Whats for Dinner?

K

Kiff

Jauhelihakeitto, ground beef soup. A pound and a half of ground beef, five potatoes, three carrots, a touch of ketchup, soy sauce, oregano, basil, pepper, paprika.

Delish!
Sign me up. Is it a runny type soup, or a thicker stew like consistency?

The runny type. But it will slowly go towards stew during reheats; I'll be eating this for... at least 2-3 days, easily. Likely longer. It's quite filling, you know.

Is there one with out potatoes? I suppose I can substitute them out with like sausage or something for consistency and texture. I'm not really a fan of potatoes.

No, not really. Finns are quite the potato-eaters.

Anyhoo...

1,5 lbs. (about 700g) of ground beef
3 carrots
5 medium or 3 big potatoes
soy sauce
ketchup
oregano
basil
spice pepper
paprika

1. Wash, peel and slice the carrots.
2. Place the carrots in a large cooking pot with enough water to cover them. Turn on the heat and let them boil while you continue.
3. Wash, peel and slice the potatoes.
4. Add the potatoes into the boiling carrots. Add water to make sure they are covered. Turn down the heat so they won't stick to the bottom.
5. While the potatoes and carrots are boiling, cook the ground beef. Add a little of each spice to give them an extra bit of flavour.
6. Pour the ground beef into the pot, add water to cover them, too.
7. Add spices, some ketchup and a little soy sauce (no more than 2-3 spoonfuls).
8. Let simmer.
9. Serve with grated cheese on top. Or without. Your choice.

Maybe rice? You couldn't boil it with he carrots but it makes a good starch in soups. I'd take the potatoes myself.

Barbecued Pork Yummmm. I made it so it is a 50% chance it will taste good. :)

I think you are giving your self to high of a percentage for success there. I know your cooking and I would hazard it being closer to a 10% chance of it actually tasting half decent.

Hey we were out of bread and I thought corn chips would work as a substitute. Lesson learned

Tomorrow I'm making Jake a beef stew for his birthday, although I'm secretly hoping he'll change his mind and ask me to cook chili. I'm also making lemon cookies.

Yesterday, when I was going to a job interview in my old home region, I also visited my parents. They gave me something I can't find in Turku, and something that I really miss: smoked lake herring. I devoured two of them tonight, succulent and tender morsels as they were. Just needed a quick, 30-second pop in the microwave to warm them up, and then they were good enough to eat with your fingers.

Im going to have an apple.

No, im not going to finish the sentence with "pie" or "dumpling" or "fritter".

Just apple.

Korean BBQ: beef, chicken, fried mandoo, rice, potato salad, and some vegetables, finished off with a slice of guava chiffon cake

For brunch we had baked french toast, breakfast enchiladas, sausage links, biscuits and gravy, pineapple cubes and orange slices.

My meals for today were:

- Breafast -
A peanut butter and banana shake. Er, not as unhealthy as the "shake" part makes it sound. It's just PB, banana and whole milk blended together. Comes out surprisingly thick and tasty (especially with a frozen banana), without any sweetener but the fruit.

- Lunch -
Roast chicken topped with a homemade sauerkraut-like fermented slaw
Carrots, pearl onions and mushrooms that were cooked with the chicken
Baked butternut squash "fries"
Asparagus with plenty of butter

- Dinner -
Chicken & vegetable soup
Cheese & crackers
Fruitcake for dessert.

Fried rice with anchovies and Thai chilli sauce, with a side helping of "rojak" ( fried dough fritters, prawn, boiled eggs, cuttlefish and cucumber in a sweet spicy peanut sauce.

I'm in spiciness heaven.

Wasabi Poptart

Chili! Ever since mine got used in the contest on the ship I have been wanting some. :)

Sautéed asparagus, brown rice, cucumber cookies, broiled pork chops and some home made bread with milk.

Now enjoying some Scotch.

So all the Karma you got on Reddit isn't enough now you need to adoration from us now? :p

But in all seriousness I will have to give that a try sometime soon.

Went to Five Guys Burgers and Fries for my birthday today and I gotta say... how the fuck are these guys winning awards? It's a decent burger, far better than the likes of McDonald's or Wendy's, but decent doesn't justify 6 bucks for a burger. I could have gotten a burger just as good (and almost as big) for half the price down at my local coney shop and it wouldn't have felt like I was eating in a god damn factory.

Seriously... put in some fucking booths. If your going to try and capitalize on 1950's diner imagery to sell your burgers, maybe you should fucking make the place look like a 50's diner.
