What are you playing?

“git gud lol”
Right. These people don’t get their fun by playing the game, they only get their fun by winning (the game) and so everything now has to be made “winnable.”
I mean, even Minecraft got ruined by pandering to this mentality.

I'm enjoying Gotham Knights. I'm playing as Batgirl on Super Easy Story Mode because I'm too old for that shit--I just want an RPG that actually RPs and isn't wrapped up in brutal combat. And I think this does. I find it relaxing to just patrol the city and casually take down muggers here and there, some of which trigger a more complex situation (clear out a crime den, rescue hostages, etc.). I'm doing the main story fairly slowly and mostly just exploring--Gotham City is huge!--and do some of the collections first. I enjoy the stealth missions in this game, such as breaking into a computer to plant some info, or trying to rescue hostages without being seen. Controls can be a little awkward and frustrating sometimes because it's designed for controllers, but not game breaking.

I don't like the Batcycle--keyboard controls are terrible with it--but fortunately I love traveling by grappling hook. It's such an iconic way to move around as a Bat. The only reason I used the Batcycle was to move between regions (over the bridges, which is kinda awkward by grapple), but I just unlocked Fast travel, so hopefully I never have to see that cycle again!

I can see why l33t g4m3rz hate this game, but not every game has to be for them.

VS doesn't require the get guddidness of most Roguelikes though. A build with a couple of synergies will have you roflstomping most of the game's challenges quite easily.

The only part I've not really liked was having to unlock the traversal methods, and not verified but I've read you need to do it for each character, but now that I have the Glide for Batgirl getting around is much less tedious as even with the controller I didn't like using the cycle.

My biggest gripe with this (this is the one at the end of Cappella Magna) is that it telegraphs attacks by pulsing the red tinge on the affected portion of the screen, and the background is so busy that half the time I miss it.

And of course it was the ONE time I do a run without a maxed out laurel. Sometimes I don't bother because my builds have, as you said, roflstomped even without it.

Alright, I managed to beat it. I think 90% of my problem was using the Blood Astonomica Arcana along with the Garlic and Song of Mana... which basically makes almost all the center section of the screen pulse red for different reasons.

Way less ridiculous than Slay the Spire.

Once you get the Batwing (Fast Travel), it's even easier. Drop into the region, pop the cape to glide towards your next mission, use grapple once you reach the rooftops. I didn't mind unlocking the Batwing, I just scanned the drones while I did my patrol circuit one night.

Speaking of traversing the city, I've been very impressed with Gotham. Every place really feels like unique locations which is amazing considering just how large the city is. I enjoy exploring because I'm not looking at the same stuff on every street, there are new and interesting things to find (while looking for the Historical Landmarks in the Financial District, I found a restaurant named for Bill Finger). I think Gotham is what has really made this game for me, it's immersive and feels lived in, so I want to patrol it and protect the people walking around on the streets living their NPC lives.

I grabbed Potionomics recently and gave it a try last night. It’s really fun! A bit of Recettear but with the haggling being based on a card game.

I'm replaying Costume Quest for at least the third time. I love this game a lot. It's really simple, but what it does, it does really well. I can't help but think that a remaster with full voice acting would be very streamable.

Just got the Master of Orion achievement for winning every victory type with every basic race, 45 wins in total. Last one was very satisfying as I was way behind and fought back hard to win. Ended it by blowing up a planet.

So I know I was saying that I'm boycotting Pokemon Sword and all other pokemon games until Dexit is completely undone, but last year someone bought me Sword for my birthday, so I waited a symbolic year before starting it. Sort of like, "I'm technically still boycotting you because *I* didn't pay for this! And I showed that I'm not all that eager to play it by waiting a full twelve months before starting it for the first time!"

Anyway, so far I like it.

At its core it's still the same tried and true pokemon formula. Catch, battle, train, get badges. There are some interesting innovations, such as the Wild Area and being able to see some pokemon in tall grass now. The difficulty was dialed way down though, with the Exp All feature being available by default (all pokemon in your party will receive XP from battles, not just the ones that actually participated), and all the information you need such as the type effectiveness of moves is directly given to you. No need to grind battles to level up pokemon, no need to memorize type matchups, etc. I've gotten as far as my fifth badge, and I feel like I've built a decent team for in-game battles (Inteleon, Roserade, Excadrill, Pangoro, Sigilyph, Vikavolt), though of course I'm still looking for improvements. Though I've used Inteleon for around 90% of my battles. The others are just swapped in for specific situations that Inteleon can't handle.

Like Animal Crossing, I'm not a huge fan of how all online features require a paid subscription, because doing stuff like wonder trades in past generations was lots of fun for me. But, again, I get it. The servers and stuff for online services cost Nintendo money. But I don't anticipate actually buying a subscription, so I guess I'll just not be able to use any online features.

Also Sonia is hot. So is Marnie.

Final Fantasy Origins: Strangers in Paradise.

What I expected: Actiony Final Fantasy with ill-conceived Dark Souls difficulty

What I got: Boring actiony Final Fantasy that deluges you with nearly identical loot so you're checking your inventory every 30 seconds. Fuck off.

Like, this would be a fun (if dumb) game without the looter vacuum Diablo crap, with it it's a chore.

The gameplay of that game is awful, I hated it.

The story, on the other hand, is kinda brilliant... in that there isn't one. Or rather, there is, but the main character is so disinterested in hearing it he skips his own goddamn cutscenes.

I've been wanting to try "For the King" for a long time, and it went on sale today for a pittance, so I got it.

So far... I'm trying very hard to give it the benefit of the doubt.... but it feels like a blander, shallower, dry toast version of Wildermyth.

I don't mind the action, it just reminds me of the B level action games of the PS2.

I cannot forgive having 34 CASTER MASKS LVL 3s that are all microscopically different.

I keep trying... but it's just... so... tedious.

Which is a shame, I really want to like this.

Return to Monkey Island

My sister gifted this to me for my birthday, and I'm finally in the right-ish mood to play it. It's absolutely fantastic. The writing is great, the puzzles are pretty good, the music is amazing. I even like the new art style... except for one thing. Guybrush's nose looks like a penis, and I hate it. This game needs a mod to remove the pink from his nose.

Stranger Things Puzzle Tales, a mobile game included with Netflix.

It's.... Well, it's a little like Puzzle Quest, in that it's a Match-3 / Bejeweled-like with RPG elements, with a story mode that's seems to crafted solely to be about why every ST character ever is fighting waves of monsters using polyhedral gems that don't ever roll like dice.

On one hand: Match-3! Stranger Things!

On the other hand: This is so needlessly complicated. There are at least a half-dozen different in-game currencies. Characters level up at least two different ways, and it takes multiple types of currency to do so. There's so much shit on timers. It was very clearly designed to have real-world money funneled into it, but there's no actual monetization outside a Netflix subscription. I think Netflix may have bought another game and reskinned it.

I'll probably keep playing until it gets frustrating.

Dang, bro is hanging schnoz.

Honestly wouldn't have made the penis connection. Looks more like a ballerina's foot en pointe to me.

This is the game that Netflix pulled all their characters from Dead by Daylight for, because Netflix are smart

Sonic Frontiers

WELL this game has consumed my soul, tons of exploration, and a game play style that shifts from classic 3D Sonic style, to Sonic meets Shadow of the Collosus! And in true S-rank speed run game fashion, the first level is hard as balls to get S-rank on. Its just those DAMN turns, UGH!

If it follows true Sonic fashion, the first level will be the only good one

Pokemon Sword

Max Lair Adventures are bullshit and I hate having to go through this whole thing with the dumbest AI-controlled trainers in the history of dumb trainers using nothing but trash pokemon I have to rent or pick up. If I could actually use my own pokemon and do all these things solo I could sweep through these lairs without any problems, but nooooo, I have to do these raids with morons who have no idea what a type chart is while commanding a pokemon with a mad libs approach to move selection.

Anyway, I just failed four straight Groudon raids, each of which takes about 20 minutes.

I haven't played a video game in like 3 weeks and I'm fiending for something new.

/Miles Morales has released on PC.

Fuckin' eh world, problem solved.

Can't wait for Dunky's video where he destroys the game for it's framerate and blurry textures. I'm enjoying it otherwise but it's rough for anything not directly in front of you.

There was one cutscene in a classroom where the other students looked like clockwork children which may give me nightmares.

Also, stoner Zorro cat gang unite.

The only thing wrong with Darktide is I don't have more people to play it with. I'm playing with Randos but everything's always better with people you know.

My character is an ogryn with a neckbeard who looks like he gave himself a haircut with a pair of safety scissors. And that's just the way I like it.
