[Movies] The Upcoming Movies Trailer Thread

HOW?! How the hell did JJ Abrams keep a Cloverfield sequel a secret up until just two months before the release? He must have had the crew buried under the set, and then the people who buried them were buried ... Just, holy shit. I'm honestly more astounded by it having been kept a secret in the internet age than anything else about the movie. It's not found footage or shaky-cam, so that's a plus:

Apparently it is definitely not a direct sequel, and some are speculating that it is only tangentially related to Cloverfield

It takes place in the same world (confirmed by JJ), but the way it tells the story makes it less a sequel and more a spin-off. It's not about the monster itself, or fleeing from it / fighting it, but instead a thriller about isolation (and imprisonment) following the supposed end of the world. Most of the movie takes place inside that bunker.

Ah, my guess then is that corporation (who inadvertently created Cloverfield) did some more nasty-wasty stuff.

I'm most intersted in the fact that it's directed by Dan Trachtenberg, formerly of the Totally Rad Show, director of the fan film Portal: No Escape, and was briefly attached to a canceled Y: The Last Man movie.

It's probably been years since anyone cared what he had to say about anything other than Star Wars

I kinda like it. Except the Joker, not because he is not "what the Joker should be" but because it seems he has not decided what kind of Joker he wants to be.

I will see it in theaters if I have the time. I don't know how it is up north, but over here going to the movies is not a big investment of time and money.

Hmm... I guess I don't hate it, but it's not psyching me up. It's like my brain has already decided not to care about this movie.

That's sort of my take on it. It's clear they want this to be the "Guardians of the Galaxy of DC", but none of the characters were especially charming during the trailer which made it fall flat. It doesn't look as bad as I THOUGHT it was going to be but that doesn't mean it looks GOOD ether.

Looks better than Batman v Superman
This.

Agreed, doesn't look awful, but doesn't make me care.

Yes, and the use of Bohemian Rhapsody seemed desperate.

Wow, everything I had to say was already said. Thanks, guys! Really, same as I said for Batman vs Superman, I don't end up seeing half the movies I'm actually interested in, let alone making time for movies I don't care about.

Yeah, this still isn't really looking good, but at least it doesn't look as terrible as I was expecting. At the very least, it's made me actually interesting in seeing Jai Courtney's performance and in most everything else I've seen him in, he's been a complete charisma vacuum. Looks like something about Captain Boomerang is actually making him add some color to his performance.

Things I liked about the trailer:
  • Music

Things I hated about the trailer:
  • Harley Quinn's voice
  • Jared Leto as Joker
  • Will Smith? Seriously?
  • Looks like it's been done before.
I'll pass on this one. Not excited about it at all.

Also, Bohemian Rhapsody didn't fit the with the tone or pacing of the trailer. "Stranglehold" by Ted Nugent would have fit better (even though I wouldn't want that fermented bag of dicks to profit). Or even "Hurricane" by 30 Seconds to Mars wouldn't be terrible. Or "Young Men Dead" by Black Angels.

I have to say, that looks much better than the old trailer did. I'm coming around on it. Other than the idiotic tattoos, I kind of liked the idea of Leto as the Joker. I mean we know nothing about him yet, but what I've seen of Leto tells me he can pull it off. Worst part for me was the terrible makeup/CGI on Croc. Hope that gets cleaned up by release.

I watched the trailer twice, but I realized it was just to listen to "Bohemian Rhapsody", which, I agree with @Null, I don't think it fits the movie well.

If I had to pinpoint what's giving me a strong "meh" about Suicide Squad is that we've had 2 trailers, and neither one has given us any indication about the personalities of the 'Squad, save some of Harley. Shouldn't a trailer give people a reason to be interested in the characters, aside from "hey, do these guys look cool"? I don't want to make this a DC vs Marvel thing again, but if you compare this to Guardians of the Galaxy (insofar they're both team movies with relatively unknown characters outside of comic fans), just the line-up scene in the trailer alone quickly broke down who the Guardians were, but also gave us distinctive clues to their personalities. If you want to talk about just DC, this is a problem for both the Suicide Squad and the BvS:Title Too Long trailers. In the BvS trailers, we have yet to see how Ben Affleck or Henry Cavill are playing their characters, aside from grimacing. The only person we've gotten any distinctive personality from it Eisenberg's Luthor, love it or hate it. If I'm going to spend 2+ hours with these characters, I want them to give me a reason why I should like or hate them in the first place. "Looking cool" isn't going to cut it.

The first trailer imitated Age of Ultron; this one is imitating Guardians of the Galaxy. I guess we'll have to see if the next one imitates Deadpool or Civil War. In the GOTG trailer, you had Denarian Saal and Corpsman Dey briefly summing up each character, and gave us clips showing them in action. Obviously that's what they were going for with John Doomguy in this trailer. One immediate problem: Deadshot saying "Let's go save the world." These are a bunch of psychopathic murderers who essentially hate the whole world as it is. That would not be a motivator for them!

What would help if they took 20 seconds to identify the characters... and yes, the Harley Quinn is off.

I have no probs with Will, in fact, it's the only thing that interested me.
