Path of Exile
I played this back when it was in open beta, and it just didn't click with me. The giant passive skill tree (1300 skills?!) was daunting, and the beginning of the game just didn't seem all that fun.
I gave it another try, took the time to explore that skill tree and plan out what I wanted to go down, and decided I was going to give it a solid 30 minutes to see if it could grab me. When you first begin, you can't do shit, and you feel weak and helpless. Without my knowledge, 30 minutes turned into 4 hours, I had crafted some really fun skills to use and gained a few of the passives I was looking for, and now I was slaying monsters with the best of them. If you liked Diablo 2, you really need to give this game a try. And it's free! Hella fun.
Guacamelee
I gained a magic luchadore mask, learned some super combos from a chicken, and gained some special powers from the king of goats. This game is amazing, you NEED to play it. Right now, go! Metroidvania in the truest sense, you explore around for secrets, gain new wrestling moves that allow you to gain access to new areas, navigate through some tight and really inventive platforming all while suplexing attacking skeletons and throwing enemies into other enemies. The art style and soundtrack are both great, which is just a huge plus to an already great game. It even has 2-player co-op, but unfortunately because it is made by a small indie developer, they were not able to include online multiplayer. Local only, which is a bummer. But the PC port does support fully remappable keys as well as full mod ability.
