Random Video Game Crap

That's one of the things I've always hated about the indie scene: the moment one of them makes it big, they suddenly become the enemy. It's vicious.

Definitely true of indie rock.
There are no truer fans or more bitter critics than indies that don't make it. There's a reason why the surly, middle aged British punk running a record store is a stereotype and it's because they are everywhere. Fuck, I have one less than 5 miles from my house... which is probably why it's not surprising that most independent used/retro gaming stores are owned and operated by 30/40 year old neckbeards with an opinion on everything.

Any Fallout 3 fans out there? ShoddyCast has been running a great series called FALLOUT Lore, which is about a mysterious stranger going around and telling the tales of the series to get people interested in the game. Well... this week, he has the actual voice of Three Dog (from Galaxy News Radio in Fallout 3) doing an extra long episode talking about the Capital Wasteland. All proceeds go to Project: Water. Give it a gander.

I don't even remember what it was, now.

Oh, wait, it was the ragdoll cutscenes in GTAV... how is that a scam, I wonder...

This smells like more rockstar chicanery. Word is they've also started banning users who use mods even only in single player.

And since there's no penalty for making false claims, FALSE CLAIMS!
Right. The person who makes the claim doesn't have to prove they are the owner or represent the owner, but the accusation means the person who posted the video has to go through red tape to prove they are legit, and it can still be up to two weeks before you get your video reinstated, plus it goes against you on your Youtube record. And now you know why Vimeo and LiveLeak still exist, if three idiots can nuke your Youtube channel with well-timed bogus DMCA takedowns.

Fortunately, this disgusting game's Greenlight page has already been taken down.

Can't imagine why.

Here's the response from the developers over their game getting pulled from Steam.

Wow surprised how much response this game got. So some points on why this game was made and released.

1. Our upcoming game "The Shelter: A Survival Story" is a large scale post-apocalyptic survival. In that game the character can collect inventory items, one being a cell phone. On the in-game cell phone the player can play mini games. One of the games that the character can play is "Kill The F****t".

2. Originally this was only going to be a part of the other game, but I decided to release it on Greenlight to see people's reactions. The reason behind this particular game is because of how tired I am of people being overly sensitive and how easily offended people are by every little thing, especially with LGBT issues. I have worked in the game industry since 2007, so I know that's how the game industry pretty much is. I didn't make this game to attack LGBT people personally, but I made this game just to piss off those people that are way too sensitive, which includes straight people. These people that think if you are even remotely homophobic, you are "hateful" and a "bigot", and do everything they can to destroy you in every vicious way possible.. So I decided to go down a path that most developers are afraid to go down: to piss these people off by making the most overly offensive game possible to these idiots to prove a point. The point being that a crappy made video game would offend people so much. I mean so offended that people will waste all their time posting on forums, redit, etc of how disgusted they are, offended, how much everyone involved in the game should die, and even getting into large debates over it of how worthless and evil we are, etc. Lots of people are sending very vicious and disgusting emails as well, and it just proves that my mission was accomplished in pissing off these people, and how many of these sick people in the gaming world there are that would wish all kinds of physical harm on me. I mean come on, its just a crappy made video game made by a no-name developer. Why do you care so much? It's obvious no one in their right mind would take this game seriously. If someone made a "Kill all straight white people game", I would totally play it and have a laugh, as seeing it wasn't made to be serious. Keep sending all the threats and hate mail though, its a fun read, and proves you have no time on your hands.

3. Obviously this game was made in only a few days, so for people complaining about the game's graphics and lack of gameplay, we agree with you on that one !

4. People are saying this will hurt our business and future development. We are self-funded, and if this game ruins any future sales, then so be it. We will continue releasing games even if they don't sell. We are not about profit, we are about making great games.

5. Of course we don't endorse killing or murder of any kind. This game was not meant to be taken seriously.

6. As for an apology. Ain't gonna happen. To everyone that got overly offended. Good, thats what we were going for. Just wait for our next game we are working on, its gonna be way more offensive as this one.

Download the game here: I REMOVED THE LINK! FUCK THESE GUYS! CENSORSHIP OH FUCK!

Oddly enough, MMOx, the guy who does Skyrim Mods Weekly, is still putting out GTA V mod videos, and hasn't made any mention of his being banned. So either enforcement is sporatic, or the banned are, in fact, going online.

The way the game is set up, it's hard to not go online. The online and singleplayer are integrated together, so at any moment with a keypress you can swap from one of the singleplayer characters, to one of your multiplayer characters in the online portion.

I can understand not allowing mods in multiplayer. I can understand not allowing mods in general in a game like FIFA, where the point is to sell you essentially the same game with some slight updates a year from now. GTAV could easily have a mod scene simialr to Skyrim, and an active life all the way 'till GTAVI comes along. Why the heck would they insist on blocking it?! Supporting the game, keeping the servers up, too much hassle? Oh wait, that's Steam servers, right? And mods don't actually ask for much patches/support other than "fixing serious issues" because they'll do the rest themselves. They....don't like money and/or brand recognition?

I can't imagine why Rockstar would have issues with modding. I'm gonna have a hot coffee and think it over.
I'm not certain that's it (though, that a game can get its rating changed because of a third party mod is bullshit to begin with), I think it's because of the poor separation between online and single player. The way the game is made, it's difficult to stop mods from affecting multiplayer but allow them in singleplayer. It's some really short-sightedness on Rockstar's part.

Not a mod; their own stuff left on the disc accessible through console. And 3rd party mods can't change a game's rating, otherwise practically every moddable game ever would be 18+/R.
