What are you playing?

Played Ori and the Blind Forest for about a half hour. Good stuff, music's amazing, visuals are stunning, and it controls like a dream. Can't wait to dig deeper.
Jesus Christ this went from atmospheric forest romp to Super Goddamned Meat Boy within the span of about an hour. The precision needed for some jumps and later ricochet attacks is nuts.

Why did I download all of the Ace Attorney games to replay through them again, just so I can be refreshed for playing through Dual Destinies? And I even got Professor Laton and the Azran Legacy so that I feel stoked for Laton vs Wright!

Seriously... I fucking love these games.
I played the first 3... are the rest worth it?

I loved the court room stuff... the investigations got tedious near the end.

Git gud, scrub.

I haven't played beyond the first three, but I've seen Dual Destinies, and I liked what I saw. I personally never minded the investigations, though the courtroom scenes were by far my favorite parts.

FUUUUCK, I literally bought these yesterday, and TODAY is when all the Ace Attorney games go on sale...

Beat Shadowrun Dragonfall. The choices I made, I don't think they were good. In fact,

What good choices could you have made? To put it mildly, the only good decision you get to make is...

... to kill the bastard who got your friend (and others) killed. Everything else has consequences.

It's why I consider Dragonfall equivalent to Mask of the Betrayer or KOTOR 2: what you did was less important than how you got there and why you did it. People can judge you all they want... if you can live with it, then it was a good run.

Yeah, it's a MASSIVE improvement over Shadowrun Returns.

I was just making a joke above. It's very Black Isle/Obsidian in the way it presents decisions.

So,whiles I was writing my letter to the support team of Elite: Dangerous to get a refund,my launcher turned up the heat and downloaded the game -.-

The game is really good. I am playing an explorer. Since I am a beginner I cant venture into the farther reaches of space, but I am getting there. Crashed my ship more then once into a star, trying to scoop gases for my fuel tank.

The other day I played Streets of Rage 2 with my bud. It was fun...but it would've been MORE fun if he wouldn't keep hitting me! Dude is the WORST at co-op. Also while its a fun game, Mr. X is a dumb final boss. After fighting claw-toting martial artists, fire-breathing fat-guys, robots, and whatever that mutant thing was, a guy with a tommy gun is kind-of lackluster in comparison.

This is a classic genre trope though, going all the way back to Double Dragon's Machine Gun Willy. It's also one of the few legitimate challenges you can throw as a final boss without making them absolutely bullshit.

I guess, and I gotta admit the fact that a guy with a gun is more deadly than some...weird clone-spouting monster is kinda bad-ass. Is that why all the mooks look the same? If so...clever.

Despite the fact that I'm still happily drowning in Monster Hunter, and that I'm picking up Bloodborne on Tuesday, I bought Code Name Steam. I'm ... still mostly playing Monster Hunter, but I've been playing it in spots and it's great, like in the demo. Just a couple problems:

1. They make a point about how you can now bring in certain Amiibos to play, as in, a character explicitly says they can be recruited. Good luck finding a fucking Fire Emblem Amiibo though.
2. Everything you did in the demo? Have fun doing that again. And I mean everything--you can carry over the gold you earned and put it towards unlockable sub-weapons, but the missions and gears you acquired must be re-done, and if you played the demo to death like I did, that can make the beginning of the game kind of a drag.

On the other hand, it's nice to have space beyond the demo to finally proceed into, and the enemy turns do go slightly faster now (though still no option to speed them up or skip them). I expect I'll be taking my time with this one, but hopefully I'll enjoy it as much as other tactical RPGs.

Done with Evolve. I was off it a week because I was sick, and then another week from vacation, and now I suck at it. And honestly, I don't feel like putting in the time to get good again when I can trade it to Gamestop for more than half what I paid. Between that and a coupon I have, I can get Bloodborne for $5. That'll be the best $5 I spend all year.

I've been playing Project X Zone on and off over the last week or so, and man it's a lot of fun for a rather simple (and so far pretty easy) strategy game. I think most of it just comes from the weird team-ups and the classic ones I get to use to just beat the snot out of all sorts of enemies.

Ori and the Blind Forest. Couldn't even get through the beginning without tearing up a bit.

It plays like a dream and is legitimately the best looking game ever made.

When I was a kid playing Nintendo, this is what I thought the future of video games would look like. It's like playing an animated film.

It's really an amazing experience. The platforming gets pretty difficult in certain areas, but for the most part I just love hunting down the secrets and exploring the world as new abilities open it up to me.

Started replaying Arkham City. I had no issues with this game on PS3 when I originally played it. I am having crashes, and even a blue screen on PC. A quick search shows I'm far from alone. Lots of people with the same errors. I followed advice and shut off the DX11 features, but the game graphics quality suffers (somewhat) for it. However, the crashes have mostly stopped.

Finished Ori and the Blind Forest last night. Fantastic all the way through.

My only gripe is make sure you've done everything you want to do before you enter the Volcano dungeon. You aren't allowed to replay a completed save file, so once you clear the game, that's it, you have to start a new one if you want to do any completionist-type stuff you missed.

I had that same issue. I think I heard somewhere it only runs smooth on Nvidia cards, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Here's a possible fix I just googled. Haven't tried it for myself, so not sure if it works:

About a third of the way through Ori and I think its difficulty has been overstated. It's no harder than something like a Mega Man game or even Guacamelee. It's challenging yes. You're gonna die, but the games save system (once you get the hang of actually using the spirit bonds) is VERY forgiving.

The visuals can't be commended enough. The escape from the top of the Ginso tree was just unbelievably gorgeous and the world afterwards is completely beautiful.

If this game doesn't get every award for art possible, it's a crime.

In fact, the only place so far the game is kind of a let down is in the music. It's good, but it's not up to the standard of the rest of the game. Kind of generic.

The Novelist

Neat little indie game I got through a Humble Bumble. It's kind of like a much lower-budget version of the Walking Dead games because at the end of every day, you need to make a choice between the husband, wife, or son on what they should do regarding certain events. The husband is a writer struggling with writer's block and even hits the bottle at one point. The wife is an artist who is trying to keep her family together. And their son is struggling to be accepted by other kids and wanting to spend time with his dad.

It's not great and the choices really boil down to short, end-of-the-day scripts, but it's not bad. I didn't pay much to get it, so I got my money's worth.

FTL

I've had some good luck with the game and managed to unlock a number of new ships to try.

One thing I've yet to do, though, is beat the Rebel Flagship even once. I came close in one playthrough, surprisingly swatting the first two iterations pretty succinctly before the third iteration swatted me down like a fly.

You pretty much have to at least some of the following...

- 6-8 damage from beams or a mix of beams and flak to drop the shield.
- Ion, Breech, or Fire bombs or some good missiles to deal with the guns.
- One or two Defensive Drones I. The DD IIs are a downgrade in every way because they don't focus on missiles.
- Max Shield and/or Evade.

Other things (especially Repair Drones) can make things better, but you MUST have enough damage to drop the shield and do a bit of damage and a way to deal with hacking devices. Honestly, it's the worst part of the game: you can lose the final boss through no fault of your own if you don't get the drops you need.

Divinity II. I have no idea why I put this on my Steam wishlist, but Aussie saw it was there and got it for me for Christmas. I was surprised to say the least.
I only just started it last night. So far, it's hack and slash with some boring dialog. I hope it gets better.

I always found bombs to be the easiest way to do it.
Fire bombs make a complete joke of the weapon systems (two-three to kill the engineer, then 1 to shut it down on each new phase) but they don't help much against the shields unless you can also lock down the shield room (via hacking or other means). I'd still rather have them than not though.

This worked nicely. With Dx11 back on, the game looks better. It's not perfect--I still get a blinking black screen occasionally while gliding across the city, but otherwise, it works.

I just lost 2 hours of city building because I didn't realize I was playing for 2 hours and then my computer crashed. Then I downloaded the autosave mod. :p
