Random Video Game Crap

I didn't say you had to be into it, just be exposed to a certain amount of it. I've seen way more of BOTH than I wanted :p
Ah. Fair enough. Yeah. I've seen a lot more of it than I wanted. Content filters don't work nearly as well as one would hope. Or you get 85% of the way through an eroge and suddenly SURPRISE GURO!

Or you go looking for footage from fighting games, looking for suitable footage for use in HFA, and after you watch 8 female-vs-female matches suddenly all the related videos coming up turn out to be ryona....

I am really glad I don't know what these weird porn words mean.
I kinda wish I didn't.

But I'm kinda self-satisfied that I do.

But I kinda wish I wasn't.

But once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

Next thing you know, you'll [REDACTED] to feel anything at all.

You get curious one night, you start following weird links, and before you know it you're watching ghost centaur on slime monster porn.

At which point you sort of have to start learning to terms, just out of self-defense, so you know what to avoid.

Ugh. Even though I don't wholly agree with her arguments, I've enjoyed Anita Sarkeesian's videos. Some of her arguments are incredibly flawed, but she has raised some good points.

But it's shit like this that I unfollowed her on Twitter. It's like she jumps on whatever most popular, trending bandwagon and finds a way to put it down.

Yeah, there's violence in video games and maybe violent video games dominate the marketplace (like superheroes dominate the comics industry), but that doesn't mean you can't have them at all.

Plus, it's called fucking DOOM. What do expect? Stopping puppies by rubbing their bellies with unicorn stuffies?

Just some tired old sexism.

*sigh* And my support for her weakens a little more again. Like, I get that she's a newer gamer (she got back into gaming with the Wii, apparently). That's fine. But do some research before you say something like that.
That is exactly why I can't bring myself to support her personally. Like I said, she brings up good points about the nature of sexism in gaming in general. And she deserves nowhere near the amount of violent threatening shit she gets. But every time she tries to use a specific example, she swings and misses badly.

You know what would be a good example of bizarre sexism in gaming? The Beauty and Beast squad in Metal Gear Solid 4. Traumatized models turned into cyborgs in latex fetishwear who, once defeated by the male protagonist, will do a variety of sexy poses for him until they die, so long as he pulls out a camera. There's a lot to go into there.

You know what's not a good example? Lara Croft's clothing choices, as shown above.

Especially the recently rebooted Lara, where they're at least trying to make her more than just a sexual object.

From reddit, via imgur, transcribed to clean up the verbiage a little bit:

"If a game is a PC exclusive, it's usually because it won't work on a console - either due to control scheme, or technical requirements, or some other factor that makes it impractical for consoles. On the other hand, console exclusives are marketing decisions that exist solely to force a player to buy a certain console - the game is held hostage on that device. That's the difference between a PC exclusive and a Console exclusive."

And, if at some point in time they figure out a compelling work around of these issues on PC (or it becomes a MONSTER HIT on PC), they'll work their asses off to port it to console. Where as console games going PC is usually an after thought, especially for Japanese developed games.

I assume that mostly doesn't apply to indie platformers, since most of those make it to console eventually?

Heh, Indies aren't usually PC exclusive by choice, from what I've seen - it's just the barrier to entry for developing/publishing is lower on PC. Many try to use it as a springboard to get to consoles.

Since we apparently have those among us who haven't played FF7, I'm spoiling this for major FF7 plot spoilers. Not that it's a joke that hasn't been made 100 times.

It wouldn't surprise me if everyone already knows this spoiler, even if they've never played FF7. It's at "rosebud" levels of public knowledge now, I think.

They've already said they'll be changing things up a bit in the remake... likely to include story elements introduced in Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus. This is probably wise... and really, I'd pay for a DLC retelling of Advent Children or Crisis Core.

They're more than welcome to ignore most of the characters in Crisis Core and Dirge, though.

Please.

Of course, if they want to include
Zack's last stand from CC I won't complain.

It's easily in my top moments of any FF game ever.

I mostly want the Zack and Cloud, Zack and Aeris, and the stuff after the Nilfheim Incident. I know that last bit is TECHNICALLY in FF7, but not as well done as in Crisis Core.

Yeah, agreed. I didn't much care for most of the new people introduced in CC and especially Dirge, but Zack's story is interesting and I'd love to see him get more time in the main game.
It would also help establish Cloud's character when the twist is revealed in later parts of the game.

Man, there is nothing wise about adding stuff from all the oC stuff. It's all pretty dreadful save for Crisis Core and that game is only saved by it's gameplay, not it's story.

I think the game could benefit for having more of the Zack backstory, to help explain the FF7 twist. That one really threw me for a loop 20 years ago, and it took 10 years for me to figure out exactly what parts of the story were Cloud and what were Zack.

See, this wasn't too hard for me to follow.

Zack was the active participate in everything up until Sephiroth beats him at the reactor... and Cloud knows about it ether because he was there (everything in town, everything in the mansion except the basement stuff, everything in the reactor) or Zack told him about it ether at Nilbheim or was told about it while Zack was dragging his poisoned ass to Midgard. Cloud was right that he killed Sephiroth at the reactor but couldn't remember it because it conflicted with his Zack memories. Tifa didn't say anything about it because she wasn't there for half of it and didn't know he was one of the soldiers.

The only thing a lot of people didn't know until Crisis Core is that Zack and Cloud got nabbed after the events at the reactor, were experimented on, and that Zack escaped with Cloud to Midgar where Zack was killed while saving Cloud. That's because half of that is in a scene you only see if you investigate the tubes in the Shinra Mansion near the end of Disc 3 and the other half was in Crisis Core.

I...pre-ordered the premium edition of Arkham Knight...

I know...I KNOW! But in my defense, I got it through Green Man Gaming, so I only paid $70, instead of Steam's $95. And I also used money from residuals from my publisher, so I really only paid about $30.

I'm weak. I'm sorry, but this was the game that I got my new gaming rig for.

...which, sadly, has specs that it won't run on recommended settings. It's somewhere in between minimum and recommended, fortunately, but still.

Wow.. So... the Hatred ZPR had some political commentary in it that struck me as rather incisive.

"Hatred's short, but it's as long as it needs to be. That is, ANY length at all. Jeffrey Cuddletrousers could have shot one guy and then briefly waved his bum around and the game STILL would have been 'as long as it needed to be.' It doesn't matter that the design is shit and the story is inane, because Hatred isn't an entity in itself. It's the latest incarnation of 'The Game' that always appears when concerns about video game content enter the popular discourse. It was called 'Postal' last time. We live in an age in which mass communication has counter-intuitively turned all attempt at verbal debate into a basketball game where the teams are on different courts, and stand around the baskets racking up meaningless points and throwing shit over the dividing wall. The only way in which an individual can safely express their politics these days is to anonymously spend money - hence why homophobic pizza joints can mysteriously accrue a million dollars in donations. Hatred exists merely as a maypole for those wishing to defy the cultural nannies who want to tell them that they can't have it until they learn to wipe their bottoms properly. So, two groups of affluent middle-class people annoy each other, Hatred makes tons of money, and the world at large gives less of a toss than a quadriplegic shotputter. Goodnight!"

TLDR version: Nobody actually debates anything, they just separate into their respective hugboxes/echo chambers/circlejerks and the world keeps rolling.

Bad game, pathetically made by a company who's CEO hastily covered up his tracks showing his taste in Polish Neo Nazi groups.

Deserves no attention other than contempt.

So just out of curiosity, if it was a good game, well made by a company whose CEO hastily covered up his neo nazi connections, would you feel differently? Or to put it another way, what do you think about Ender's Game?
