[TV] The What Animation Are You Watching Thread 2!: The Sequel!

MORE DOUG TALK-season 3 had some pretty adult subject matter in it, Roger acting out because of his dad's divorce, and Doug initiating MASSIVE trauma to Patty by destroying her old house where she, her dad, and her DEAD mom lived. HOWEVER-I find it funny how they were comfortable with saying her mom died, but when they mentioned Roger's dad they said he "Lived in Bluffsberg" not just straight up saying that he was divorced from Roger's mother. Being robbed from this mortal coil, never to eat yogurt again-THAT is easy to talk about, but parents breaking up?! DANCE AROUND IT LIKE ALL HELL! Its a problem that persists even today, and I think shows are gonna dance around it for years to come.
I was always under the impression that his dad and mom just didn't get married and he was just a loser. I don't even think he shows up in New Doug, where as I know Roger's Mom is an actual character there.

They were at least seperated, as Doug called his mom "Mrs. Klotz" in some episodes without her correcting him.

On the topic of New Doug, its almost im-POSSIBLE to find video of it, and considering the massive fan hatred it had there might be a reason. Of course, Disney barely makes DVDs of their GOOD old shows so who knows.

Well, I have finished Nickelodeon's Doug and am quite certain the entire series Doug was tripping on acid. All the people were colored like crayons, the cars looked like flying saucers, hell the last episode of the series is and I am not lying here "Doug's bad trip". They fucking knew, and that was awesome.

There were some definite CRINGE-worthy episodes, the worst offender being "Doug's new Teacher". Really? Your really judging Doug based on Roger's testimony? Not say...the teachers? I don't care if she pulled a halfassed apology at the end, she sucked.

Also I know they wanted me to feel sad during the Christmas episode but COME ON- when Doug asked the judge who taught his daughter to walk again(meaning Porkchop his DOG), what can I do-BUT-laugh?

Either way, a good not great series that while it could've continued, would've also been good if they ended it on the graduation/roadtrip ep...WELL *clap* time to see if I can stomach at least one episode of "New Doug", is it actually bad, or is our nostalgia for the Halcyon days clouding our judgement? FIND OUT NEXT TIME! That is if I can find a video that isn't secretly spyware that is. Oh who am I kidding, there is no such thing in these horrible times.

Well...that was one episode. It was...less torturous than I remember, even having some good jokes and a good ammount of the spirit of the Nick show-BUT-the lack of Billy West is noticeable. Though it is nice learning years later he left because of money issues and not some horrible behind the scenes drama, I always assumed a knife-fight was involved. And sure them making fun of it in show is a kind of a bandage on it, but the first ep was basically like being hit with one side of a hammer that said "Change is good" and then being hit by the other side that says "FUCKING DEAL WITH IT!" Also Judy's nose design just...KEEPS changing, dammit 1996 animators, show some consistency! And finally...there was a random "Arthur" reference thrown in there. I'm gonna assume someone on the show worked on that show, otherwise it felt weird.

When I think of "90s animation," the first show that jumps to mind is Ren and Stimpy. Please tell me you've seen that. The nickelodeon episodes, not the spike TV ones.

Also the 90s X-Men animated series, but I assume you have seen that. If you haven't, you can probably safely skip it... it was overwrought emo teen angst wrapped in spandex and animated at about 5 fps.[DOUBLEPOST=1451581906,1451581641][/DOUBLEPOST]And now that I'm thinking about it, of course, the floodgates open. Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Batman TAS, Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Beavis and Butthead/Daria, Dexter's Lab, Rocko's Modern Life, Ed Edd and Eddy... 2 Stupid Dogs was surprisingly layered and got all kinds of crap past the radar which made college-freshman GasBandit laugh his ass off.

I have the fondest memories of Ren and Stimpy, and have heard HORRIBLE things about the Spike reboot. Also vaguely remember X-men except for-CRY FOR THE MOON! And fuckin' eh to all of those, my favorite part of 2 Stupid Dogs was the "Secret Squirrel" reboot they had on it.

Oh, 2 Stupid Dogs had all kinds of dirty humor that went over the heads of the "intended" audience. Like the episode where they sneaked into a Drive-in movie theater, and the movie was awful, and the little dog cries out "This is caca! Why do people even come here?!" and the camera zooms out to show all the other cars around them a-rockin'.

There was other stuff too.. just off the top of my head I remember a kid took the dogs in to be his thing for show and tell and at one point he grabbed little dog by the hind legs and held him up belly-out saying "Oh, and it's a BOY DOG!" and all the kids react in shock except for this one girl who likes what she sees.

Found it -

[DOUBLEPOST=1451583635,1451583477][/DOUBLEPOST]Sometimes to this day I still do the "Isn't that cute. BUT IT'S WRONG!" thing.

Boardertown

For a string of animated sitcom cliches, it was okay. But the fact that Bud sounds a LOT like Comic-book Guy is noticeable. Don't know why told Hank to go that route but whatevs.

For those of you who wished to avoid it, you are no longer safe from us. We have REEMERGED to conquer this topic! STEVEN UNIVERSE:

Ruby and Sapphire sing....why the fuck are you reading this, WATCH THE EPISODE!

Well, that confirmed another couple of fan theories.

It was a cute episode and I liked the original messy form.

Would've liked to see more members of Rose's rebellion, but then, we barely saw anyone from the homeworld side.

Looks like Lapis was also a servant to Blue Diamond.

Rose and Pearl's faces at the end :D. "Welcome to Earth!"

Didn't we already cover this ground in So Many Birthdays?

Whelp, guess I'll return to this thread when the season is over.
Meh... Venture Brothers starts up again in Febuary, so we'll be talking about that again then. But yes, this week is a Stevenbomb so expect Steven talk until the end of the week. We also have new Adventure Time in the meantime.

Yeah kinda, but hey-AGES CONFIRMED! Now we can finally move on with our lives. So is Sour Cream 22 then? I can buy it.
It certainly explains why Sadi is so chummy with him at least. I thought it was weird that someone with a full time job was willing to bring a 10 year old into her house (which is hella creepy) and why the cool kids hang out with him. Turns out he's 14, which means Sadi is probably 18-19 at most (unless she's still in school and we just never see it because it's not like we know which days she works).

OOH-spoiler talk, very sneaky.
Pretty sure she's out of high school, Barb did say "Never even went to the prom" as if she couldn't go to another one possibly implying she's in college.

On Steven growing ...

I wonder if these means he'd have to reform to change, which would end the "reforming would bring back Rose" theory.

That, or because he's half-gem, he's going to live a long, long time and thus he's going to age super-slow always.

I feel like there's now more questions than answers.

I really enjoy the relationship Connie has with Greg, two normal people caught up in all this craziness. Just sucks that it emphasizes how Steven is the only one of his kind and their bond kind of excludes him.

It brigns allusions to a LOT of episodes, Steven's age from "Too Many Birthdays", Connie and Greg bonding over their humanity from "We Need To Talk", and Steven having a fucking super power that he can't use properly yet which FILLS us with anticipation to see when he does from...all of them.

From what we saw, he can use it properly, he just didn't want to.

GREAT DIAMOND AUTHORITY-she said it, canon.ALSO-who else was pissed off they didn't show the other two diamond murals?

Steven Universe

Well, that gave us a lot of information

Now we know what the Earth would have looked like if Rose hasn't intervened. I also wonder what that object was Peridot took off with, but no good will come of it. I'm surprised the Gems created oxygen in that chamber on the moon.

Actually, we DID see 3 out of 4 diamonds. When they were on the stairs, we saw the portrait of White Diamond (I rewound the episode to be sure). The only diamond we haven't seen in portrait in the pink diamond, which would fuel the theory that Rose is the 4th diamond. It would make sense, because quartz and diamond are in the same family.

*Rewatches ep*-YUP there she is. Still annoyed their still hiding PD though.

Yeah...tomorrow or the day after is gon' be hard to watch I bet.

ALSO-they better go back for that glowy orb on the moon base. This is the ONE time when doing a side-quest may be important.

What's unfortunate with Peridot is she sees all this stuff that Steven and the Crystal Gems care about as pointless because it A. doesn't serve the Diamonds and B. doesn't contribute to their own survival, without the self-awareness to see how limited that scope is in of itself. Never asked why the Diamonds are worthy of obedience.

Her lack of tact is one thing, but her lack of insight is a much bigger problem.

Also, I have a feeling ...
that Rose ended the war by killing Blue Diamond. The shattering of a Diamond would be a big enough catalyst to make Homeworld back off and rethink their plans for what to do with Earth.

The way empire and wars are referenced, I wonder what enemies the gems have come across out in the cosmos.
