What are you playing?

Um... there are no random battles in Ni No Kuni.
He probably means how many enemies chase after you. I can only vouch from watching though; my wife's the one playing it ... or was. Then I got her Animal Crossing and I have a feeling if I ever want to see how the story progresses, I'm going to have to start my own Ni No Kuni save file and do it myself.

---

Decided to take a glance at my 3DS activity log out of curiosity ... it's amazing to me some of my patterns with things, such as the games I haven't touched since I beat them, or the games I claim to love, yet I've had for almost a year and only played 10 hours of, vs games I played 30 hours of within a couple weeks of getting them. It made me decide to pick up Kid Icarus Uprising again, because I adore that game and it's bizarre I've played so little of it despite it being one of the first games I got for my 3DS. Not only that, I think I've played more multiplayer than single player, so I decided to progress the story.

There's a ... "twist", much as it can be called one for a game with such a shallow plot.

Medusa goes bye-bye at a stage that pretends to be the finale, and then Hades is the bad guy. I honestly thought Dark Pit would take up the antagonist role, but it looks like he's going to be this game's Vegeta.

With that rock to my system, it's either time for some multiplayer (I hope some people are still playing this) or maybe dive back to Shin Megami Tensei IV. Either way, I can get my ass kicked, yay!

Spent my $30 credit from Nintendo going toward Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. The game itself is much more forgiving than the demo, guiding you through each step. Combat works well and there's an alternate lower screen mode that lets you use items via a touch and not just the awkward L + A and Y menu.

I haven't hunted a big monster yet, but I'm getting there. This is more my kind of game to just sit and dwell in, harvesting materials towards other goals. It's fun and the 50 minute time limit is much more forgiving for quests than the 20 minutes given in the demo (not that I need it for gathering mushrooms). While not having online options is disappointing, I don't really think I need it. It's the kind of game I can have fun in alone.

Also: online Kid Icarus, I am a god so long as my opponent isn't from Japan. Online Luigi's Mansion, fucking unstable. I'm pretty much stuck playing with my wife and cousins if I ever want to do the multiplayer anymore.

Sleeping Dogs: GTA meets Hong Kong, with the twist that you're an undercover cop. It's fairly well done. So far the story is a little dry, but it's still compelling. The thing I like is that they have a pretty in depth martial arts system, and so far I havent seen a single gun (although I know they are in the game). It's best played with a controller, and it feels pretty clean. My only complaint so far is that the city doesn't feel as alive as it does in a GTA game. There aren't roving enemy factions that will light you up. The undercover cop twist is great though, you have to be really careful to not kill civilians, although technically they only penalize you the equivalent of three property damage charges (a person in china apparently = 3 light poles.)

Metro Last Light: this game looks fantastic. The factions are dark and compelling. Sadly though my system has problems running it, so I can't give it a good review as yet.

My boys haven't put Monster Hunter 3 on their 3DSXLs since the day it released. They're getting their money's worth for sure.

Sleeping Dogs is one of my top 10 favorite games of the last few years.

What does it say about me that I read Necronic's description of Sleeping Dogs and immediately thought to myself, "I can't kill bystanders willy nilly? Screw that! I'm never playing this game!"

You can, you just get slightly penalized for it. You are supposed to be a cop, afterall. I also thought the story was great. It did a good job of portraying the split loyalties Wei Shen felt between loyalty to his gang and his duty as an officer.

Still enjoying Ni No Kuni. Kind of wish the AI was a bit smarter or I had a bit more customization in their Tactics, though. If you're out of MP and I don't want to waste a coffee on you, swap out the Familiar with 10 physical attack for something a little beefier. :/

Yeah, your partner AI is pretty stupid. It would be nice if you could set their spell casting a little better. It gives you a bit of control by setting their behaviors, but I still always felt like they were dumping mana far faster than they needed to be, and picking the worst possible familiar.

Definitely. Esther always uses her bird, which is fine as it's a magic powerhouse, but then she spams spells and is out of mana 5 fights into a dungeon, while Swaine does nothing but send in physical auto-attackers (which is fine for him, I guess, he barely has any mana at almost level 30). They're pretty good about not dying most of the time, but I guess the only other thing is they're ravenous for the Golden hp/limit break mote, and tend to not swap familiars before one runs out of stamina completely.

All in all, though they're just minor issues. The game's a ton of fun and sometimes I just stop and pan the camera around to look at the world. 17 hours in and I feel like there's still so much more to do.

Did you get the high definition texture pack they released as free DLC? They did an amazing job of porting it to PC, and releasing the high resolution textures for those of us that don't want to be held back by console standards.

I'd like to keep them both. Gilgamesh is a great member of the forums. He disagrees with me as much as he agrees with me, but he's generally upfront and honest about it. He also contributes good content and insights.

Also, his unresolved sexual tension with Charlie is a delight to watch.

drifter - Yes, my second marriage is in it's 11th year.
Jay - Hey man, I feel EXACTLY the same way. I haven't played a Co-Op game in over a year now.
bhamv3 - But what about my unresolved sexual tension with you? :awesome:

Currently playing:
WoW - Very little again, waiting for 5.4 to blow up in the next patch.
Awesomenauts - Play enough to keep myself in League 2 and stay sharp. New patch coming going to have alot of rebalancing.
Red Dead Redemption - Really been taking my time with this game, playing 2-3 missions per session. I'm finally at the
Marston Farm missions and I'm so very happy the game didn't end when he got home. I'm very thoroughly enjoying helping my wife and raising my son. It's like playing through an ending in itself.

Now I was playing an RPG or a casual game as my 4th game but I've already beaten Evoland so now I'm at a loss as to what I'm going to play next. The STEAM sale picked me up some interesting titles such as Walking Dead but for some reason, a game that's never enticed me before is starting to look interesting. I've been considering trying out Civ 5 but I've never really been one for strategy games...

... you could play BLOOD BOWL!

I've been thinking it might be time to get back into League, it's been like 7 months.

Anyway, I've been playing a bunch of Saint's Row the Third. It's pretty fantastic.

I made a hugely overweight, well-dressed "made man" for my character. And gave him the zombie voice. It was epic on so many levels.

I made a black girl witch a chica accent who struts around town in a classy suit and dual weilding handguns. Although I fight melee whenever reasonable because it is goddamn incredible.

Just wait till you get Apocofists. You might never need a gun again.
