Except that the New series controls so much worse than the older games. It's floatier and less precise. I thought maybe I was just remembering the old games playing better, but then actually going back and playing Super Mario 3 or World, I wasn't crazy. They just straight control better.I appreciate the "New" series, but then again I'm so much more a retro gamer. I think my favorite part of the Wii was the virtual console. The new Super Mario games are a great throwback, and still manage to surprise me with some new platforming difficulty.
Actually I think the controls work great on the game pad. I've never been a fan of how controls work out on the wii classic controllers or even the PS and Xbox controllers when it comes to the more classic games. I can't beat a single Megaman game on any of them because of how wonky it is.[DOUBLEPOST=1363596222][/DOUBLEPOST]Retro games were not made for analog controls.Except that the New series controls so much worse than the older games. So excited to hear that. One of my main annoyances was having to go to the Wii Menu for my Virtual Console games. Can't wait to play these games on the main menu with the Game Pad.Virtual Console for Wii U goes live on Tuesday!
Except for games designed around the controller, you can use a regular Wii-mote if the screen bothers you that much. It actually adds quite a bit for games designed with it in mind, for example ZombiU.I miss when Nintendo would make their gimmicky crap optional. Yeah, when I was a dumb kid, I had the Powerglove and the Power Pad, but my god, were games near unplayable with the Powerglove. "It's so bad!" was an understatement.
The same applies to the Wii U. Why do we need a screen on the controller? What's so wrong with hitting a button on a normal controller and having something pop-up on the main TV? The former doesn't do anything to add to the gameplay.
You're dead to me.I miss when Nintendo would make their gimmicky crap optional. Yeah, when I was a dumb kid, I had the Powerglove and the Power Pad, but my god, were games near unplayable with the Powerglove. "It's so bad!" was an understatement.
It absolutely does add to the gameplay. And unlike certain other third-party gimmick items it works just fine and as intended. Think of the gamepad as an ipad accessory. It gives you the touchpad experience of the DS which allows for several gameplay options that a standard controller can't give you such as using a stylus to draw or type. Many games are being made with functions that only work on the game pad such as Arkham Asylum: Armored Edition which gives you an equipment screen on the gamepad to make for quick changes and options that you can tap with your fingers. In multiplayer VS games the game pad is often used as a second screen to keep people from "screen watching". Some games also utilize the game pad and it's motion sensors to act as a viewing device such as Zombie U which uses it as a scanner to help you locate items in a room.I miss when Nintendo would make their gimmicky crap optional. Yeah, when I was a dumb kid, I had the Powerglove and the Power Pad, but my god, were games near unplayable with the Powerglove. "It's so bad!" was an understatement.

Nothing quite like the Ambassador program, but we do at least get a few VC games at 30 cents each including punch-out and Super Metroid. The Wii U is still young and finding its identity. Is it going to release lots of gamepad-centered shovelware that eventually evolves into games that excel with the gamepad, as the Wii did with the wiimotes? Or is it going to concede on its gimmicks and just focus on putting out good games on the system, like the 3DS? We won't know for a while yet.
I'm open to getting one when there are games that are console-sellers. It just doesn't have any releases like that. Feels more like it has some stuff to justify its existence to early adopters. I hope that if Nintendo does a price drop soon that you current Wii U owners get something like the ambassador program on the 3DS (20 free VC games that later buyers can't get). That would be fair. But really I'm hoping that Nintendo announces some worthwhile titles in June, due out in November.
Is that only if you own them already on the Wii VC or brand new for 30 cents?Nothing quite like the Ambassador program, but we do at least get a few VC games at 30 cents each including punch-out and Super Metroid.
Brand new. It's a special Nintendo 30th anniversary trial system they set up back at the beginning of the year. They would release one VC game for 30 cents every month. Once the month was over the price went back up. The last of the sales ends in august. Is that only if you own them already on the Wii VC or brand new for 30 cents?
Maybe they should have thought about having some solid games in the first place. I'll grant that nearly every launch lineup is junk, but it's been six months. The biggest reason to get a Wii U is the Virtual Console being playable on the gamepad--that's not a system mover. Wind Waker HD is cool, but that's also not a reason for me to buy the console. Maybe if they get Okami HD that would tilt slightly more in my favor, but at some point the Wii U needs to get good games that aren't ports or HD re-releases.It seems the Wii U continues to falter sadly:
http://bgr.com/2013/05/21/nintendo-wii-u-sales-analysis/
Hopefully there will be a boost when some more solid games are released.
Also Nintendo's fault. I feel like they weren't supporting the Wii all that well in its last year of life aside from Skyward Sword. The Wii U just doesn't distinguish itself very well and the gamepad doesn't appeal to people the way the Wiimotes did.I don't think it's the same thing this time. Wii managed to get a lot of people who would never buy a video game console to buy a video game console. Those same people just aren't buying Wii-Us.
What I gather from this is that Canada has absolved itself from the Convention Against Torture and Canadian police play that kid's voice to interrogate suspects. You fricks need to stop criticizing the Wii-U.
This is me. I'm guessing Nintendo is going to show us something of worth come E3 ... I hope. I want to get a Wii U, but there's nothing to justify it right now except, as you say, old games. I didn't get to play Wind Waker. I'd love to play it and if I have a Wii U, I'll get the HD version. But that's not a console sell to me. If they got Okami HD, that'd also be cool, but still not worth buying the console over. Same goes for Earthbound on the VC and some other VC titles (though I'd rather have them on my 3DS for on-the-go). But I need them to show us something new. And I'll accept the Nintendo version of new, i.e. the same thing but in a new title. Show me a new Zelda that isn't Link to the Past 2: Paper Zelda 3D. Show me a new Metroid game. Kirby. Whatever, Nintendo, just do something.I want to love the WiiU. I do. Nintendo's always been my favorite gaming company. But there are so few games out for it right now that there's nothing drawing me to it.
Sorry, they were snapped up not long after I posted about it. I should've edited the post to say they were gone. And Quotemander, I'll take it if you're still offering. (New dad = where did all my game money go )
The Wii U is pretty much just sitting around giving me some virtual console options and the occasional Nintendo-land fun with some friends. I gave Scribblenauts Unlimited a play-through and it was fun, but not at all a replayable game for me. I also own a few other titles such as ZombieU, Arkham City, and Assasins' Creed 3. Currently they are all sitting on the shelf waiting for me to tire of Bioshock Infinite (GETTHISGODDAMNGAME!RAAHH!!). Yes I know that two of those are not WiiU exclusives, but it's what I have it on and I'm going to enjoy them all in due time.
As far as upcoming titles; I am excited to see what Nintendo has in store for us. I'm probably going to make the WiiU my only 8th generation console. This is mostly due to the fact that Sony and Microsoft have not shown me anything worthwhile. In fact everything they have shown so far has hurt my interest, such as no backwards compatibility. I am a man of few needs; but one of them is being able to replay games without having to plug in a single generation inferior system. I don't want to pay to download something I already own.
If I want to play a VC game I had on the wii I can easily switch to the Wii mode and play it. I transferred all my VC titles from the wii to the wiiU. The kick is that you won't be able to play VC from the wii on the wiiU's gamepad without first downloading the WiiU version of the game. However you do get a discount if the system detects you already have the game. So at least they do that for you.Isn't that what you do when you get a VC game you already had on Wii?
Why would you need a pro controller? Unless you don't have a wiimote.oh yeah, super excited, finally going to get a wii u pro controller for it so I can sit and play on my tv.
summer 2014 last I heard...
Ugh, that's ... damn. Well played, Nintendo. This is almost getting me....
So very very tempted.
I suppose if I really wanted to play it I would just have to unpack my DS and pull out my copy of GBA Zelda. I'm sure I'll get the VC version though, just so I have it on the big screen again.Speaking of Zelda, the next Virtual Console release will be The Legend of Zelda for NES.
It's already up on the e-shop.Speaking of Zelda, the next Virtual Console release will be The Legend of Zelda for NES.
You can still access the Wii shop, all the games that I had purchased on the marketplace for my Wii can be accessed on my WiiU, but I just have to go into the Wii menu.Forgive me, but wasn't The Legend of Zelda up on the original Wii's Virtual Console? What's the benefit of the Wii U for that? And why would it be delayed? Shouldn't the entire library be on the new console right away?
And unfortunately this "Wii U Love Thread" is sounding like "The best thing about the WiiU is all the old games from other consoles that it plays." That's really sad. Back in the day when the decision for me was between a DS and a PSP, a lot of people said that the PSP was great for emulation and such... but the games themselves were "meh" for the actual console, whereas the DS had all sorts of great games for it. Thus I bought a DS and have never regretted it, as I can emulate on my PC or something. Is that the main virtue of the WiiU, that it plays a lot of awesome older games? To me that's a rather sad endorsement!
I didn't buy the GameCube until Metroid Prime came out for it (and for the record, if that was the ONLY game that was good, it would have been worth it, as the game was THAT fantastic). I think it's going to be something similar for this console, after it's on sale.
Here's the real point, and the movement for me:While the Gamestop Wind Waker Wii U bundle is tempting, it's not enough for me to plunk down $300 for essentially a Gamecube game.
Not that I don't want to play Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, or The Wonderful 101. They're just not system-movers for me. I'll eventually get a Wii U when my system-worthy games come out, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and Bayonetta 2 (though I ponder how the Gamepad controller is going to feel with the latter), and once I have a Wii U I'll probably get some of the other good stuff plus some VC games. I'd just like to hear about a new Zelda or good Metroid game on the horizon.
At least the Wii U is doing better than the Vita, right? I know that's not saying much, but still.
I don't think the current price is unreasonable under your logic ($250 for deluxe Wii U, $50 for Wind Waker HD). I just don't see a need to buy it now when there's not much to do on it at the moment. Here's the real point, and the movement for me:
What would you pay for the WiiU?
My price is $250 possibly $200.
The Wind Waker HD bundle is $300. So I'm paying, in my eyes, $50 for Wind Waker HD + A customized Zelda Wii U.
Which to me, justifies it.
I would probably wait for a price drop if the Custom Zelda WiiU wasn't a limited time offer.I don't think the current price is unreasonable under your logic ($250 for deluxe Wii U, $50 for Wind Waker HD). I just don't see a need to buy it now when there's not much to do on it at the moment.
I noticed that the Zelda bundle only comes with 1 controller listed. So add $50 for another controller. The custom graphics are cool but I'm not sure they are worth the price.I would probably wait for a price drop if the Custom Zelda WiiU wasn't a limited time offer.
I only need one controller, so it's all good.I noticed that the Zelda bundle only comes with 1 controller listed. So add $50 for another controller. The custom graphics are cool but I'm not sure they are worth the price.
$50 for the Wii U custom limited edition graphic. A full HD remake of a fantastic game and the digitial $20 book. For some reason I thought that the regular deluxe console came with 2. So you're paying an extra $50 for the pretty graphics. And the Hyrule Historia... I guess that could be worth it if you didn't have the book already.
edit.
I thought that it came with 2 but upon further research I am wrong. So $50 for the graphics and the book which retails for $20 so not bad I guess.
I used an SD card. That was pretty painless. I'm miffed, however, that you cant use the SD card for actual system memory on the WiiU, like you could with the Wii. I'm keeping my Wii around solely to play my GC games on, though at this point, I'm thinking it would probably just be better to just get my gamecube out and hook that up and sell the Wii.Hey I still can't get a USB card to work in it so that I can transfer my Wii data. :/
Ignore this message if you already know this.I meant SD card. Not a single one has worked in it. None.
Yeah, you have to go through the Transfer Chanel on the Wii within the Wii U.Ignore this message if you already know this.
There is a particular method to transferring via SD card, as just storing the data onto the card and then attempting to access them on the WiiU will simply not work.
Here is a simple video tutorial for transferring your data.
http://wiiudaily.com/2013/09/how-to-transfer-games-from-your-wii-to-wii-u/
IMPORTANT: Make sure you transfer back onto your Wii any files you want to include into the transfer to the WiiU before you begin the process.
That's not the problem. No SD cards work. At all. Even tried using my DS one for the Animal Crossing channel. Still can't read it. I mean I literally go through the transfer shit, but it won't acknowledge any of the cards as being there.Yeah, you have to go through the Transfer Chanel on the Wii within the Wii U.
My WIi U refuses to acknowledge that there is a functioning SD card in the slot when it comes time to use it. I have gone through about 5 of them, all of which work just fine in other devices including my 3DS.Which isn't reading it, the Wii, or the WiiU?
I'm surprised they had to delay Donkey Kong; I wonder what could've been the issue for what's mainly a platformer.Rayman Legends is amazing on the Wii U! It's awful on the 360, but perfect with the Wii U's controls!
Donkey Kong needs to come out sooner. I can't wait for Dixie!! XD She hasn't been playable on any demos yet unfortunately, but I can't wait to pick up DK when it comes out in ...February... Dixie has always been my favorite! :3
Super Mario 3D Land also needs to come out NOW. Playing as a kitty is stupid fun , and it's super cool that they brought back the character traits from Super Mario 2! Toad is quick, Luigi has his super jump, Peach has her floaty jump... ahh it's perfect! Also, FIRE PEACH! <3
There's a lot of games I need to buy...
We sold our Wii back when Julie lost her job two years ago, so everything on there went to its eventual new owner. I just had codes from Club Nintendo that I was saving up for eventually getting a Wii U. I put those into the Wii section, so they're already on the Wii U.The WiiU allows for classic Wii play, so you can play your Wii games and Wii VC titles. However you will need to go through the transfer process to get your VC games to your WiiU. (Please see above for exact info how to do this, as it's not as simple as transferring them via SD card.). So if you have Wii download codes, you can get the games on your WiiU, then transfer them over. Once you do that you can pretty much gift your wii to someone else. Any games that you download via the Wii, that end up on the WiiU virtual shop, can be purchased for a small fee (discounted from 1st purchase price) which will allow you to use them on the WiiU gamepad.
His problem is that some of the Wii virtual console titles required either a classic controller or a GC controller. Since the WiiU doesn't have ports for the GC controllers, he either has to buy the classic controller or wait until they are added to the WiiU shop with the WiiU gamepad compatability.[DOUBLEPOST=1382886285,1382885770][/DOUBLEPOST]Though, if you do scrape up a few extra bucks, there is this option. The WiiU allows for classic Wii play, so you can play your Wii games and Wii VC titles. That's an issue with the wiiU, not usb2.0. I have several seagate drives that don't require a separate connection for power, one of the drives I even use for my wii.As far as hard drives go for the WiiU there, is a little catch to them. Because the USB ports on the system are only USB 2.0, you need hard drives that either have an external power source or a Y split that uses both ports (one for power, the other for data). A list of compatable hard drives can be found here. There are more that will work than are listed on the site, but those are the ones that have been tested and been deemed compatable by Nintendo themselves.
I'll most likely never get the pro controller for the WiiU. it's basically made for the cross platform titles and I certainly won't be getting those for the Wii U.I might just get a classic controller because it's not like I need a Wii U pro later; the gamepad works.
If I could hook more than one GC controller into that at a time, I'd probably go for it.Though, if you do scrape up a few extra bucks, there is this option.
http://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-Nintendo-GameCube-Controller-Adapter-Wii/dp/B00BS520SG
Thinking about getting one myself.
I wouldn't hold my breath. They haven't really said anything about DS integration and if they were going to do that, I'm sure they would have touted it as the second coming of christ by now.If I could hook more than one GC controller into that at a time, I'd probably go for it.
I'm really hoping that when Super Smash Bros 4 comes out, Nintendo will let us use 3DS's with the game as extra controllers the way Sony let people use PSPs/Vitas. That way no one gets saddled with a Wiimote.
Oh, I'm totally there with you. Until Nintendo builds a real powerhouse console (aka never) it's not going to be my go-to for general 3rd-party stuff. The gamepad feels nice, but I couldn't imagine playing a FPS with the right analog stick above the buttons. It's just not what I'm used to.[DOUBLEPOST=1382886874,1382886834][/DOUBLEPOST]I'll most likely never get the pro controller for the WiiU. it's basically made for the cross platform titles and I certainly won't be getting those for the Wii U.
There's still time. You're probably right, but there's still another 7-8 months before the rumored release date.I wouldn't hold my breath. They haven't really said anything about DS integration and if they were going to do that, I'm sure they would have touted it as the second coming of christ by now.
Well, I don't know then. I'm definitely getting the 3DS version unless they kill the online multi-player, but now that we have a Wii U, I'm contemplating the Wii U version as well just for when my cousins or siblings visit. What I mean is, if there was interconnectivity between the 3DS and the Wii U, they would have showcased it by now.
Agreed. If there's one thing Nintendo still does right, it's make a console you'll have fun with. I also like that I can play Wii games, though I don't know if I can transfer saves from Wii to WiiU, which means I might have to start Xenoblade over.Well, it's been a few days now, and I'll admit, I was wrong about the Wii U. I'm very happy with this console. I was not wrong about the shortage of solid games--that's still lacking--but I don't have the money to buy them, so personally it's not an issue right now and it should be amended by this time next year. But the console is good and its failure comes because people (myself included) haven't been willing to give it a chance. You can blame that on how Nintendo is marketing it, that's fine, but there's nothing wrong with the hardware or how it handles.
Yes, you can. You just need an SD card.Agreed. If there's one thing Nintendo still does right, it's make a console you'll have fun with. I also like that I can play Wii games, though I don't know if I can transfer saves from Wii to WiiU, which means I might have to start Xenoblade over.
No no, got lucky and found it used a few months beforehand for like $40. Same with Last Story, which I still haven't played...I'm assuming you got Xenoblade for the whole Gamestop bullshit scheme.
I would have agreed a few years ago, when simultaneous PC and console releases were rare if at all. Now that's usually not the case, so I feel like I'd be wasting my money buying one at this point. The only reason that I'll still be getting nintendo consoles are for those sweet sweet exclusives. To be honest, we didn't get a PS3 until April 2010, and even then, about two and a half years after it came out, it still had slim pickings for solid games that I wanted to buy. Now we love our PS3 and use it all the time, with a sizable collection of winners.
PC is kind of a solo thing and my wife likes to watch.I would have agreed a few years ago, when simultaneous PC and console releases were rare if at all. You met Shahasrala? That's great. TraLaLa!I will too ... but I have to finish A Link to the Past first . Thanks Nintendo for giving that one away this month, now there's pressure.
I have the Pendant of Courage!
woo ... progress.
How many dungeons are in this game? 3 pendants, 7 pieces of Tri-Force, so ... 10?You met Shahasrala? That's great. TraLaLa!

No, it's just the Wii VC. Club Nintendo is offering it this month.did it come out on wiiu vc or something? I am curious because I would probably replay it lol.
It's weird to me that the 3DS has been out for 2 years and 8 months. It's been going strong all 2013, but damn did it take a while.[DOUBLEPOST=1385089340,1385089296][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm buying a 3DS tomorrow for Zelda. Eat my shit Microsoft and Sony. I'll probably get a Wii-U for 3D World soon enough. Wait a year, consoles become worthwhile is the best advice ever.
I want to get it too, butI mean, I kind of don't want to know any more than that. They had me at sequel to favorite game. Just need disposable income.
I've played through the first world. Far as I can tell, you can use any controller out there. Is Super Mario 3D World compatible with the regular Wiimote, or does it require the Motion Plus?
I am loving it, been playing it all day. my thoughts so far below in random fashionIt looks like it'll be a lot of fun multi-player. I won't be after it right away, but I'll probably pick it up later.
People are going bananas over A Link Between Worlds.
I know I shouldn't... but I think I'm going to get this game.So I finished this game this morning before running into work. It felt a lot like Skyward Sword with being a nobody who becomes the lands greatest hero. Not sure if I am going to try hero mode right way, the extra challange might be more than I want to take on for the same game through.
You should be fine. It will take up most of your SD card, though. I had to uninstall Paper Mario Sticker Star to install this.I know I shouldn't... but I think I'm going to get this game.
Downloading is easy right? Right now my SD card doesn't have more than a few VC games on it. It's the one that came with the system.
1. Put SD card with 3DS data into computerYeah, I should have put in a bigger SD card. I have one that I used to use for my Wii that I no longer need now that I've done the system transfer, but I don't know how to copy one to the other.
My internet connection is really fast, so I could just re-download the games on a blank card, but I think I'd lose my saves if I did that.
I'll have to go ahead and do it. I have a 32GB SD card and my laptop has an SD card slot I can use.1. Put SD card with 3DS data into computer
2. Copy ENTIRE contents into 3DS folder
3. Copy ENTIRE contents onto new SD card
4. Insert new SD card into 3DS
I cannot stress enough, copy everything that's in there. The only extra step would be emptying out the new SD card before putting 3DS contents onto it.
I did this for myself, my wife, and my cousin--retained all games and save files.
You mean the players need stop naming him Link.Ya know, if Hyrule wants to stop getting F-ed over, they should really stop naming their kids Zelda and Link.
We keep seeing a bit of a pattern...
I named my character "Dumbass" in Windwaker. You mean the players need stop naming him Link.
Name him *farts*I named my character "Dumbass" in Windwaker.
Still pretty funny to see all the characters say "Hey! Dumbass!"
or
"You are the lengedary hero, Dumbass?"
The new Zelda game that is bundled with the 3DS XL is A Link Between Worlds.Ok. I'm confused. There is a new Zelda game that's out and also bundled with the console. What's Between Worlds?
One of the more unique and fun games in the series. Originally came out for the Gamecube in 2001. The biggest issues with the original version was the amount of time spent sailing, and the break in the pacing with an extended fetch quest near the end of the game. Both issues are addressed in the Wii U version (faster sailing, less fetch). How is Zelda Wind Walker?

Some people bemoan a general lack of dungeons, especially in one obvious spot where one was removed at the last minute, but the stuff in those dropped dungeons was incorporated into other areas of the game anyway. The story is fun, the graphics are fun, the gameplay is fun.
Looks like us Halforumites here in the States won't be getting that this week. We'll get the new addition of Double Dragon to the Nintendo eShop.A Link to the Past was released on Wii U VC in Europe today, so stateside may come Thursday.
Well woop-de-shit. Thanks, Nintendo.Looks like us Halforumites here in the States won't be getting that this week. We'll get the new addition of Double Dragon to the Nintendo eShop.
Yeah, it looks like the same model from Ocarina of Time. That Dodongo looks like assbutt. But It's probably still a really early build.
Well, on the one hand I see similarities to his Smash combos (slice slice spin attack, etc), but then there's the integration of items to combos that seems to be in the works, like the combo into Fire Rod. I'd love to see a decent roster of characters since it's not a canon game, too. Ganon/Gannondorf, Shiek, Zelda, maybe the Ancient Knight from TP, Midna in her true form, etc.[DOUBLEPOST=1387414980,1387414929][/DOUBLEPOST]I am torn about Hyrule Warriors, on one hand Dynasty Warriors is a fun if a bit repetitive game and this appears to be a Dynasty Warriors meets Zelda game but I am still concerned about how it will hold peoples long term interest. I think the main thing that could hurt it would be if they hold too closely to the Legend of Zelda mechanics. If they aren't afraid to spice things up a bit by making Ganon a playable character or stuff like that it could be a huge success.
Didn't see many items being used in the trailers so far, but I'd wager it will.Does it still have blue shells?
This looks like a lot of fun:
Not in North America. It's on the Wii eshop, but not the Wii U, and my wife doesn't want to watch that game on the TV, so I'm waiting to get it in a format I can play on the gamepad. Is A Link to The Past not out yet in the E shop?
I love that game. It's like Viewtiful Joe and Overlord had a baby.I got two new Wii U games and 55$ worth of eShop cards. First, my thoughts on the two main titles I got:

Frickin'. Awesome. The game may have a harsh learning curve, but once you get into the swing of things, this weird mix of RTS and beat-'em-up and is absolutely fun. It's also a thrilling and comedic take on a whole stew of superhero and anime tropes. Plus, tell me this theme song doesn't pump you up:
Thanks for the suggestion. I recently used those eCards and, along with cash I already had in the account, got the following games:Earthbound!
I'd say that he's more expressive than in TP, but not nearly as much as WW. The visual style actually isn't very similar to TP at all. It goes back to a slightly more cartoonish look that I find works really well.Up to 17 hearts in Wind Waker HD. I think that's plenty, the pieces I've missed sound annoying. I'm ready to finish this thing.
Since the Zelda games I've chiefly been playing of late are this and ALBW, both which feature Link as an expressive and amusing character, what should I expect from Skyward Sword? I know it has a similar visual style as Twilight Princess, but is Link the same wooden block as in that game? I ask because Skyward Sword is going to be the next major use of our Wii U unless I feel more like re-playing Okami.
That's good to hear. I knew it wouldn't be as much as toon Link, but I was nervous about SS.I'd say that he's more expressive than in TP, but not nearly as much as WW. I loved their relationship in Spirit Tracks. I wish I'd been able to finish that game, but that stupid pipe think you had to do with blowing on the DS to open parts of the map just wouldn't work right for me and I only got about halfway through the game.I'd say Skyward Sword probably has the best Link/Zelda relationship dynamic of any game in the series, aside from maybe Spirit Tracks.
Spirit Tracks reminds me how much I liked Phantom Hour Glass, but for some damn reason I can't find my copy anymore. =(I loved their relationship in Spirit Tracks. If I could lend you my copy, I would. I LOVE Phantom Hour Glass. Some great creative use of the DS in that one.Spirit Tracks reminds me how much I liked Phantom Hour Glass, but for some damn reason I can't find my copy anymore. =(
On normal the battle tower is nothing to write home about, on HERO MODE, it was something out of my nightmares even fully equipped. The one thing I didnt bother with was the Shadowlink Battles. it just didnt seem that important to me to complete.Just finished A Link Between Worlds.
That was really special. The first Zelda game ending to ever get me misty-eyed. This whole game was a treat, and like others, I can't believe I did 100% on the first run.
Yuga also did them a favor. By binding Ganon to a mortal form, they were able to finally defeat him instead of seal him in the Sacred Realm again.
Just a fucking awesome game. I'm sad that it's over.
EDIT: I played the game without a guide, so apparently I only though I got 100%. Didn't occur to me to try the 50 floor Treacherous Tower. The rewards aren't great, but when I have time, I'll do it just to have done everything.
Not in North America.[DOUBLEPOST=1390662862,1390662614][/DOUBLEPOST]Is A Link to the Past on the e-store yet?
If you can beat them at a time when you're hard up for Rupees to purchase items from the mooch living in your house, doing one of those battles is a quick way to get a few hundred rupees. Though eventually it becomes pointless as rupees lose their value. I ended the game with over 4500 rupees and my Streetpass bounty at 999. Anyone who can beat me in that gear likely has no use for rupees anymore either and I know my wife isn't going to beat that since she just started.
I think my wife will want to not do those ones. What we're playing is a challenge enough for her.3D World is fun with or without others, especially once you clear the main worlds and move onto the Star Road levels, which are pretty challenging.
Honestly those are better left to solo play anyway. I can't imagine doing some of that platforming with another person.I think my wife will want to not do those ones. What we're playing is a challenge enough for her.
literally just got there tonight, you know what the last 3 levels are ridiculous! not to mention the final 5 stamps if you are playing solo!Currently stuck on a couple levels in the Star Road Flower level set. Shit gets really hard all of a sudden.
You misunderstood what that IP business meant. Iwata wants to increase merchandizing, such as more Nintendo-themed toys, apparel, etc. Not games.Big shareholders meeting yesterday, some highlights being more focus on the use of the tablet controller, DS games on the VC, and licensing IPs to other companies to help boost the rather sad sales of the system.
Now, let's all hope this means we get new, amazing Metroid and F-Zero games. I would kill a man in cold blood for a Bethesda-sized Metroid adventure.
You're not the only one. Well... I got it for Christmas... of 2012. I played it once, and just never got back to it. Feels like a game I really need to immerse myself in.We bought Zombie U forever ago and still haven't played it.
That's already out.Maybe I'd need multiple of those before switching, but that it's been this long with none is not good.
- Super Mario Galaxy (or the like, full 3D) type game. Can be "not galaxy" as that's not required, but not a 2-D one. I have New Super Mario Brothers Wii and the DS one Great games. But I want more 3D Mario. It isn't worth a new system for not.
Weird. I remember hearing it was "meh". And yet I can't remember where I heard that. And it's great.
The only "meh" I heard was from Yahtzee, and considering his usual outlook on Nintendo games, that could be considered praise.Weird. I remember hearing it was "meh". And yet I can't remember where I heard that.
Oh well. Here's me looking for a sale now! After I move. And expenses. Etc.
Fair enough. I don't pay attention to his reviews much anymore since he trashed Valkyria Chronicles, which I absolutely loved. He also seems to have absolutely zero appreciation for "similar, but better" which IMO describes a lot of Mario and Zelda, which I generally like. So I don't think that was it. But my memory is not very.... what were we talking about again? Ah whatever. The only "meh" I heard was from Yahtzee, and considering his usual outlook on Nintendo games, that could be considered praise.
I also loved Valkyria Chronicles and disagreed with him on it, but it was his recommendation related to that review that got me into XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which has become a favorite. His reviews are funny, even if I disagree with him. He didn't even bother to review A Link Between Worlds--for all I know he didn't even play it--as he spent the review as an open letter to Nintendo.Fair enough. Speaking of, Champion Road is fucking EVIL!I loved it right into the end worlds were the difficulty goes from meh to eh to OMGWTFBBQ!
I think you may be thinking of reviews of New Super Mario Bros. U, which, while not hot garbage, was extremely forgettable.Weird. I remember hearing it was "meh". And yet I can't remember where I heard that.

I think, last I played, I was all clear up to the end of World Flower, though that boss rush kicked my ass for a good handful of tries (getting them all in what, 300 seconds?). Unfortunately I don't think I have the patience to top every flag plus getting all the stamps/stars to open World Crown.Speaking of, Champion Road is fucking EVIL!
I made sure to get all the stars and stamps along the way. Which made things easier in the end. I missed a lot of the flag poles, but to begin with I didn't realize I needed them until later. I was able to go back and quickly speed run the levels, keeping a cat suit on hand through most of them. If I wasn't able to reach the flag by the standard means, I would just put on the cat suit (which for those who are not aware is a guaranteed top of the flag pole capture regardless of where you hit it.)I think, last I played, I was all clear up to the end of World Flower, though that boss rush kicked my ass for a good handful of tries (getting them all in what, 300 seconds?). And there was much rejoicing.Super Mario Bros. 3 is now available for the Wii U Virtual Console.
...Finally.
Honestly the Netflix app on every system is pretty shitty. PS3's menu is 3/4 picture and description so it's missing a lot of the usual lists, on iOS it's slow and clunky, and the only reason I use it on WiiU is having the whole menu on the controller-screen instead of the tv.I don't know if this is a Nintendo issue or a Netflix thing, but--why does the Wii U version of Netflix suck?
I'm specifically referring to the lack of remembering where you are at a point in something you're watching. Computer, PS3, even 3DS, they can all remember where I stopped. I can jump from system to system if need be. Wii U? Can't remember a damn thing. If I stop in the middle of something, it only offers to bring me to the beginning of it. At best, it knows which episode I'm on. It also doesn't offer to let me jump to the next episode.
The 3DS, the allegedly lower-functioning system of Nintendo's (haha), let's me do all the stuff that the PC version, PS3 version, etc. do, but not the Wii U version.
It looks like it's just a usb input with gamecube controller hub? In which case... Nintendo -already- sells that. I even have one.
Well, maybe the announcement was just that the WiiU Smash Bros. will support that device. It looks like it's just a usb input with gamecube controller hub? In which case... Nintendo -already- sells that. I even have one.
Well, the one they already sell doesn't have the WiiU branding on it. But they do have a usb gamecube hub, I have one connected to my PCWell, maybe the announcement was just that the WiiU Smash Bros. will support that device.
Oh wow, that's awesome. I don't get on the consoles as much as I used to but the MK8 DLC packs and this might pull me back in.Just to dust off this thread.
The shop has added some Wii titles.
This wouldn't be all that exciting if they hadn't added METRIOD FREAKING PRIME TRILOGY!!!!
I have wanted this for a while now and last I checked, copies of it were going for minimum 80.00 and up. 19.00 through the WiiU shop.
Well, glad I didn't blow my Club Nintendo points on those over Wonderful 101.FYI, right now Super Mario 64 and Paper Mario for the N64 VC is currently on sale for 2.00 each.
Nintendo, what the fuck? You keep a game on a string for so long, then announce the release date less than two weeks in advance. Fucking crazy.Yoshi's Woolly World gets a 6/26 release date.
It also looks fucking adorable.
Yeah the release date took me by surprise, I was expecting the game in August at the earliest with how little info was released.Nintendo, what the fuck? You keep a game on a string for so long, then announce the release date less than two weeks in advance. Fucking crazy.
On the other hand, that's part of why I look forward to the Nintendo Directs and their E3 digital event. It's not just stuff that'll be coming in some far off year, but varies between far future, near future, and sometimes right that minute.
They're still fucking crazy though. Lucky me I have no interest in that game because I don't have the spending money for it.
Yeah, that brings us up to 4 characters from the Fire Emblem series. I mean... that series was popular, but honestly, the characters play so similar outside of Robin that they all feel redundant to each other.I used to main Roy on Melee and I just don't see a point unless they plan to change his moveset. Lucina is already the new Roy.
Ryu I have interest in, even though I'm not a Street Fighter fan.
As for all those costumes ... we'll see. I haven't even bought the Protoman one yet. What I'd rather see is costumes for characters besides Mii Fighters, like those swanky suits the Mario cast wore to promote the New 3DS, or Mr. L for Luigi, or hell, even Protoman for Mega Man, and so on. Feels like a missed opportunity.
Five, unfortunately. Marth, Ike, Lucina, Robin, and now Roy. But like you said, at least Robin plays very different from the others.Yeah, that brings us up to 4 characters from the Fire Emblem series. I mean... that series was popular, but honestly, the characters play so similar outside of Robin that they all feel redundant to each other.
And Nintendo has pulled them down already.Well, looks like we've got a leak about the next Smash Bros. characters.
...WHAT!?
Honestly this is true. It's unbalanced as hell and has a big difficulty spike that requires constant grinding.I can't wait for people to find out just how 8bit JRPG shitty Mother 1 is.
I hope they are basing that decision on whether people buyIt's more that everyone is really hoping that this means they will eventually release Mother 3.
At that point they could just do it like Square used to for FF or Secret of Mana and be behind on numbers/change the name a little. Mother 3 would be Earthbound 2 or something else ending in -bound.I hope they are basing that decision on whether people buyMother 1Earthbound Beginnings.
Also, while I understand calling it Mother wouldn't get people out-of-the-know into buying it, I'm curious what they'd call Mother 3. Earthbound Later: Pokey's Revenge?
They could call it Earthbound Endings, to offer a little symmetry with the new title for Mother.I hope they are basing that decision on whether people buyMother 1Earthbound Beginnings.
Also, while I understand calling it Mother wouldn't get people out-of-the-know into buying it, I'm curious what they'd call Mother 3. Earthbound Later: Pokey's Revenge?
This is why I love Nintendo so much. So many of the game devs seem to really put their heart and soul into their games. I still cheer whenever I see Miyamoto. My husband thinks I am weird.Fuck me Earthbound came out 20 years ago.
A message from Itoi, the creator of the series.
So.....Yoshi's Woolly World gets a 6/26 release date.
It also looks fucking adorable.
I mean in the end it doesn't bother me that much, it's just surprising to see such a huge gap between releases in English-speaking areas. They're the ones that usually have to wait the longest for games, give them this win.
Have you tried telling her about twitch.tv?At this point, Nintendo's releases for later this year are sparse (unless they announce some stuff in Nintendo Directs that change that; it's been known to happen). Might be wise to give this some distance from Splatoon in at least one area of the world.[DOUBLEPOST=1434680765,1434680274][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, Splatoon needs to die.
My wife is addicted. It was my turn to have the TV, so I played Smash Bros. I could tell she wasn't happy about this, and the thing is, it's not even like she'd want to take the gamepad away so she could play Splatoon. She would've been happy just if I was playing Splatoon, because that's more Splatoon to experience even if she's not playing. It's freaky. We haven't watched a movie at home since this game came out because our TV has just become a Splatoon-machine.
She knows of it because of Twitch plays Pokemon, but I didn't know there was Splatoon on there. Not sure it's a great idea; I don't think I should be enabling this any further.Have you tried telling her about twitch.tv?
Just checked, there's lots of splatoon. She knows of it because of Twitch plays Pokemon, but I didn't know there was Splatoon on there. Not sure it's a great idea; I don't think I should be enabling this any further.
It's okay; tonight's her turn.Another new Splatoon map going up tonight. Sorry @Zero Esc
It can be demanding. Honestly, though I played through it on SNES, I'm not past Fourside on the VC because I screwed something up and am a little under-powered for the current situation, but somewhat stuck in it.Truth time. I own Earthbound, never played it.
The thing with EB is it's not the gameplay that really built the ravenous following it has. All in all it's basically Dragon Warrior in that regard.Truth time. I own Earthbound, never played it.
Department store? It can be demanding. Honestly, though I played through it on SNES, I'm not past Fourside on the VC because I screwed something up and am a little under-powered for the current situation, but somewhat stuck in it.
You know it.Department store?
Yeah, the last time I played I made sure to snag a Teddy Bear and do a little work in the desert. I've played through the game so many times now I don't know if I'd forget the big stuff like that anymore, though. You know it.
If I'd remembered what happens when you try to leave, I would've come in with the money I needed and upgraded my weapons/armor. I think if I'd gotten to do that, I'd be past this point. As it is, I'm no longer 12 years old and instead of grinding in the desert, I go play something else. My determination these days lends more towards Dark Souls than grinding in a traditional RPG. Funny thing is, up until this point I hadn't needed to grind, whereas back on the SNES I spent a good chunk of the early game grinding a lot.
I'd be surprised if they did it differently than with Japan. They know some people are going to buy both versions instead of waiting for the combo. Not Wii U, but apparently Fire Emblem: Fates is in fact being split into multiple versions just like in Japan. Sigh. But it is also allowing same sex romance, you just get special powers instead of babies? I don't know.
This is probably how my brother and I will play it, too. I'd love to see some kind of CE with both versions, though, I'd be willing to plunk down some extra cash for that.Honestly, I'll probably buy one for me, and one for my husband and then we'll swap. Assuming they still have three save files.
I'd do this, except my wife is so paranoid about the cartridges coming out that she only buys digital now.Honestly, I'll probably buy one for me, and one for my husband and then we'll swap. Assuming they still have three save files.
That's the rumor.I don't like cartridges because I tend to lose them, but we're not going to each buy two digital copies, and I am NOT waiting. I mean we could just swap DSes, but that is crazy talk.
Though if they add the other storyline as reduced price DLC...
I feel like this Fire Emblem exists to piss off certain people, from including causal mode, to direct team vs team multiplayer, to the divided versions, to the continuation of marriage and children, to the inclusion of same-sex marriage. Every new detail gets a bunch of internet whiners riled up.http://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/#/3ds/fire-emblem-fates/0/0
Super extra casual mode Inc. (I don't actually give a fuck, since they aren't making me use it)
THISTeam Matchmaking?! YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!!
Man, now everybody be stealin' my schtick. That wasn't a question. Do I need to start calling you RavenPatr?
It is good, but after playing other Kirby games, it feels a little rough. It's not bad at all, but you can see how they're developing the gameplay.Kirby's adventure on NES is still the best one, ever.
Same here. I love Kirby, he's really fun and cute and all that, and I enjoy using him in Smash. The Kirby games just don't engage though. Ponderous pace, minimal challenge. Hell, in Kirby's Epic Yarn you can't even die.I have to admit something.
I hate Kirby games...
I've tried to like them, and I like the character himself, but I just found the games too simplistic.
I agree, they're too easy to hold my attention. Except for Kirby's Adventure on NES. That game was huge for its time, was the first one to introduce the power-steal mechanic (which wasn't present in the first Kirby Game, Kirby's Dream Land on the Gameboy) and had TONS of secrets to find. Some of them were pretty difficult to discover, too.Same here. I love Kirby, he's really fun and cute and all that, and I enjoy using him in Smash. The Kirby games just don't engage though. Ponderous pace, minimal challenge. Hell, in Kirby's Epic Yarn you can't even die.
Keep in mind that Splatoon is mainly an online multiplayer game. There's a two-player on one TV mode, but it sucks. So Splatoon is really just one person at a time. If you're planning to play as a family together, Mario Kart 8 is the better choice. The Lego games are definitely great kids games. Super Mario 3D World is great, too.So my wife and I are planning on getting a WiiU for this Christmas... I've been eyeing their new MarioKart 8 bundle, as that was gonna be a must-buy. Another one for me would be Splatoon.
Folks with families, any games that kids enjoy? Might be picking up some Lego games - Jurassic World would be a hit with my daughter.
Stop making me want it, Dei!Super Mario Maker can be hilarious, my son and I were building levels for each other and my husband was wondering why we kept yelling while he was in the shower. My son is 13 though.
I'm glad this game doesn't have voice chat--my wife spends most of the time cursing her teammates.I want Splatoon so I can smack the HELL out of my sister, who's been talking this game up to me for weeks.
It's a sibling thing.
I bought it (bye Godzilla). I promise to check out your level tonight and I'll put up a screenshot of the one I uploaded so you can follow me too.If you do buy it, here's one of my course IDs, I think from there you can just follow me and see everything I upload.
I set it on the charger now and then to go change the laundry.Your gamepad lasts 5 hours?!
Also, I think I have 6 levels uploaded right now. So just follow me once you go to that link and you can see anything I upload.
Maybe she should play my levels--compared to yours, they're pretty easy. I tried the Bowser's Hammer one many times before I had to make dinner.Geek and Sundry played my linked level on their Super Mario Maker stream! The first attempt went as hilariously as you'd expect.
My daughter asked me to make an easy level.
I made a flat ground with Lakitus throwing nothing but stars.
She got mad.
Shake a Bowser.Did a 100-man on Normal. Some of these levels are garbage that you just gotta skip, some of them feel like fun Mario levels, and then some of them are genius.
Not sure it was worth it for the Ness mushroom . The game said I have all the level-building supplies, but there's still a row empty and I've seen people's levels have Bowser Jr or sideways springs or some other things, so I feel like there are still more tools I need to unlock.
I had to shake everything after that, and I'm glad. Much of the stuff I felt was missing is actually in the game! You have been shaking items on your cursor to change them into other things right?
Don't. It's easy to lose track of time while making levels, so I haven't gotten more than five hours of sleep a night since I got this game.Man you guys are making me want to get a wiiU.
Do you actually have the game Poe? Why haven't I seen any of your works of art yet?!So where do I input people's codes to play their stuff?
I just got it yesterday. Uploaded a test coarse just to see how uploading works, but it's really nothing special. Going to learn how all this stuff works before I start sharing my levels.Do you actually have the game Poe? Why haven't I seen any of your works of art yet?!
On another note, I was trying to make a parkour course for my son, but since I suck at video game parkour and I had to be able to beat it to upload it, it's too easy (at least I think so [emoji14])

Even just being able to add sub zones of a different map type would be great.I want that added, and I want to be able to add water to a land map. :/
FYI your name isn't enough to be friends on the Wii U; as with 3DS, we need your friend code.crcovar is my Nintendo Id if anyone wants to friend me. Now if you all will excuse me these Mario levels aren't going to make themselves.
Ugh. Really?FYI your name isn't enough to be friends on the Wii U; as with 3DS, we need your friend code.
You should be able to grab it from the Friends menu. Or if I could find the often-repeated friend code list for Halforums, you could just plug in ours and we'd get the friend requests .Ugh. Really?
^She's right. I didn't try putting in the name; I just went to register and saw that it still requested Nintendo Network code, but typing in the name is just as good.No.... Just his name. Unless you have some weird mutant Wii U.
If it makes you feel better, you were correct before Nintendo started doing Nintendo network IDs^She's right. I didn't try putting in the name; I just went to register and saw that it still requested Nintendo Network code, but typing in the name is just as good.
Thanks, Dei.
Well, you can do that on a local level, each "World" of 4 is playable in a string starting with 3 lives.I'm trying to build a level a day. I really like today's so far. I'm having fun with my day 2 items.
More than tiered power ups I wish there was a mode that let you string levels and lives together.
Those are my preference overall as well, and I think later on those will become the levels that get attention. Right now, with the tools having been in people's hands for only a week, it's a lot of enemy spam and "don't move" levels where the level plays itself. So, the two opposite ends of the difficulty spectrum. If a level's hard, I want it to be designed that way, not just a mess. At the same time, an easy level should be more like, you could do it in one shot if you're careful, but if you rush you're going to screw up.I think if I had a Wii U, I'd want to make levels more akin to classic mario levels. I've watched a lot of videos on mario maker, and there's this huge focus on X-TREEMEE LEVEL MAKING, with 100 goombas being shoved down your throat. I dunno, I'd want to make something a bit more accessible.
I mean, they exist, but Nintendo's search tool is crap/non-existent.I think if I had a Wii U, I'd want to make levels more akin to classic mario levels. You don't have to wait each day if you don't want to. Once it announces there will be a delivery tomorrow, just put down enough blocks and they'll deliver the new tools early.[DOUBLEPOST=1442682839,1442682537][/DOUBLEPOST]I'm trying to build a level a day. Yep that was the smartest last minute patch Nintendo has ever done. You don't have to wait each day if you don't want to. Once it announces there will be a delivery tomorrow, just put down enough blocks and they'll deliver the new tools early.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, that'd be good. Searching for a person's username would also be cool, instead of having to find one of their levels by luck or number first, and then checking out their stuff.I mean yes, but it would be nice if people could tag their levels or SOMETHING
The time limit never became an issue for me. Only big trouble spot I had was using the star against the thwomps; I couldn't get either star to last through them, so it came down to letting them chop off my big Mario form as the only means of reaching the door on the far end.If you guys could try this one and tell me if there's anything I should adjust? Especially time limit wise.
"GOOD!" Don't patronize me, I only died there twice.Fine, fine, fine! Here, mock my dumb levels.
7D2E-0000-0053-2D3E
No.
I mean, you aren't supposed to use the star to get through the Thwomp. There's a better way. I might get rid of the power ups.The time limit never became an issue for me. Are we able to edit them once they're online without losing the play totals/stars? Or are we just uploading them as "new" stages?
Oh, I didn't see another way. Running on the tops of them got me killed . Though I don't see how else you'd get through the dry bones. If there's a puzzle aspect to either of those parts, it went over my head.I mean, you aren't supposed to use the star to get through the Thwomp. There's a better way. Yeah, I'm going to delete it and reupload, I'm trying to tweak the timer mostly. Do you remember how long it took you to beat?
I wonder how many found the secret at the beginning of the level."GOOD!" Don't patronize me, I only died there twice.
.
I'd keep the star, but if you can't be big then you'd have to find the right way through the Thwomps. Attempts? I think four. As for how much time was left on the timer, I don't know. More than 10 seconds definitely. Again, I never worried about the time, it didn't seem to be an issue, and I think you're already at the lowest time. Perhaps if I'd had to find another way through the thwomps it would've taken me longer. Too bad there's no way to send demo versions between Friends on the Wii U.
You gotta stop that. You can't let him become that person.I'm just sitting here watching my son make an automatic course today.
People think those are so great. While some of them show some impressive item reactions, most are boring as hell. I had one today that was just three skull rafts that led to a spring and the level's end. It felt like forever. A bad forever. You gotta stop that. You can't let him become that person.
I played some Mario Maker today.
I don't know if I can wait until Christmas to buy a Wii U and this game. It's the best thing.
I was not patient, I unlocked everything on the first day.SMB3 unlocks for me tomorrow, then I'm going on vacation for a week. I need to start thinking of an opus for when I get back. I love this "game" I'm going to miss it.
What is it with you?I was not patient, I unlocked everything on the first day.

You probably have every Pokémon, too. Don't you?
