues.

Yeah I played for 4 hours last night on pc and don't encounter a single bug or glitch that I noticed anyway. Like he does say it is perhaps one of the funniest games I've ever played and so close to the source.

Been playing stick of truth, on PC. So far, pretty damn good. There's lots of south park references, and video game references, and... well, you probably have to like South Park to like this game. And I do.
