What are you playing?

Squeenix has such a record for hot garbage over the last 5 years that any faith that this game could possibly be worth playing (let alone paying a monthly fee for) is gone for me.

I enjoyed the hell out of FFXI until WoW was released, I've also enjoyed nearly everything on their handhelds in the last few years. However, I WILL agree that their AAA games on major consoles have been disappointing.

I'm looking forward to an FFXI type game with WoW elements from FFXIV and from what I read on the forums and the website, it's promising close to that.

My biggest issue with Asian MMOs is that they get way too grindy. And then I either get sucked in never to be seen again, or I get annoyed and never touch it again.

Yep FFXI drowned me in grind. It's eventually what pulled me away from it, along with the ridiculous requirements just to play through some story quests.

I'm hoping 14 will have learned from it.

Pretty much everything save for the dungeons can be soloed up to level 20 (I'm 21). There's two quests that need to be done through dungeons, and one at 20-ish for a boss fight. They've already implemented an LFG tool so you don't have to sit in the dungeon areas and shout for a group, plus the early dungeons are 4-man parties (2 dps, 1 tank, 1 heal). The only downside right now is there's just one healer class to the 2 tanks and 3 dps, though once release comes and the Arcanist is released that should add one more healer, I think.[DOUBLEPOST=1373610507][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, and so far I've done very little actual grinding. There's repeatable quests (you're given a daily Allowance of how many times you can repeat them, it's like 30 or something) called Leves, plus the Hunter's Journal which is basically a big list of kill X monsters for a big xp bonus.

I'm a big fan of healing classes, so it seems my choice is made. Btw are you also in the beta? You seem to have some knowledge.

Maaaan, thursdays are set aside with a couple of my bros to be gaming night. One didn't even show up, so we can't proceed in Borderland 2 without him... So the remaining guy and I try out some Killing Floor, and the lamer doesn't even finish one whole game before I hear his wife chattering in the background and then it's all "I'm gonna peace/out dude" FEH.

Cubeworld is like Voxel based like minecraft and procedurally generated as well. However it has more in common with say Skyrim than Minecraft. And that's what I've been playing. I have a Lizardman mage at the moment named Reptar.

You can also play multiplayer online with up to 4 players at the moment, eventually to be more. There are also hanggliders.

Your words have convinced me that that game is not for me. Leveling up via dailies? Ugh.

There's plenty of regular quests and a storyline quest as well. The repeatables would really only be for leveling more than, say, three classes on one character (or if you want to buffer-level a bit though I've never found that needed up to now). Odds are you'd want to focus on two or three at the most anyway. Oh, and there's Fate Events, which are basically things like Guild Wars 2's random zone events or the rifts in Rift. There's generally 2-6 going in every zone of varied levels.

Also yeah, I've been in for the last three weekend betas. This current one is the last before the pre-open beta wipe and the actual open beta.[DOUBLEPOST=1373614592][/DOUBLEPOST]But in the end if it's not for you, it's not for you. I'm just pleasantly surprised at how much fun I'm having with the game so far.

Got into the FF 14 beta. Woot. Just when I was complaining about not getting into the beta.Decided to check after seeing jay get his invited.Lucky me.

Which shard are you guys playing on?

Graphics are nice. Combat seems OKish. Music is awesome.

Lifeless.... it just feels like a grind.

Pas pour moi.

Says the guy who grinds multiplayer non-rpgs ;)

If it felt like a grind, you weren't into it. That's fine, you're not big on RPGs most likely.

Finished the available story quests in FF14 (takes you to about level 21 or so on one class) and enjoyed it so far. I tried not to invest to heavily in learning the story as I don't want to spoil it come release, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Outside of that, still playing Fire Emblem. It's also still awesome.

Oh, this week I played through The Walking Dead: 400 Days. I really hope that this episode was setting up the next season and that the final group is the one that you follow in the next season. Not as emotional as the previous episodes, but it's obviously just there to introduce the characters.

After discussing with some friends how the FPS genre is going backwards in game design (inspired by a recent TotalBiscuit video) I decided to make great use of the summer sale, picking up Duke Nukem 3D from steam, and One Unit Whole Blood (using the package name because just Blood isn't that descriptive) from GoG.

Duke is as awesome as ever, but I'd never actually played (or heard of) Blood before. This amazing FPS from 3DRealms and Monolith has you assuming the role of a resurrected death cultist... or something, fighting against cultists that are out to kill you. Maybe. I haven't really gotten around to reading the story, which is in the manual, but just look at this old school fps goodness.

(note: a game called Blood is probably going to be bloody)

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Holy fucking shit is this game awesome. Seriously, it's as if someone made Ninja Gaiden fun. The slow mo slash mode is the best invention to this style of action game since the genre was invented. Platinum Games make good fucking action games. The music is so awful and cheesy and I love it, love every second of the grinding cock numetal. Plug this game directly into my veins.[DOUBLEPOST=1373701471][/DOUBLEPOST]

I loved the shit out of Blood back in the day. I even liked the buggy as shit sequel.

I wouldn't say that the FPS genre is going backwards, so much as the heavy hitters of the genre are just shitty games (COD and the like).

Took advantage of the Steam summer sale and got Tropico 4, Cave Story and McPixel.

My quick reviews.
Tropico 4: Fun SimCity-type game with a black comedy style as you play a dictator of a banana republic, captures the fun of that gameplay style with plenty of challenge politic.
Cave Story: Fun Metroidvania action and story.
McPixel: Crazy adventure game logic boiled down to its core.

You could have gotten Cave Story for free from my game giveaway thread... no one seems to want it :(
