What are you playing?

Valkyria Chronicles 1.

So far, it's pretty neat.
The only complaint I have with Valkyria Chronicles is that we got it instead of Skies of Arcadia 2. It was originally supposed to be SoA2, but the project was dropped partway into development, partly because they felt the gameplay was too much of a departure from the original.

This is why you can recruit Vyse and Aika from Skies of Arcadia into your squad (both are pretty good) and why Fina is your medic. They simply gave them uniforms instead of their normal clothes.

That being said, the game itself is fantastic, though I'm more than a little disappointed they put the next two parts of the series on the PSP.

For some reason I thought you said Valkyrie Profile, either on Vent or on the forum.

Of the first few PS3 games we got, Valkyria Chronicles was one of the best. I had a lot of fun with the battles, and I'll be happy playing it again sometime. Julie says to keep your squad types' levels at the same as whatever chapter you're on via skirmish extra battles. I barely played any skirmishes, making the latter half of the game into a grueling challenge, especially the final battle, but I think I had fun with it that way.

The only thing I find that was severely lacking is the "randomness" of shots. My tank sometimes cannot properly hit a tank about 50 yards in front of me. I mean, tank aims the front body and shoot. Nope, I get misses and I hit wheels, useless. Meanwhile, they get a tank who can snipe my sweet spot across the map between walls. The combat AI is suspicious.

The storyline and graphics are the best part of the game, the combat is the weakest link. I don't like the concept of getting the best rating when I need to "rush missions" or be limited in CP and use my best units because the others I got FUCKEN SUCK and the limited amount of CP per turn cannot be wasted on fucken retards that can't shoot.

Mass Effect 2

That was flipping awesome! How badly addicted was I to this game? Let's put it this way: three nights in a row, I was up until 5 or 6 AM playing.

The weird thing is...I thought I had saved all my crew during the suicide mission. Did all the right things (I thought), but there was still a coffin at the end and I didn't get the "No One Left Behind" trophy. Had all the big ship upgrades and made all the right choices (I thought) during the suicide mission.

Did you select continue playing after the credits? If so check your team status to see who died. Also, saving the doctor and the crew I think count on that trophy but I'm not entirely sure.

I know that if all your big guns, like Grunt and Garrus, are with you for the final boss or dead, it's possible for weaker party members like Mordin to die during their last stand.

More on Valkyria Chronicles, the storyline is a lot of fun. It's gotten to the point I want auto-win in battles because I'm screaming bullshit every round. The enemy AI is highly suspect and on top of it all there's "the fix is in" moments when the game either spawns a sniper every round as reinforcements that can head shot across the map while mine can't find a target. Snipers really such with terrible accuracy and shittest movement that make them useless in most non-defend scenarios.

Then you have some combat where the AI is fucken retarded and will run up and down to get gunned down. So headshot galore across the map or total retardation.

Also, I HATE the fact that there's this "lag" when you're aiming and you're still getting shot at. This happened once or twice in 10 minutes of combat for the AI. So basically the AI gets these freebies every attack.

The last moment of gaming that will lead me to rethink playing this game with terrible combat is during the Maximillian fight, where you surround him and start taking down his radiators only to find out if you took ONE of them down, the other two automatically go back in until the next wall. Total bullshit. 30 minutes into combat and they just told me to restart because taking them all down at the same time is a waste of time.

Combat is way too suspect.

Is that the one where he's in the big tank in the desert? Yeah, that's a bullshit mission. Most missions aren't that bullshit. But once you know what you have to do, it's not hat hard... you just need to protect your lancers.

To add to this, every crew member has two intrinsic values associated with Holding the Line, one for if they're loyal and one for if they aren't. Mordin hates holding lines, so he has the lowest values on the team. Bring him with you or send him to protect the noncombatant crew members. Guys like Grunt, Garrus, Legion, Zaeed, or Thane contribute the most, so don't bring too many of them away from the line.

I always sent Mordin to protect the crew and almost without fail, my teammates for the final battle were Tali and Jack. Everyone else was left to hold the line.

Really enjoying Brink so far. Now that I've unlocked the light body type, the game feels a bit more like what I had expected from it. Online is awesome, when it isn't marred by horrid lag. This being on 360. It will be fun to play with a good team when they work the kinks out. The story is there but much of the actual story of the game is heard through audio files with a bit complimented by quick cutscenes that happen before during, and after a game.

Played some Brink, pretty disappointed. I expected a more tactical shooter, got unreal tournament without the fun part of unreal tournament.

Taking a break from Dragon Age, I'm getting into Red Dead Redemption beyond the very beginning. Almost ready to take Fort Mercer. The fun of this game's been stated at length elsewhere. I'm getting a real kick out of the dialogue. Every couple minutes there's something that makes me laugh.

Dead Space 2.

This game isn't as scary as the first one, though still quite scary for me.

Nothing close to the scariness of Amnesia: The Dark Descent though.

I think I'll start Kirby's Epic Yarn today! And if I start that, that probably means I'll be bouncing back and forth between Yarn and Donkey Kong Country.
Also, I picked up Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 again the other night. Played 8 hours after work on Friday... >.> Up until 2am, forgetting how much I loved that game. <3 Now I've put 20 hours into it. Wheeee

Still working on Dead Space. Yes I got to the "shoot the asteroids" and am now frustrated to the point of haven't picked it up in 3 days.

Enjoying Final Fantasy 1 PSP 20th Anniversary Edition. Truly the best version of the game ever made, I should know, I own them all.....

Downloaded The Witcher off GoG.com during the $5 sale. It's on my "next" list when I'm done with the previous two.

Started playing, very minimally, TF2 again. Not liking the huge influx of new items, but glad to see they're balanced. With the exception of certain item "set bonuses".

Fuckin Witcher 2 man. What a mysterious game.

I got a couple of chugs here and there so I turned down the graphics settings. The game ran even worse with everything turned down. Like my computer had to work harder putting out less. So I turn everything up, everything (except ubersampling) to maximum. Boom, smooth 50-60 fps. What the fuck?

Well the 1st one was full of bugs until the Enhanced Edition a year later...

Got my hands on Witcher 2.... first hour was spend FINDING OUT HOW TO REMAP AND CURSING.

You need to patch to make use to bind the arrow keys. The numeric keyboard is 100% non compatible nor are the inser/delete/end selection. Awesome. Once a year a game never fails to forget that there are left handed gamers out there or gamers with alternative binds.

Thank god I didn't pay for this.

Man, I chuckle every time you get pissed about a game not catering to you directly before you mention how you stole it.

And to be fair, left handed children are left in forests for the wolves at an early age in eastern Europe. They can't be totally blamed for the lack of thought for lefties.

Magicka had a similar issue, and I hear that a number of Nintendo 3DS games are unfriendly to lefties (because of the single analog stick).

Edit: I've been playing The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. It's a fun puzzle-platformer with decent mechanics that revolve around recording clones of yourself to collect pies. It's not an amazing game, but I certainly got my money's worth (I think I got it for $2.50 on Steam a long while back). I'm glad I finally was in the mood to play it. I finished story-mode, but I'm not sure I'm going to tackle the challenges.

Actually, the game I have in hand is a legit copy. I just didn't pay for it. :)

After New Vegas, I refuse to pay up front for any games. I still buy my fair share.

Every year there's a handful of games who suck like that. Scarface, Dead Space... etc... sure there are ways to get around the problem but seriously, in this day and age, letting the players customize their keyboard to how they want to play should be in the programming video games 101 course.

No, you're right about that. It is bullshit that there isn't sufficient customization. Especially for something as simple as keyboard mapping. That kind of garbage I blame on the consolesque development CDPR did for Witcher 2. The whole game is very much meant for a simplified controller scheme. The most egregious of which for me is that attack and interact are mapped to the same button. Which is irritating as all hell.

Played about 15 minutes of it. Wasn't overly impressed thus far. Dunno, but the terrible customization issue took my interest, at least for tonight.

The World Ends With You: Fun and interesting, though I didn't need a tutorial to understand what a menu is. The dual screen combat seems like one of those "gonna go cross-eyed" things, but I like the challenge of it, like it's a brain-teaser mixed with an action RPG.

Honestly, it's not. You can get away with just mashing the button in the direction of enemies. It's designed to be really simple because your psyches on the bottom half of the screen get more complicated later on.

That reminds me... I still need to get TWEWY back from my friend... she's had it for about 2 years now aheh
I'm still playing through Kirby's Epic Yarn. It's super cute and imaginative and also fairly simple. Sadly, Mike won't play with me... so I have no idea what that's like. Poo.

Also, new computer came and I finally got to play Portal 2! Have not finished it yet, all those high areas were making me anxious so I had to stop.

From the secondary person's POV: boring. I don't know Mike, but speaking as a guy who's been the second banana for this game, I found it lacking any challenge and so it dragged. Definitely cute and imaginative, but I couldn't enjoy it. I know I'd beat it in an afternoon if I wasn't watching my wife play Kirby and poke at every single corner. I could probably play Pokemon on DS at the same time and not miss a beat.

Haha I'm the type of person who pokes around in every corner and has to get every gem and treasure. >.>

It's basically like any other Lego game out there. I only bought it because of my budding Star Wars fan.
