Rant VIII: The Reckoning

I'm not doing illegal shit. I'm pretty much my wife's caretaker. I need to be present.

To me, the simple solution is for him to be gone, period, but obviously off the table.

We had another talk tonight and set up some ground rules on what's going on. Still not happy, but at least we're on something more like the same page.
This is so upsetting. I hope it goes as well as it can.[DOUBLEPOST=1490320828,1490320516][/DOUBLEPOST]Pain med saga not over!

He told me that he wrote me a prescription for three weeks. I see him in another two for my B12. I took one this morning and thought that there didn't look like very many in there so I counted. He didn't even give me enough to last the two weeks until I see him again much less the three he promised.

I called the pharmacist and I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry. She told me that my doctor is well known for not being able to do basic math and screws up a good 75% of his narcotic prescriptions because he can't do math. The computer calculates the others for him so he makes less errors on those.

FML.

... why is he your doctor? Why is he A doctor at all?

I have him trained and he will at least he will prescribe me pain meds. A lot of doctors are super condescending and cruel and dismiss chronic pain. Or they are bullies who threaten and harass and force their patients to undergo demeaning and/or humiliating random tests and searches and pill counts to earn and keep their prescriptions. And they can be taken away at any time.

As ditzy as he is and as awful as his math skills are, he has never been cruel, sleazy or abusive to me. Which puts him heads and shoulders over the pain clinic, so I need him.

Is he taking new patients? Because I'm going to be desperate in a few months, and I really really really don't wanna go off my meds. Or rely on walk-in clinics to manage chronic illnesses.

I'll ask when I'm there next :)

He may not be because he only has part time hours there, but one of his colleagues might. One of the doctors there moved to Sackville a few years ago and he was excellent. He was the only one in the practice who was happy to see other doctor's patients who needed help outside of their part time schedules.

Update to my situation: they came in and met up with her before I got out of work. She's wearing her neckbrace still from when that woman shoved her off a bus weeks ago and that seemed to help deter issues. He decided not to join us for dinner because of our "no alcohol" rule. They're both coming over today and if we keep things boring enough, he'll hopefully want to leave so he can go drink in their hotel, and that might be the last we see of him this weekend before he takes off on his civil war site pilgrimage.

PHEW!

Her father remained well-behaved today. Her parents are two of the most negative people I've ever met, but we both buckled down and dealt with that.

Weird bit--when he said goodbye, he gave us a little speech that my wife called his "Catholic gambit." She's wondering if his recent focus on mortality explains why he wasn't after her this weekend ... though he instead focused on her mother. She enables this shit, but it's hard not to feel sorry for her. In any case, he's taking off early morning without seeing us, so the possibility of the worst is over. I'm relieved beyond words.

Then we got home from their hotel and my wife purified us of evil spirits with sage :p.

because of something you did or something your client did?
They just didn't have it in their budget this year. Wish they'd have told me. I'd have worked with them. Instead they hired someone else closer to do something different (that they didn't really want) simply because of the cost.

My HD monitor went out (or got broken by the kids my wife was babysitting) so I'm stuck with only my phone for the foreseeable future. :(

Been banging my head against the wall the past couple of days trying to get a fresh install of XP on an old laptop up and running for my sister-in-law. Can't visit websites to manually download updates because the browser is too old. Also can't get the automatic updates to run no matter what I try.

BITS was disabled.

Fuck I rear ended someone because there was a chain brake slamming incident, and the car in front of me had a higher bumper than me and now the front end of my car is fucked. Fuck fuck fuck.

Fallout part 2: two members of my department have handed in their notices. They didn't say specifically that it's directly because of this change, but they did both previously express misgivings about this change, so this change could have easily been the straw that broke two camels' backs.

Losing 40% of the department in one fell swoop is gonna add significantly to the workload of everyone else, on top of the extra management and coordination tasks everyone now has to do, which means more people might be driven to leave now, which means AARG.
Fallout part 3 (or is it Fallout Tactics?): The rejiggering of management responsibilities has led to a direct conflict of interest when it comes to our semiannual evaluations. To put it simply, the ones evaluating us will have an incentive to screw us over in order to make themselves look good. Of course, we could trust them not to do that, and believe in the professionalism of our colleagues, but I think we all know that people are bastards and will tend to give each other a good rogering whenever possible. Besides, even if the evaluators do all eventually turn out to be fair and impartial, just knowing there could be potential abuse is making the remaining members of my department leery.

Do you have an exit strategy, and should you be putting one into play? Last few missives have been increasingly red-flag-y.

I don't have a definitive exit plan in place, though I have a general idea of what to do should it come to that. Don't think we're at that point yet, since this wouldn't be the first time our company's muddled through some internal restructuring. It's always managed to make it through and straighten itself out in the past. Of course, that's no guarantee that things will be fine this time around too, I'm just saying that the way my company operates does tend to give it some flexibility and leeway when it comes to these structural issues.

Also it helps that over the last few years I've accidentally made myself sort of indispensable to the company.

I'm imagining a situation like Lethal Weapon, where you're sitting on the exploding toilet seat. "We can't fire bhamv3! If he stands up, we're all doomed!"

Home PC hard drive died. Luckily everything important was backed up, but after Gabriela, I don't have the means to replace it.

I ordered a Team USA baseball jersey on Amazon. Never got it. Each time I check on the shipment, the arrival date changes. The tracking code does not work.

I wish Amazon would quit posting fly by night sellers on their site. This is the second time I've been ripped off my a 3rd party on Amazon.
