[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

Just what the fuck, Japan.
YOU AINT SEEN SHIT YET!
notice how indoctrinated and desensitized i am that the panty shots don't even register in my senses. I just see girls with no pants flying with plan pants and shooting big guns.

I know I'm late to this particular party, but I just blasted through Shokugeki no Soma over Thanksgiving Weekend.

It's like Yakitate Japan with fan-service instead of puns (though the fan-service is surprisingly 50/50-ish), and I think it's hysterical.

Honestly, I watched that clip and laughed at how that might actually be a pretty realistic interpretation of trying to ride a broomstick. [emoji14] (except why would you do that with no pants on?! THE CHAFING!)

Because as a Japanese female under the age of 30, you are not allowed to wear pants, and your panties must be the thinnest pure cotton fabric available.

Plus I don't think anime girls have to worry about chafing unless it is being used as a plot device.
Besides, tentacle monsters are slimy anyway.

What got me as the most unnecessary bit was the disappearing cat ears. Just... what?

Shigeru Mizuki creator of Kitaro died at 93, full life. I read the first chapter forever ago....and only that, as it was the only chapter translated. TIME TO DOUBLE CHECK FOR MORE! On the topic, is that manga they released accurate continuity wise, or was it like a best of album? I HATE those, there's no point in appreciating the best stuff if you don't know the crap!

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan

I'm into it. I like that despite being firmly in the Shonen camp, the protagonist doesn't spend all his screen time powering up. In fact, he's so strong that most of his battles are him dominating the villain. I like the folklore angle.

On the negative side, this has the anime/manga problem of introducing a species that views itself as vastly different from humans, yet no attempt is made to differentiate their culture. They wear human clothes, act like humans, speak Japanese, fight with human weapons, and follow human customs, all while denigrating humans. It feels kind of silly and unmotivated when the villains do that. I guess it's slightly justified in this anime, since there's a running theme of unification, but despite that, it's a bit of a stretch.

Judging from your description, am I right to assume its one of those series that uses monsters as a metaphor for minorities? Because the last series I read that actually made that work was One Piece, and even then it wasn't because the World Government feared them but because they see them as less than human despite similar ancestry. Also they added the slavery angle, that REALLY humanized it....when they weren't making the slavers hilarious of course.

Really enjoying Seven Deadly Sins. Starts off fairly weak, pretty common tropes and whatnot, I almost stopped watching it. But it really picks up speed and quality later on.

I guess you could view it that way. I don't think it's that deep, though. Seems more like a metaphor for otaku than minorities.

One Punch Man - It's marvelous. A hilarious satirical deconstruction of anime and superhero tropes (and some played straight, of course).

The Devil is a Part Timer - started off an interesting concept about a fantasy-reality Satan and one of his generals banished to our plane of existence, forcefully transformed into humans, having to deal with things like money, rent, employment, and interacting with other humans. However, I'm about 8 episodes in, and it's gotten tiresome. The gimmick mostly got glossed over within the first couple episodes, and now it's standard anime fare we've all seen a hundred times before. Not sure I'm going to even bother finishing the series, even though it only has 13 total episodes.

Noragami Aragoto is a worthy second season to Noragami. I dearly recommend watching the first season and then jumping on this one--last episode airs Friday.

Noragami is a very interesting take on D&D-style worship-powered portfolio deities, except they all effectively reside in the prime (a la Iuz), and fight these weird mixtures between Madoka witches and Tharizdun/Lovecraftian gibberlings. Its tone hovers pretty deftly between creepy, fascinating, and cute.

It also features a cute shota as one of the main characters, so there's that.

Digmon Tri:. was pretty good, even IF its somewhat continuing Zero 2...albeit loosely. I'm okay with this good who being tied to zero 2 but...is it? It feels a BIT loose.

One Punch Man

...okay I'm confused now. Did I just watch a show based on a popular manga, that was almost COMPLETELY accurate to the story...while not being slow as all hell?! Is that a thing now?! Let's keep it going! And really hoping for season 2.

It doesn't have the pacing issues because it was originally based on a webcomic.

I think its more that the show was made QUITE a few years after the manga and web-comic. If I rememher correctly the chapters could be PRETTY long, if Toei was in charged they'd take studio Mad's 12 episode epic and make it 52 episodes.

AD Police Files, AD Police: To Serve and Protect and AD Police: Parasite Dolls.
Such a weird idea for a sequel series"Here's an idea! You know that police group that almost ALWAYS got murdered horribly? Well let's make THEM the main characters now, they'll last a while!" Again, I'm going just by what I've seen from series one.
