What are you playing?

Ash: "Go with 3."
Me: "Go with 1."
Cyn: "I will walk the path between." And then "Damn you, Black Gulch!"

:p
I don't know the names of areas, but I can guarantee I've heard my brother swear at just about all of them.

Honestly I'm still kind of on the fence, I might go with 1 in the end. Going to wait a week or so, though, as I plan to get I Am Setsuna first.

To be fair, there's stuff to swear at in all the games.

Black Gulch is just a bad Super Mario Maker level inserted into a Dark Souls game.

Just started Monster Hunter Generations today. (Delayed getting it due to a short-notice job interview this morning. Probably didn't get it. :()

Anywho. Noticed that the save data goes to the SD card instead of the cartridge. I guess Capcom decided to take a stand against Powersaves.

Finally got to do some multiplayer with my wife on Monster Hunter Generations, and sadly her skills have degenerated to where she's almost green. Hopping around with an insect glaive ... she was once a proud charge blade wielder. She's going to need to get used to fighting monsters again since I'll largely be pelting them with arrows from behind.

Oh, and got Doom from Gamefly. It's pretty fun; the shooting to visceral stuff keeps things moving fast and frantic. Not sure how long it'll be fun, since it keeps doing the "enter room, lockdown, kill all monsters, proceed to next room" as its formula, but for now it's good. Also completely in one ear and out the other junk food game. I played for a couple hours last night. Today I didn't even remember I'd played it until the afternoon; anything and everything else about recent time seemed more prominent than that.

This is a barren planet. Unlike the desert planet, the barren planet actually has no water at all. So you can't make O2 bottles or harvest water. So you have to bring it with you, and that sort of limits the amount of time you can spend there before you have to go somewhere where there's water. But there's aliens and treasure there, so...

But there's even more aliens and treasure on the Lava planets. Here my friend and I have just finished neutering, storming, and killing the core of this drone base on the left, so that we can safely mine the erestrum deposit on the right.

We also found a couple gold deposits to mine! Gold ore becomes gold ingots which becomes gold coins which become credits for the marketplace. We each made about 17k-18k credits from this run, which would buy an entire jump drive core on even the most expensive server that I've seen. Or about 15000 iron ingots. Anyway, mining on the lava planet is a lot easier and less nerve wracking when there's two of you, to watch each other's back.

Laden with plunder and ore, we return to the SkyBitch to refine, repair and cash in. I parked on top of a gutted alien base, for greater safety from the constant stream of roaming abominations and predatory creatures below. My turrets have a field day with them.

I've accomplished pretty much everything I wanted to in my first playthrough of Stardew Valley. Currently in winter of year 3, I've bought everything that can be bought, upgraded my house and barn and coop, and got a greenhouse of high-priced fruits going, which I then make wine and jelly out of, which means I'll never worry about cashflow problems again. I also have a diamond farm. I don't have one of those aesthetically pleasing farms you sometimes see on the Internet, instead everything's plopped down haphazardly, but maybe next playthrough I will.

So instead, I've started another XCOM playthrough, this time trying out the Long War mod for the first time.

Man... I didn't necessarily think I was good at the game before, but right now this mod is showing me how bad I really am at it.

Put an hour into I Am Setsuna and I can say, with confidence, that it's okay. Basically Chrono Trigger combat with an FFX-y story. The music is 100% piano and quite good, but fairly repetitive even in the first hour. The texture work is gorgeous, but the models are simple so only the environment really shows off. The combat difficulty is pretty uneven, trash enemies won't make a dent but bosses will force you to heal every round (and as of the first hour there's no multi-target heal, even though the tooltip seems to suggest otherwise).

All in all if you're hungry for an old-school, SNES-era RPG this is the game for you. I'm not sure it's a $40 game (some folks are posting game-beating reviews with about 20ish hours), but if you just need to scratch that RPG itch it might be worth the cash.

I have put 14 hours into Monster Hunter Generations and I haven't even fought any 2 star rank big monsters yet. 0_o I don't even know how this happened.

Wow. I updated my Jedi Consular's armor, and now he is dressed like the hero from a cheesy 1980-1983 sci-fi movie by Roger Corman.

- only mine is even better/worse because of his giant copstache.

Took my ship back into Aestis (lava planet) orbit to the space station we captured there, to begin the upgrade and refit process.

You don't HAVE to "drydock" to upgrade stuff, strictly speaking, but it makes for neat screenshots.

The ship started out with basic steel hull plating, which has 50 hp per block. Taking some fire on the last couple planets from aliens made me understand that I really needed to upgrade before we went to the alien homeworlds. Heavy steel armor has 200 hp per block, and combat steel has a whopping 500 per block. It took a whole lot of iron and sathium (and time spent in zero G with multitools) but we got the upgrades done. However, that also increased the mass of the SkyBitch from 2400 tons to a whopping 8200 tons, which meant I then also had to upgrade the thrusters. Poor girl could barely lift off a 1g planet with stock thrusters. After engine refit, she's still on the sluggish side, but at least she can move/stop at a somewhat reasonable rate.

Unfortunately, alpha game is alpha, and it crashed on me after that and corrupted my character file so that I either couldn't log back in at all, or would log in as a brand new player. Fortunately, one of my friends is the server admin and he got my character file restored to the previous night's backup. So I didn't lose anything really (ships aren't stored in character files, just XP/level and personal inventory and location).

Even with all that mucking about, we still managed to go on our raiding trip to the Alien homeworld. I thought about taking screenshots of that, too, but honestly they would all have been even murkier than the lavaworld screenshots. It was darker than under a nun's habit, and what little was visible was tinged dark green and engulfed in fog and smoke. Hostile bases, drones, and troop transports everywhere. It was a good thing we upgraded that armor, as I took all kinds of AA fire just trying to find a place to set down. Fortunately I soon located a valley whose walls shielded me from the weapons of the surrounding alien bases, and I parked so that we could deploy our fighters and get to business.

I'll spare you the details of what went on, because how many different ways are there to describe running, gunning, explosions, blood and slaughter that I haven't already used, but I'll say this - the loot was really good. I even managed to detect and breach a secret storage room in one base (seriously, there was no door to get in/out of it and once inside, the wall literally had the words "YOU FOUND A SECRET" painted on the wall in 2-meter high lettering). Good amounts of Zascosium were found, along with high tech plasma weapons, pulse rifles and other nifty junk.

It was a good time, and a good closing to my friend's gaming sessions. Today he drives back home to return to his wife who considers him playing a video game as tantamount to domestic abuse.

Not as unusual as you'd expect :p. They're big games and there's plenty to do, so no rush. I'm still trying to figure out what bow I want to build on or if I want to switch to hammer.

Been playing a Jedi Guardian. I can solo every group quest I've come across and am now almost level 29 before even finishing Nar Shadaa. Companions have been buffed like mad.

I'm level 37 on Nar Shaddaa as a Jedi Sentinel. Have you been able to complete Maelstrom Prison?

Companions just get flat stats as you level, plus a bonus for however much Presence you have (which you can boost with gear, stims, legacy, and food from cantinas). Companions get bonus Presence depending on their affection for you too. So yes, companions are REALLY strong right now.

I'm... 40-41 and on Hoth right now? Already did Maelstrom and Taral 5. Need to go back and do Esselles solo at some point or just do Black Talon on an Imperial.

I've done Esselles and Taral 5 as tactical. That leaves the Foundry on an Imperial or Maelstrom. I've tried Maelstrom a bunch of times as a tactical group but keep wiping on the final boss.

You NEED a tank for Maelstrom, period. You just can't kolto through the shots.

Yeah 65k damage per sniper shot is just bad news. So did you solo or tactical Maelstrom? I'd assume that you'd set your companion to tank that fight but that also seems like they'd just get killed.

I did Tactical for both I did. One guy dropped out on our Maelstrom run, so someone plopped out Kira and had her tank.

"Real beauty, ain't she? Tell you what, you buy this ship, treat her proper, she'll be with you for the rest of your life."

"She don't look like much."
"Ehhh, she'll fool ya."

"You paid money for this, sir? On purpose?"

"Meals are taken up here in the dining area. Kitchen is pretty self-explanatory. You're welcome to eat what there is anytime. What there is is pretty standard fare, I guess. Protein in all the colors of the rainbow. We do have sit down meals, next one being at 1800."

"You move on over to this side, we'll not only show you where the stuff's at, we'll see to it you get your fair share. Not no sad 7%. Your own private room. Full run of the kitchen. Whole shot."

"Yeah! This is all very do-able! Shouldn't be a problem at all. A few modifications, get some REAL maneuverability out of this boat. You'd be surprised."

"You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home."

There's more to the ship, most of it pretty show-accurate. The medbay, the passenger rooms, couches/rec areas, even the top hatch aft of the crew quarters hallway. Needs some more work, though... it was mostly designed before things like moving ramps (which I already fixed) and large T3 generators (which would replace the 5 in the engine room and make it look more like the show)... but it's already pretty close.

What's the tonnage? I kind of want to compare this calculation to my old Space Engineers cals...

So, all these people playing TOR, is there a central realm you're playing on? If I join, would I be able to catch up and play with anyone?

I'm on the Shadowlands server, which is East Coast based. I'm usually on late at night. I have a few characters that I created for Light vs Dark that I more or less haven't used yet: Sith Inquisitor Xenophon Djoenis, Bounty Hunter Zhora Feral, Jedi Consular Rusala Arkhot; they're on Korriban, Hutta, and Tython respectively.

Mahavir Isha is on Nar Shaddaa (Jedi Sentinel); Vander'vecken (Scoundrel), Gunn'hildr (Commando), and Corvus Fitzroy (Jedi Sage) are all on Coruscant; Tarth Vayder (Sith Juggernaut), Azura T'loak (Powertech BH), and Bucky Wintersol (Imperial Operative) are all on Dromund Kaas; Verdugo Estoque (Sith Marauder) is on Korriban; Strayervoight (Mercenary BH) is on Makeb.

Ok, this Long War mod is just cruel.

20160723114605_1.jpg

That, right there, is a screenshot of my team being swarmed by eleven Chryssalids. Each Chryssalid has between eight to eleven hit points. I have eight people on my team. Their weapons can do maybe 6 or 7 hit points of damage at most, assuming it hits. And considering my troops at this point in the game usually have around 60% accuracy on their shots, landing every shot is virtually impossible. Also, each Chryssalid does enough damage to pretty much one-shot any of my troops. And the dead soldier will resurrect into an enemy zombie, which has around 12 hit points.

At this point I'm deeply regretting not bringing explosives. Look at how beautifully those Chryssalids are clustered around each other.

Bear in mind, things are still changing inside it as I "fix" the designers boo-boos (like the non-closing cargo bay ramp, wtf was that all about), but right now it is 3,430 tons, 96m long, 25m tall and 50m wide. Which is pretty close on dimensions, it's about 15m longer than the resource specs say, but the other two are dead on. The tonnage is way over, though, the show seems to think that Serenity is a mere 128 tons empty, which is fucking laughable.

Doom is getting old fast. It's contradictory, but for all the game's open environments, it feels much more segmented than the old Doom games. And each segment feels the same. What's the point in even locking down rooms if I have to kill everything to progress anyway?

I don't know which weapon to do in Monster Hunter. I was using the bow, but my wife wanted help breaking the Great Maccao's head so she could get the crest, so I geared up the hunting horn. Now I'm getting a good feel for that, but I'm not sure how true that'll be when we face something actually difficult. Even the Tetsucabra, which we've killed dozens of in MH4U, gave us a run for our money tonight. But harrowing fights like that are fun to me; feels awesome once you bring the big monster down. Especially if he was acting like an ass the whole fight and you had to break his teeth, legs, and tail.

Yeah... looking at my old figures, there is literally nothing that Serenity could be made out of that would survive being able to enter and exit and atmosphere. The only way Serenity could be 128 tons empty is if it was made out of something like Magnesium.... which is highly flammable.

Got in queue for any flashpoint tonight, wound up on Manaan (the underwater ones with the eel people). Went from 37 to 40. New gear time! And finally, this set looks pretty nice.

This is Vine-Silk Force Expert armor. Looks right: robes and armor plates, just right for a heroic Jedi.

My toon likewise seems pleased.

All this talk convinced me to download TOR. I'm confused why technology 3000 years before the films is virtually the same. Also, I wouldn't expect Tatooine and Hoth to be locations, because weren't they like the wild west even during the events of the orginal trilogy? I thought older lightsabers had a separate battery pack, or am I misremembering?

1. because the SW universe is pretty much static
2 Tatooine has been colonized, abandoned, and re-colonized dozens of times over the ages; it's even a plot point in KOTOR, IIRC. Dessert planets are rich in ore, Tatooine is very dessert with many ore, good hurray oh look it's all crappy low quality stuff. Hoth....makes no sense. And I'm not saying the other two things do make sense, just that there's at least a handwave :p
