Well, there's the email I've been waiting for from my university. All classes are going online and all employees are encouraged to...come in as normal....?
- Campus remains open.
- Employees should continue to report as normal.
- Student housing and dining will remain open.

One of my friends posted about the Houston Rodeo being cancelled, this reply from one of his friends is the kind of stupidity that is going to get more people killed:

Got a robocall from Sam Houston State University that spring break (this week) has been extended through all of next week for students, but faculty and staff are expected to come in. So, Dave's boss isn't alone in this nonsense.
(As an AV contractor, I'm technically in the SHSU employee database, so I got the call even though they're a client and not my actual place of employment)

If I hear "the flu killed 20 thousand people this year, the coronavirus has only killed 4 thousand!" one more time, I think I might scream.
The runaway train has only killed five people, I think it's safe to keep lying here on the tracks. More people die in automobile accidents, it'd be riskier to drive home.

No kidding. I did the major grocery shopping yesterday on my day off. A couple items were out, but nothing out of the ordinary. Being out of blueberry yogurt isn't going to raise too many eyebrows.
Today I stopped on the way home to pick up the few items we forgot yesterday... and the place is a shambles.
No tp or Kleenex.
No frozen vegetables or fruit.
No frozen hamburgers (except the vegan ones and the bison ones that are 13.99 for two).
Most of the Asian section is empty (orange chicken, dim sum, etc)
No rice.
No pasta except for stuff with unrecognizable Italian names and lasagna sheets.
No canned vegetables (corn, carrots, etc)
Almost all the boxes of soup are gone.
Basically if it's something you boil or microwave, it's just gone.
...with one exception. They still had plenty of frozen fish and fish products.
And all of that must've sold out just today. The staff must've been slammed. <galaxyquest>"Those poor people..."</galaxyquest>

Well, I mean, anybody who's ever watched a movie or TV show about the post-apocalypse would come by that one pretty quick.
Yeah, anyone who can't understand the difference between fantasy and reality.
I'm not sure if this counts as gloating or tempting fate, but right now I'm incredibly grateful to the government of Taiwan for everything it's done so far. We've had fewer than 50 confirmed cases so far, and not for lack of testing. The government's done pretty much everything right, and the people are following the government's lead and not panicking (much). Sure there are some naysayers, but we just call them commie shills and then ignore them.
There's still every chance that things will get worse and Taiwan will also see a major outbreak, but so far life has gone on more or less as usual, and even if things get worse we're ready for it.

Remember when I said the right blocked a bill made to help people? Well, it's PROBABLY because democrats in the house added a billion dollars for abortion funding. You guys know I'm left-leaning. I have real antipathy for the right at this current time. But god DAMN it, you fucking morons! You fucking KNEW that this was a poison pill. And they knew it would be blocked. Fucking idiots. Just fucking dumb.

As far as I understand it, it was less a rider of "oh by the way let's set aside $1B specifically to fund abortions while the republicans were not looking because OOOH, LOOK OVER THERE, CORONAVIRUS!!" and instead that they hadn't attached Hyde Amendment verbiage (which bans use of federal funds for abortions), so theoretically if there were extra money not used in the coronavirus amelioration efforts, the language in the bill wouldn't specifically bar funds from being used for non-COVID19 medical purposes (i.e. abortion). The proposed bill itself is here; interestingly the only part I see referencing $1B is to address unemployment issues (all other amounts are in the millions) but the language has likely changed as the bill has been discussed. Apparently, there was considerably greater debate over whether the mandatory paid sick leave would be a temporary or permanent change.

1) That job you were told couldn't be done remotely can definitely be done remotely.
2) The internet is a utility, not a luxury
3) That meeting DEFINITELY could have been an e-mail.
4) Universities are wasting money by building big, expensive edifices instead of offering courses online.
5) It is maddening to try to go an entire day without touching your face.
