What are you playing?

Graveyard Keeper -

Emo edgelord Stardew Valley with no multiplayer.

So far I'm getting irritated by some of the design decisions, like the "red, green, blue" points that you have to use to unlock technologies.

For a couple hours I got locked into a dead end in the early game where I couldn't advance because I had no way to get blue points, until I ran through a convoluted interconnected web of non-obvious story quests.

Also the way doing research requires both science points AND faith points irritates me.

And also, why is the graveyard keeper also expected to be literally every profession, from smith to cleric?

I'm also getting tired of things like "Bring me some wine! There should be some wine in the church's cellar."
(Narrator voice: GasBandit, after considerable time and expense getting access to the church's cellar, found there was no wine there."

AND it pisses me off that NPCs won't let me do quest turn ins while they're commuting to/from the places they stand, and they only are available once a week, and they spend half that time commuting.
I played this one all the way through. Some of those things bothered me, but I still enjoyed the game.

The "make the best zombie you can make" mechanic mostly fell by the wayside for me. Once i had a decent farm going, it wasn't really that critical that the zombies be that amazing at their jobs.

Once I had plenty of good corpses in the graveyard and enough zombies running all my stuff, I stopped giving the donkey carrots so he'd quit bringing bodies.

I just learned about Roguebook, a rogue-like card game designed by Richard Garfield and I'm mad I didn't know about it before.

Pertaining to the spoiler, I'm almost to the point to start doing that, but I've already cut the donkey off simply because I have other revenue streams and dealing with the bodies is more trouble than it's worth for the moment.

Which also bothers me, that a game called Graveyard Keeper, where you are a Graveyard Keeper, allows you to decide to stop accepting bodies with no repercussions whatsoever other than a small loss of income.

Day one DLC paywalling cards and fights in a roguelike deckbuilder is a pretty hard pass from me, sadly. Looked like there were some interesting mechanics there, but not interesting enough to bite on something so eager to extort every last penny they think they can get away with.

So that day one DLC is like 10 bucks and the game itself is less than 30. The whole kit and kaboodle is worthwhile in my opinion (having stolen it to try).

The game is excellent by the way.

I'm also looking at the store page and apparently the Day One DLC is now just included in the game, so they took the complaints to heart.

The Crazy Cat Ladies are about to save the world in the Wildermyth tutorial! The original heros and a secret love child (she was never mentioned until she joined) are off to the final chapter!

See, you frame that as a positive, but to me it reads "they released day one DLC for 30% of the price of the game" and hoo boy is that a red flag.

"Aw jeez we're sorry you guys, we just wanted to do something special for the people who wanted to support us more!" is the kind of apology that makes me look out for the next attempt to sneak something by, not one that makes me forgive the devs for an accidental overstep - especially when this isn't the first game they've released, and Faeria is flooded with the same kind of "it's only $10!" mass DLC.

That said, I hope it is great and you keep enjoying it. I'll just stick to entries in the genre that aren't looking for every possible chance to shove their hands back into my wallet.

Melvor Idke is super addictive. I am slowly figuring out what to do. I’m not sure what the long game is, but I like it. The idle part is cool. It has Steam saves so I can have my phone gathering ores/fish etc while I work and then I can craft/fight later on my laptop.

There are some skills I still have zero on though lol. I will need to do some googling.

Lego Jurassic World

I've recently been re-watching the Jurassic Park movies. (finished JP 3 and might watch World 1 & 2 at some point) Anyway, I felt like staying in the world a little longer. I tried Jurassic World Evolution and just couldn't get into it.

And I remember trying Lego Jurassic World before and feeling underwhelmed. But maybe because the movies were fresh in my memory when I logged back on to continued my save game, I got into it this time. I jumped into the game around JP 2 and basically plowed through to the end. Didn't 100% it, because as with other Lego games, that just gets tedious after awhile.

Is it the best Lego game? Definitely not. That's one of the Marvel ones (my personal favourite is Lego Avengers). But once the game allowed me to have dinosaurs on my team, largely in free roam mode, I had more fun with the puzzles and unlocking stuff. Maybe at some point, I'll go back and 100% it, but probably not. The free roam mode isn't as fun as the Marvel games where you can roam around New York, using various flying characters. Getting around the island isn't as fun, though it thankfully has numerous fast travel points.

PSA: Dark Alliance is a laggy game that's basically a shitty Xbox 360 era throwback.

Microtransactions or not, it sucks.

Out of Space is terrible. Our son wanted to buy it and we each did. Already refunded and I have only ever done that once for a game that had terrible video card errors. This one just sucked.

Lego City Undercover

I was in the mood for more Lego after Jurassic World, so I decided to take advantage of the Steam sale and get Lego City Undercover. It's not bad. The story feels almost like "Baby's First Sleeping Dogs" with the undercover cop angle. And they hit the parodies and references a little too hard for my liking. But I'm enjoying it well enough.

Something I noticed, though, is you don't have to pay for red bricks (which give you multipliers on picking up studs). If you find you, you can just start using it. As a result, I'm picking up studs all over the place and have nothing to spend them on. What's the point of picking up studs if you can't do anything with them?

(Insert "Phrasing" meme here.)

Roguelike Deckbuilder Report

Tainted Grail: Conquest is terrible. Don't bother, literally the worst RLDB game I've ever played. It's unresponsive, hideous to a degree that would make James Stephanie Sterling mock it in a squirty play and I legitimately couldn't make heads or tails of what half the cards, effects, etc did. It's awful. If you like clicking on cards to play them, only for another card in your hand to randomly be played for reasons you cant' understand, then this is the game for you.

Do I ever! But alas no matter how hard I try I can't buy it because every time I click it some other random game gets added to my cart.

Rogue-Like Deck-Builder Report

Playing the Monster Train expansion and it's excellent. Even without the expansion, they doubled the characters and starting cards of the base game since I played at launch and they've added more bosses too. Still possibly the best of the RLDB. It's hot contention with Slay the Spire. If you're going to play one of these games, you cannot go wrong with Monster Train. It's excellent, even more excellent than it was at launch, where it was still excellent. 10/10

I would easily put Monster Train in my top 10 best games of all time, but I'm a weirdo. It's just excellent. I faced down the new ultra end boss today and it kicked the frigging bejesus out of me. I've never been happier.

I hope this is an ok place to put this.

Does Stardew Valley allow cross platform mulitplayer? I would like to start a farm with the family.

If I am the host, would I need to be online for all play?

No. PC can only play with PC (though it can be on Steam or the GoG version), and console can only play with console.

If you are the host of a co-op game, others can only play when you have loaded and are playing that particular co-op savegame.

I dunno if any of you guys have ever tried it before, but aidungeon.io is really interesting.

It's basically algorithmically-generated on the fly "Zork."

I don't know if you heard, but recently AI Dungeon was subject to some controversy when it decided to crack down on possible underaged naughty content. Apparently their implementation has been a bit overzealous, where if the AI detects any combination of words that might indicate something of that sort is happening, the adventure would halt and the whole thing would be sent to a staff member for review. So, potentially, if you have a scenario with a kid who's hurt his arm, and you input "you bind the boy's arm", that'll trigger the filter and your adventure would be sent for review.

So a HF Academy session would probably be triggering the filter pretty easily.

Man, you know what would be neat. That Miles Morales game.

/blows dust off of PS4

65 dollars? Fuck you Sony. Fuck you so hard.

After having it in my Steam library for eons, I finally decided to install Sniper Elite V2 and give it a shot. (Heh heh... shot.)

So far I've only played the first two levels, but I'm liking it so far. When I play games like Fallout, I like to use a sniper playstyle, so the actual sniping part of the game is right up my alley. Getting to the sniping bits, however, makes me feel like the dumbest WW2 soldier ever. It's like I'll see a street full of patrolling enemies, and I know I'm meant to find a way to sneak past them or stealthily take them out, but I simply can't find a way to do it, so I'll find a place to park myself and snipe them all. And then when it comes to actually sniping my target, I'll only have like three rounds of ammo left.

Is this the game that lets you shoot people in the balls? Because you should shoot everyone in the balls.
