What are you playing?

Ok, so Prison Architect still has some temperature bugs to iron out...

In case the screenshot's not clear, that says the interior of my prison is 1726 degrees Celsius, or 3138 degrees Fahrenheit. For reference, the melting point of steel is around 2500 F. The exterior of my prison is a nippy 7 degrees C.
Prisoners can't melt steel beams.

I'm playing Super Metroid, wondering when I get the charge beam because I could've sworn I had it early on last time I tried to play this, and just discovered it's pretty much at the beginning of the game.

I'm at Ridley. Not prologue Ridley; actual Ridley. Goddammit.

I accidentally the entire game without the springball. I feel your pain.

Been putting a lot of hours into SWTOR. In the last week, my main Bounty Hunter has gone from level 45 to level 62, and I'm now in Act III, and debating doing some of the expansions: Rise of the Hutt Cartel, Shadows of Revan, etc, or whether I should just finish out my class missions first.

My first time through the game I beat Kraid before I got the high jump boots.

Man, Nintendo did not give a shit about linearity back then. Counter that to Metroid Prime, I don't think you could proceed without getting each item in specific sequence.

I prefer it this way, but we'll probably never seen another Metroid game like this.

Hutt Cartel and Shadows of Revan rely on you having some idea of what happened during the main story and class story. All of the NEW stories rely on it too, so finish up your class stuff!

Hmm. At least 17 more missions then. Ugh, and that means recruiting Skadge, the party member everyone hates.

Mako's great, Gault is kind of funny for a douchebag conman, Torian is... useful (though whenever he gets tedious I just say "Shut up, Ichigo" or "Fuck off, anime boy" since he's voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch ), Blizz is crazy awesome (he's a hyperactive gadgeteer Jawa with fur-rimmed cloak and a ROCKET LAUNCHER who's meant to be a RANGED TANK), and Skadge is a Rapey Space Toad who's supposed to be a melee tank who can't tank, doesn't do a lot of damage, can't heal, and BH is already a tank class, and he's an asshole.

Bounty Hunters can become ranged DPS glass cannons, Variable Range Ultra Mobile DPS, or Ranged Tanks... so there are reasons to have tanks as a BH. Also, remember that all companions can fulfill all main roles now. You need Skadge to be a DPS or Healer during his forced sections? You can do that now. And he's less awful now because all companion stats are tied to YOUR LEVEL, not their gear.

Yeah I'm still just gonna leave him on the fucking ship with the bootlick droid.

Well yeah, obviously. There's a reason I said "forced sections". He's not as useless as he used to be when you HAVE to use him so those sections are less of a chore now, but I can't imagine EVER using him any time you aren't being forced to. Then again, I generally always use ether HK-51 or Treek as my companion (Treek used to be broken AS FUCK.)

It's that whole Bioware thing: "Let's make a bunch of awesome Companions, a couple adequate but dull ones... and then this *one fucking guy*."

Enter The Gungeon is so much fun. I've only played 2-3 hours, and I've noticed that, unlike with other rogue-likes, I can't just sit down and play it for a good while. I do a run, stop for a little while, do another run, go do something else... It's probably the bullet hell stress factor, but I think it'll make the game's "shine" last a lot longer, which I'm all for.

I take back what I said about Tomb Raider before. Yes, the early game is really linear and relies far too much on QTEs, but once you get through that part, it opens up a bit and it's really fun to play. Plus the story's actually rather interesting. It's also very satisfying to watch Lara grow from terrified girl to full-on badass. This can be seen not only in her behavior in cutscenes, but also in the increasing difficulty of the platforming and puzzles she has to figure out. In the early game, she'd be whimpering in fear if she had to jump over a ledge. Now? She's happily shimmering along rickety handholds above 100-meter drops, while covered in the blood of the sixteen bad guys she's just disemboweled.

It's an undoubtedly different experience from the previous Tomb Raider games, so a lot of stuff would feel simplified and watered down if you're comparing them. For example, each optional tomb has one puzzle to solve, and that's it. But on its own merits, it's a very good game.

Evoland on Android. This is a cute kind of meta take on the RPG genre. I wouldn't recommend it on mobile, though (unless you have a physical controller you use with your phone/tablet.) The controls are frustratingly bad. I assume that it works a lot better on PC, and it's a fun journey with some good jokes.

Offworld Trading Company, an RTS where, instead of fighting through military unit warfare, you instead seek economic victory through venture capitalism.

Stellaris released today. Super excited. Tried to get an early media copy but my 38 sub YouTube channel just not big enough ;) ha ha
Lots of great streams and youtube videos up lately on the game. #makespacegreatagain
Hope all you 4x'ers give this a look.

I gave up on my sorcelator in Dark Souls 3 and respecced her to a dex character more in line with that of my first playthrough. While it was a little more fun here than in the previous two Dark Souls games, I think I'm just not into being a caster for these games. I can do the strength/faith thing, but that still lets me get up in the enemy's grill, which is what going back to a dex build will let me do.

Only downside is that I've been playing sorcerer for a couple weeks and need to re-teach myself how to play properly, even though I'm close to the end of the game.

I held off on playing Undertale for a long time because I somehow convinced myself I wouldn't like it. Welp, after stating with a true pacifist run, neutral and then ending with a Genocide run, I'm kind of sorry I waited. Maybe I should have listened to Yahtzee on this one.

Now, with a still-extensive backlist to go through, I'll be playing Pillars of Eternity. Hopefully I can finish before Total War: Warhammer comes out.....

It's nice to have goals.

Lets be honest here, even on my rig it'll probably chug and crash like every other Creative Assembly release ever and I'll curse the dark gods for ever spending on a cent on it.

Just like Rome-motherfucking-Total War 2

To be fair, with Rome you're not really missing much.

Finished Dark Souls 3 again, got the last ending which was also the most interesting one, which is funny since in Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2, the ending requiring the most work isn't all that great.

Proud of myself for getting down the final boss's patterns. He felt like such an impossible monster on my first character, and I even respecced my second to be like my first, but this time I learned him well and wore him down.

And with that, it's time to take a break. In the past seven months I've played through Dark Souls part of 4th run, Demon's Souls 1st run, Bloodborne 3rd run and half of 4th run (arcane is a challenge), Dark Souls 2 1.5 times (did the first half, got bored, then later started over), and Dark Souls 3 two times. I need to play some different games for a little bit, even if right now I really want to go back to the first Dark Souls and beat the DLC by myself; I know I have the skills to do it now. But a break would be good and I think I'll enjoy the games even more if I've had to stop for a few weeks.

Beat Super Metroid for the first time.

:(

In my sadness, I struggled to get to the ship before the countdown ended, so in a moment of semi-cool desperation, I got to Samus's ship with ONE FUCKING SECOND to spare. Thought I was going to have to do that finale again, which was still easier than fighting Ridley. Gameplay-wise. Not emotionally. The game and credits are acting like this is a happy time, like no one told the people cutting together the credits what happened during the battle.

I think the bigger question is... did you save the animals?

During the escape sequence, it's possible to return to the room where you originally got the Bomb power-up and there will be a group of animals trapped in the room. You might recognize them as the three green beasts who taught you how to wall jump and the running bird who taught you to super jump. You can blow the wall out of this room, allowing them to escape the destruction of the planet by finding their own ship (which you don't get to see). Oddly enough, this is CANON for Metroid: Metroid Fusion (the next game in the time line) features the animals to remind you how to use the wall jump, implying that Samus DID save them during Super Metroid.

The phrase "save the animals" and "kill the animals" refers to the speedrun community. Because doing it takes about 20 seconds, coming in under par after doing it is a sign of skill. It's also traditionally one of the most donated toward options during the two yearly Games Done Quick charity events: bidding between the Save and Kill sides can go in the excess of thousands of dollars, all of which goes to charity.

I fired up Half-Life 2 for nostalgia's sake.

Still good, though harder than I remember it being. Either I'm getting old and my gaming skills are deteriorating, or I've been playing too many modern games.

It's weird going back to games sometimes. The first two times I played Portal 2, I sailed through it without trouble; it was almost too easy. This weekend I decided to go back to it and while many rooms I enter and feel out what to do, some rooms I've entered and feel lost.
