[TV] Winter HAS COME! - A Game of Thrones

Spoilers for Storm of Swords
I keep speculating in my head on what will happen next after this book in terms of reports and news being brought to Tywin Lannister, and then remembering that's not going to happen anymore. It's so strange to have one of the few dominating figureheads of the first three books be suddenly gone.

I thought it was brilliantly done. I was like... DID I JUST READ THAT. The Red Keep is simply not a place I'd want to live.

Oh, it was absolutely brilliant and I'm so glad Tyrion was the one to do it. It just kind of feels like the only person besides Eddard Stark who would've actually made a decent king is dead now, and only the children remain to scurry around Westoros, unchecked. Tywin was a complete asshole, but he had a firm hand on things and was looking to ending the war. Tommen is nothing without Tywin behind him and I can see shit hitting the fan big time. You hit the end of Storm and think "No wonder the title of the next book is A Feast for Crows."

I doubt my resolve will remain long--I'll probably be reading book 4 by the end of the month.

Sadly, I think the next two books are a clear notch lower than the first 3 books. They feel bloated and awkward. It does pick up by the end of the 5th book however..... but it's a lot of.

So far my dreaded chapters have been:

Book 1: Sansa.
Book 2. Sansa.
Book 3: Bran (although once I realized which tournament Meera's story was about, I wanted to hear WAY more about that than she told Bran).

Considering the original intent of a 5-year gap and what's going on at the end of book 3, I can see what you mean. I'll deal with it. Hell, maybe it'll help me keep the chapter-a-day discipline that you had for book 5.

Which was very hard when you finished a slow Daenarys chapter... only to see tomorrow you'll be treated to an even worse Bran chapter.

Oh god, don't say that. I said that about robert Jordan and then it happened. It must have been my words that did him in.
Ironically (and morbidly) the anticipation of his impending death actually got Jordan to start trying to get things wrapped up, and things started "happening" again after entire books full of detailed descriptions of the embroidered lace edging of various clothes. I dare say that if Jordan hadn't gotten sick, Wheel of Time might never have clawed its way out of the pit of suck it had sunk into in the middle books.

Sort of like how ST:TNG didn't get reliably good until after Gene Roddenberry died.

If GRRM dies they will hire Brandon Sanderson to finish the books and they will be better than the original author's work.

Last weeks was a little weak, relative to the rest of the series anyway. Last night's was another top notch episode though. I do find that they are plowing through all the stuff with the Greyjoys incredibly quickly. I don't remember it moving this fast in the books.
If I recall correctly, Balon doesn't actually send out his ships until after Renly's death.

They are condensing a lot of stuff for the sake of cramming it all in. They cut a lot out of Arya's story, for example. Though they are adding on to Renly's story, probably for audience clarity, since some people still won't admit that certain things were alluded to in the books. ;)

Good episode. Tyrion is masterful, Brienne is huuuge, Balon is incredible, Margeary is great, and Cersei is wicked.

The Rainbow guard didn't have Rainbow cloaks though, they each had a different color. Maybe we'll see that next time. Brienne did have a blue one didn't she?

Yeah they had rainbow cloaks.

Maybe they thought it was a bit over the top what with Renly being for-real gay in the series...?
