Near the end of enduring Sharknado 3 last night, Syfy ran a commercial for The Expanse. Based off books by the writing team of James S.A. Corey, a decent sci-fi read that deals with an organism getting loose in the solar system and all the fallout from that. This looks interesting, and I'm acutally (at this point) looking forward to watching this series.

Ran through the first season of Halt and Catch Fire on Netflix. It's an AMC show about a Dallas based computer company as it tries to break into the burgeoning PC market. It moves at a good pace, has complex characters without lazily resulting to "horrible people are complex and real." I found myself really enjoying the show. The characters have enough positives to make you want to see them succeed, with negatives that frustrate you when they show up. Plus they get really nerdy with the science, and take advantage of the setting to play up the concept and themes of the show without constantly throwing it in your face.

My Dad and I watched the first five or so episodes and I agree, it's a great show. I wasn't sure I'd be into it at first but the characters are very engaging and the actors do a fantastic job of drawing you in.

Man, Bojack Horseman still has the best title sequence ever.


Also it still weirds me out because my name is Jack but I went by Bo throughout childhood, and people would often call me Bo-Jack.

I'm still on season 1 of Arrow and when my daughter walked in, watched for a minute and then gave me a look, I explained that it was basically a soap opera that usually ends with a dude shooting arrows into someone.

Finished s2 last night, I could have sworn s3 was on Netflix but it isn't.

I'm not sure how I feel about Slade's actor, though. He sounds like he's trying really hard to sound intimidating but all his effort goes into pushing air past his neck muscles instead.

Man, the hardest thing about watching Orange is the New Black is I can't decide who's good and bad. I think that's what's really drawing me into the show, though, someone who's acting terrible one minute is getting shit on during their backstory, and someone who's coming off as a helping hand turns out to kind of be an asshole. Only on episode 3 and I'm already pretty sure this is going to be a great ride.

That's the feeling I'm getting so far, managed to clear 4 episodes before I had to force myself to go to bed.

Also even though she's not a readhead anymore, my crush on Laura Prepon is apparently still going strong.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp

Loved it, loved it, loved it. I can't believe they got every single person from the original cast back and then some. It has the exact same tone as the movie, so if you enjoyed the movie, I'd definitely recommend checking out the show.

Bojack Horseman season 2 is definitely not as strong as season 1. It's still good, but it lacks the depth that 1 had. Less maudlin and introspection.

Healy to turn out to be such a shithead. Mendez/Pornstache was an easy pick for nasty dude, but Healy really 180's when he realizes Champman's not his flunky after all.

While I was away I rewatched all of the all too short run of Jericho. Man that was a good show, even if Skeet Ulrich looks like some unholy love child of Matt LeBlanc and Dave Grohl.

Got a free month of HBO Now. Watched all of Game of Thrones. Regret not waiting until at was all over and I could just binge the whole thing.

I wish they hadn't gone the way they did with Bojack and Charlotte. A lot of what Bojack does is cringeworthy, but not irredeemably creepy. That one crossed the line.

I dunno, I think the major difference between last season and this season is that the first one was kind of all about Bojack's journey from being entirely self absorbed to learning to be a little more of a functioning human(horse) being.
and the thing with Charlotte, well, you do remember that last season he straight up had sex with the girl that played his daughter on the show. That was ten times more cringeworthy than this.

This season was less extreme because he's already made that progress. It's more about him trying to maintain it now.

Man, you can tell the writers on Falling Skies both no longer give a fuck, and openly dislike each other. I can't keep track of the number of plots that have been introduced and immediately forgotten or finished the very next episode before it has time to properly develop.
