What are you playing?

I tried replicating this one, couldn't get it to work right. The thing goes out of control fairly quickly usually, and I can't figure out how they hooked the bombs to the decouplers without using grabby claws.

Huh. Thing this IS hard to figure out.

Going to admit, playing as the monster is Hella fun.
I'm just ripping into hunter teams. Tonight I didn't even evolve in one game, just kept leading them around in circles because I could until they eventually killed me.

Another funny bit:

I love the share function on the PS4. Just save the last 15 minutes with a couple button presses, trim it later, upload.

That's not really hiding in plain sight... that's hiding behind some crates.

My character even at stage 1 is at least 10 times a hunter's bulk. If any one of them had turned my direction, they'd have seen me. Instead they kept their eyes on my footprints and kept running.

Though I can't entirely blame them. Even the dog ran right past and it's supposed to hone in on me no matter what.

Currently playing some more Minecraft. Been building the third wall for the Guardian farm, and have expanded the storage system. You can fill a chest with prismarine shards in about 30 mins, along with a double chest of fish in about the same time.

Also picked up Seven Days to Die during the holiday steam sale and have finally started to get into it. Still alpha, but fun with the Zeds. I like to make them not forget, and not make them run ever as I like the old 'Romero' type of zeds. I like it better than most of the zombie games other than LFD, and WD.

It counts as in plain sight because he becomes completely visible without physically moving anything other than the observer. That's the definition of that term. If I put cheese in the tub, it's still in plain sight even if the mouse has to climb over the edge of the tub to see it - which is 20+ times his height. It becomes not in plain sight if I cover the cheese with a lid or make it go invisible with a cloaking device or something.

Alright, now that I've sunk in several, several hours of Evolve myself, here's my mini review:

First off, the monster is everything I hoped it would be. You start off weak, and stealth is the name of the game. I didn't really truly appreciate how to play a monster until I played a hunter and saw just how they track the beast. Sneak past the birds (so you don't scare them and give away your position) and make sure you keep your distance as you feed. It's a real rush if the hunters corner you while you're still at evolve level one because, unless you're very good, you aren't going to survive a straight up brawl with them. I lost several matches as the monster initially because I hadn't figured out the balance between stealth, distance and when to strike. Of course, one way to offset this initial weakness is putting 3 points into a single skill in the beginning to give yourself a bit of oomph if you DO get into some trouble. You definitely feel the power as you evolve. By the time you hit level 3, you feel like you're some sort of Kaiju superbeast.

Speaking of evolving up: If you play as the monster, you're given 3 skill points to divide into 4 skills. Each time you evolve you're given an addition 3 points to put into these skills. In onder to unlock perks and other monsters, you need to fulfill certain skill requirements. For example, in order to unlock the next monster, the Kraken, I had to do X amount of damage with Flame breath, charge, smash and rock throw over the course of several matches. It actually didn't take that long and I expected far worse. The controls, at least on the PS4 seem fluid and combat is pretty easy to control. I guess my only gripe is that I wish you could climb up cliffs that serve as the "wall" of the level because sometimes as I was running for my life, i tried to climb up a cliff that I thought was climbable only smack into it Wile E. Coyote style---but this is a minor gripe.

The monsters play quite differently as well. I only have 2 of the 3 unlocked, but there definitely is a big difference between say, the Goliath and the Kraken. With the Goliath, I feel like I'm probably as close as I'm going to get to playing a Tyranid Carnifex or an Ultralisk. You're beefy, you pack a punch and little is as satisfying as charging through a group of hapless hunters and then throwing a rock on them. The Kraken on the other hand can fly, is great at escaping and does insane amounts of AOE damage. I'm not sure which one I like better at this point--I switch out between them.

All that being said, playing as the hunters is a bit of a yawn for me. While there are certain aspects that I like--the tracking is pretty cool. You can follow monster footsteps, you get alerted to carrion birds to help track the monster's position and the actual fighting with the monster is intense, but it just doesn't live up the amount of fun that I have playing the monster itself. I do get the feeling that playing with friends as the hunters is probably a shit ton of fun, because teamwork is everything. I just played a game where I nearly took out the team as a level one monster because they were morons and split up. I've won the last 5 matches as a monster without evolving past level 2 (which sets you even with the hunters in terms of power--level 3 is where you start exceeding what they can do) because of the lack of coordination between hunters. That being said, I expect that to get better once people have a bit more play time with the game.

Is it worth $60? Eh, hard to say. Maybe? I'll probably side on the "no" side, but I'm not going to deny that the game, at least the as the monster delivers on the fun. If I didn't have to study, I'd spend the rest of the day playing it.

Muddled around in the War for the Overworld beta. It has promise. It's definitely a DK remake, with some nice touches added in. Only 3 campaign levels so far, so I didn't get to play it long, but I'm excited to see where it goes.

That's a weird name for a Donkey Kong remake...

Keep u informed, I'd be up for a good Dungeon Keeper like :)

Dragon Age Origins, Circle Tower quest, in the Fade.

FUCK THE FADE.

Also, I seem to have a weird bug where it'll just randomly crash, so basically I'm saving every time I enter a room now.

You know you can download a mod to skip the Fade? I'm 100% serious.

Do I miss out on anything by doing so?
You gain all the attribute points, codex entries, etc that you would've received on a completionist run of the Fade. The only thing you're missing out on is the wonderful experience of running around in circles in a dream world.

Evolve: Think I played with my first decent group of hunters ... who I proceeded to piss off by playing the Wraith when it was my turn as the monster. :(

Heh, Wraith is indeed a powerhouse. However, I am discovering they all have their weaknesses. The problem is, you don't have too much room for error as the hunters.

I actually think I might like playing as Goliath the most.

I've never had a problem with the Fade in DA:O. I don't know why people have such animosity towards it.

Now, the soul crystal plane from Skyrim: Dawngaurd, that's a terrrrrrrible game area.

They all have their weaknesses, but I don't think Wraith's low health/low armor appropriately make up for it. Essentially, if I want to win, I play as Wraith. It's up to me whether I win or lose then, because of Supernova. I know the idea is that it's a bubble for the Wraith to be amazing in, but it's too big a bubble. I usually flash it when I've got the hunters pinned or I'm over an incapped hunter. Kill them, eat the bodies so Lazarus can't revive them. The Supernova bubble needs to be smaller, and to be honest, it doesn't seem like a power that works in Wraith's theme of mobility and subterfuge.

Kraken is my favorite. As it is, I'm becoming such a proficient monster that I don't even care about winning anymore. Winning for me is a matter of how much sneaking and false footprint trails I leave. Now I'd rather hit stage 2 and hunt the hunters. The last game I played with Kraken was a loss at stage 3, but I was proud of myself when afterward the hunter players called what I did a "performance." I should've saved the video.

I dunno, I guess I can't speak much to wraith because I've played him only about an hour. Supernova radius does seem a little large, I agree. I've played hunters a few times against a Wraith and we seem to be able to kill it if the trapper and medic are on the ball and get harpoon traps and armor piercing shots loaded up. It goes down real quick, especially at level 1 or 2. I did play a game once where the hunters nearly got me as a Wraith---I probably would have died from another shot--the only thing that saved me was my clone illusion ability cooled down and managed to take down the last hunter right before he was able to shoot. It was epic.

I will agree that Stealth is the key to monster victory. Although, honestly, a little aggression goes a long way. If I get cornered as a Goliath as a level 1, I try to at least incapacitate one hunter so they're wasting time trying to rez them while I jet across the map. Once I hit evolve level 2, I load up 3 points Charge/Flame Breath and can usually end the game there if the hunters aren't a particularly coordinated group. Also, as dumb as it sounds, the perk to increase feeding speed is pretty useful, especially if you're getting chased and need to eat and gain armor on the go.

With Kraken, since AOE is the name of the game, every time someone puts an arena up, I jump on top of a cliff or hide around a rock so they all clump together in their frenzy and just unleash. Sometimes I drop a few mines off to surprise them as they come around the corner as well. I will admit that I'm a bit less adventurous with the Kraken since he can't take the hits the Goliath does. I use try to bomb the crap out of them, fly across the map, circle around and surprise them from behind. The mobility of the Kraken is just amazing.

Here I am taking out the entire hunter team as a level 1 Goliath in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the game. This should not happen. I felt pretty good about it though.

I feel like Evolve will have the same issue as Primal Carnage. No one ever wants to play the humans, and those who do will get tired of being steamrolled by monsters due to bad team communication and quit the game.

I do the same if cornered. Hell, if they trap me, I'd rather be cornered. In a couple games they happened to trap me in a tunnel with the mobile arena wall on the other end, which meant they could only come at me from one direction. Made it very easy to wreck them when they couldn't surround me or make use of mines/harpoon traps.

Kraken mobility at its best is flying around and pretending you're playing a cover-based shooter :p.

That's really just the impression Terrik and I are giving off. A lot of people hate playing as the monster because it's unfamiliar and feels slow, or they can't wrap their heads around playing evasively. I spent pretty much this whole morning (snow day!) playing with a group of hunters. Using mics and coordination, we actually did take down a Wraith. I stuck with them as their dedicated medic. It was pretty fun.

It'll be interesting to see how long the game lasts, though.
