Video Game News and Miscellany

Nope

Also Sim 4 is coming out next week. It has 89 less features than Sim 3... AAAAND

Shouldn't this game have been a mobile? Or did that Dungeon Keeper fiasco make them change their plans?

Never change EA. Never change.
I think that's a bit hyperbole. While those recommended specs aren't exactly cutting edge, it's not all that low. Most computers capable of playing games will be able to play it, yes, but you still can't run it on say a netbook. In fact, the recommended specs are close to diablo 3, which is itself not a very demanding game, but still otherwise good (now). I wouldn't expect a sims game to require a super beefy machine.

Now, I'm sure it'll still be terrible, because EA. But it'll be terrible for a large list of other reasons.

*headdesk* I can't believe anyone would think this kind of behaviour would be okay. Look, you disagree with her arguments? Fine. You're welcome to disagree. Hell, disagree openly and do all sorts of video criticisms against her argument. But that all gets tossed out the window the moment shit like this happens.

You know what's worse? There are some bro-gamers out there that believe Anita created this other account and sent the threats to herself. Yeah, because women NEVER get real rape or death threats.

Her creating the threat herself is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. We've seen a number of 'self-victimizing' cases in the news over the last few years.

That said, it should be assumed to be genuine and serious unless shown otherwise.

If this was Zoe Quinn (who has been proven to be a pathological liar), that would be my first assumption. But I personally think Sarkesian is on the level.

Yeah, pretty much uncalled for/scary.

You can disagree with what she rants about (albeit easily) but there's no need for these shenanigans.

I think Sarkesian is a twit with an axe to grind and half her arguments are ridiculous (though I don't actually disagree with most of her main points, I just think she makes them poorly and certainly doesn't deserve all the attention she gets - there are better authors out there writing on similar topics), but that doesn't mean, as some people would like to imply, that I think this is in any way or form ok. I don't care if the other side's the biggest asshole in recorded history making logic-free points about debates settled ages ago - this sort of behaviour needs to be dealt with, preferably harshly.

I'm theoretically in favor of an internet that's as anonymous as possible. I hate RealID stuff like Blizzard tries to pull. I don't like Google and Facebook knowing where I am and what I do every moment of the day. But it's this sort of trolling that makes it impossible to actually fight for it, for me. Yes, people should be able to hide behind a bit of anonimity when asking about that funny feeling in their stomach when they see a video of Justin Bieber. No, they shouldn't have the feeling they can give rape and death threats to people and escape. The Greater Dickwad theory in full action, I never understood how people can think it's suddenly ok to do such things when on line.

Azure Striker Gunvolt comes out tomorrow. Comes with a free download code for Mighty Gunvolt, which mixes characters from Azure and from Mighty No. 9 in an 8-bit looking platformer. So, two cool games Mega Man-style games for $15. I'm in.

Honestly I'm so tired of seeing male gamers talk in that manner I can barely engage with any community about video games anymore. It's just so gross and horrible. I want to assume it's a small minority but it sure feels like it's a far bigger group than that.

There's a standalone expansion for Saints Row 4 coming in January.

After the space faring antics of Saints Row IV, many fans asked what we could do next... the answer? Shoot The Devil in the face. Play as either Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington as you tear apart Hell in a quest to save the leader of the Saints’ soul. Historical icons, old friends, older enemies, a talking gun, a full length musical number, and a whole lot of other shenanigans all await you in the open world standalone expansion playground that is Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell.

Gat out of Hell is the standalone expansion to the award-winning and multi-million selling Saints Row IV from Deep Silver and will launch on January 27, 2015 in the Americas and January 30, 2015 in international territories for last gen and new gen console platforms as well as PC.

Gas' opinion: It better be less than 20 bucks.

Nintendo announces a new 3DS model called ... the New 3DS.

Uncreative names aside, this thing sounds at least interesting:

- Added right analog, small in the vein of the Gamecube C-stick
- New cartridge slot placement
- XABY buttons re-colored to SNES standards
- Two more shoulder buttons (I'm guessing so there can be more cross-platform between 3DS and Wii U)
- Enhanced CPU for faster loading, downloading, data transfer, etc.
- New gyroscope-centric 3D so that you and the 3DS don't have to remain motionless for the 3D to work
- Screen will now adjust brightness based on lighting
- Increased battery life
- Amiibo support

On the downside, it'll only use micro-SD cards, meaning any you own are no good. Which is ass; I don't really want to go buying new 32 gig SD cards.

Also, Xenoblade Chronicles, the Wii game that Gamestop bought all the copies for so they could mark it up to $80, will be getting a port to 3DS, but will only run on the New 3DS. Iwata says there will be a few games designed for the stronger CPU. While I'm happy there will be a more powerful 3DS, and I do intend to get one, if it's going to exclude some games then they need to call it something more distinct.

Not going to release outside of Japan until 2015.

I knew this was coming the second the secured the next Monster Hunter for the 3DS. Glad I got my 3DS used for $75 because now I can use it to trade in for one of these later on.

It's kind of shitty that if you own a 3DS you'll be excluded from certain new games.
They did it with the DSi as well, having DSi only games, but that was very clearly a new system, and most of the individualized stuff was garbage. This is a Wii port of a well-received yet rare game whose characters are appearing in one of the year's biggest games.

I don't care for it, but I'm getting the upgrade.

Also, it may be priced below the current 3DS XL price.

Now, if I could get one more thing from Nintendo, it would be to add a 3G option so I could get online anywhere.

How many models of ds are there now anyways? I can't see myself being an owner of a ds if a new model comes out every year with its own game catalog

If you mean the 3DS (which is an entirely different system than the DS, the same way that the PSVita is not the PSP) then there are currently two. The original release, and the XL.
