What are you listening to II: Electric Bogaloo

Tuned in to radioparadise.com a couple weeks ago for the first time in years and got blindsided by the first one at exactly the right/wrong time, dunno if I'd ever heard it before then. It hit pretty hard.

"I Grieve" - Peter Gabriel

I'd heard this next one before some years ago, it played just a few songs after the above and earned a spot on my recent playlist. The acoustic version is much better IMO than the studio release, and it is a powerful song, especially since my very existence appears to be to solve other people's problems while somehow trying to find time to solve my own.

"Human (Acoustic)" - Rag 'n' Bone Man

Well, it's beginning to feel fallish here, so I gotta listen to October Rust by Type O Negative.

Man, the lyrics are so dorky, but I fucking love the ethereal guitar and Peter Steele's voice is well, incomparable.

I know, I shared the whole album.... just check out THIS song. If you don't like it, fine. But I can't imagine not enjoying that bass and dreamy guitar twangs.

I can't get the ending song from Cyberpunk Edgerunners out of my head. Basically how I feel most of the time.

And thanks to being told that there's a new Crow movie, I'm listening to the soundtrack and it still fucking rips.

and

especially.

Stumbled upon this while looking for Ghost Rider clips on Youtube. I dig it.

It's catchy but bland. Pretty much a standard beat with a bit of electronica and vocals. It feels like it's building to something but never really goes anywhere. It's inoffensive and will be great for dancing in clubs but I couldn't see myself listening to it on a playlist.

Which means it should be a roaring success

America says "We love a chorus, but don't get complicated and bore us.
Though meaning might be missing, we need to know the lyrics after just one listen"
So repeat stuff
Repeat stuff
Repeat stuff
Repeat stuff
Repeat stuff

Congrats, you've discovered the secret to dance music :p

Though for real, it's part of why I like it. Sometimes I just want music to chill to.

Armin Van Buuren did a song called Superman, and it's kind of an oddity because it sounds like an EDM Sea Shanty.

Now that I'm over October melancholy, it's time for November rage.

I've been listening to Refused's newest (2020) album War Music and it pumps me the fuck up while I'm running. Stand outs are The Infamous Left and Malfire.

I mentioned in another thread that I finally watched Arcane, so this song has been in my playlist and it emotionally breaks me every time.

(I suppose this could count for Arcane spoilers if you want to avoid it)

And to cheer up I've gotta return to this banger, also from the show

I know I've mentioned Celldweller a couple of times before, and I don't really consider him a "Metal" artist. Albums like the Soundtrack For The Voices In My Head series sound more to me like hard rock-themed cinematic music than anything else, and tend to be mostly instrumental.
But holy shit, just listened to the most recent album, and it sounds very Industrial and he definitely has something he wants to say.

Some of these songs have apparently been out there for years, but I somehow missed them until I thought, "There's that album that just came out a few weeks ago, I wonder what's on it?" Well, what's on it seems to be 8 tracks of venom unsubtly directed towards some nebulous enemy that seems to enjoy deceiving others in order to increase its own power/influence I have no idea what that could be referring to.

Pretty much since the beginning (of their career, not THAT creation) I've been a huge Toad the Wet Sprocket fan. Our wedding song was a Toad song. Last year they put out a new album and I have no idea why I didn't give it a listen because a couple of the songs have affected me greatly.

The first one is about loss and how lonely growing old can be. It's got some heart-wrenching lyrics.

Another talks about hope & peace and getting along with one another. It's really great.

Finally, the titular song is also about hope and is a really optimistic song about just getting started, no matter what it is or how late you begin. Another wonderful song.

This thread is annoying for me. I'm at work currently and a lot of stuff is blocked or when clicking the video it just takes me to the main Youtube page.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about Caamp for a bit. They're in my signature right now and will likely stay there for a bit. I'd been really listening to a lot of Gregory Alan Isakov recently and Caamp kept coming up in feeds with him, so I gave them a shot.

At first I really only liked All the Debts I Owe, it is a quality, quality song.

I then heard some other songs of theirs while I just had stuff playing that I didn't realize was them at the time. I went back and discovered 26, Strawberries, So Long Honey, and others were all from the same group. If I had been paying attention, it would have been obvious, Taylor Meier's raspy voice is rather distinct.

The clincher was the song Fall, Fall, Fall. For me, it is simply transcendent. Its message is so plain and powerfully presented, it just made me sit up and really listen to them.

I want my kids to swim in the creek

Then I heard their album By and By. I've listened to it many times on youtube and love it every time. Went ahead and purchased it, too, because I do want to hear more from them.

I especially want to point out Peach Fuzz, though. It's so fun and feels like a departure from their normal sound, yet it works so well. They have also recently released a newer album, Lavendar Days, in 2022. I am really digging it too, but have not gotten it yet.

Caamp has quickly become my favorite "new" band, if that wasn't obvious already. :D

Oh shit, I missed this months ago. I haven't thought about Celldweller since that DDR keyboard game that was kinda big online like 15 years ago. Totally gonna rip into his work today.

Western AF has some great old school country style musicians on it.

And for a complete 180, Ren has been getting lots of attention lately from react videos on YouTube, and it’s well deserved.
