(Psst @CrimsonSoul - HIS TOE WAS IN THE CREASE.)
Proud of you! That takes a lot of cojonesI made a list of things to accomplish this summer, and last night, I ticked off my last item---the one I thought I'd punk out on. I did 5 minutes of standup.
This isn't something I necessarily want to pursue, but I've been telling myself I should do it just for fun and to see how it feels. I had a friend there who kind of pushed me into it (in a wonderful way, not a bad way), and a lot of the local comedians I really respect were there and gave me useful feedback. So maybe I'll try again and go to the less forgiving open mic that happens on Wednesday when none of my friends are there...to see how I *really* do.
But for now, I just feel great. Refreshed. Changed. I haven't taken a leap quite this big since we started performing in 2017. Fear is good.
I'm *getting* there, as I continue to learn how hard it is to get a goddamn audience. There are people who live 5 minutes away from our downtown venues who won't come because it's "too far" or "too dangerous." Booooooo, you boring shits. You're like a little, less jaded me.
Congrats! Now we can talk shit about the non-comedians together!
What, are all your venues inside a school? There are people who live 5 minutes away from our downtown venues who won't come because it's . . . "too dangerous."
HAH that's ok! If we don't laugh, we'll cry. What, are all your venues inside a school?
(black comedy made even blacker because I know you're a teacher. Sorry! )
Oh c'mon, I'm sure she wasn't that bad. You're like a little, less jaded me.

She works in a Louisiana private school. Now, if it were a public Louisiana school...What, are all your venues inside a school?

True story. During a drill/meeting shortly after Sandy Hook, one of the teachers made the point that we're probably more of a kidnapping/hostage target for ransom money. So...silver lining? She works in a Louisiana private school. Now, if it were a public Louisiana school...
My wife's degree is in Elementary Education from LSU. She did her student teaching on England AFB in Alexandria, she did a couple of week observing at a couple of public schools... it was... eye-opening to say the least.True story. Yeah I had some crazy experiences in the small towns outside of Baton Rouge. Women teaching gifted classes who could barely speak, campuses in horrible disrepair, mothers whipping their kids in the hallway, and the angriest teacher I've ever met in my life. I have never heard such screaming. My wife's degree is in Elementary Education from LSU.
