Mr. Z is in charge of registration for our local kids baseball. He has to check everyone's submitted birth certificates, addresses, etc. to make sure everything is kosher and up to code. Today, we learned that a boy in our league, whom I've never met btw, was given a very literary middle name.

It's Voldemort.

He's parents gave him the middle name Voldemort. It's on his freaking birth certificate. I have no words.

I am curious why the parents named their son after a murderous psycho who's not even particularly hot.

(Ralph Fiennes is handsome. Voldemort is not.)

Guessing the parents are Slytherins and Death Eaters.

It's just so when he grows up he can be known anagramously under the sobriquet Tom Riddle.
As much as this would at least explain it a little bit, the kid's first and last names do not anagram to anything close to that. At least, I assume. I haven't tried it yet. And obviously I'm not going to say what they are for privacy's sake.

As I said to Mr. Z when he showed me; I can get literary-inspired names, even some that are bordering on questionable. Like, ok, Anakin wasn't always evil. Maybe you think Thanos was right. But Voldemort?! VOLDEMORT?!?

(PS: Because it also includes the parents names, both before and after marriage, and obvious, although different, ethnic backgrounds, I find this even more puzzling.)

Someone made an error on our oldest’s birth certificate when filed. @HCGLNS is evidently my granddaughter, daughter of our oldest.

I was heavily medicated after my emergency c section, but the person who filed the forms may also have been medicated.

That really sucks. I hope that whomever you find next is a good fit as well. There are a few things in life where once you find someone that fits you keep them. Your barber, your mechanic, and your counselor probably top that list.

Doctorate thesis defence this afternoon... it's in 4 hours, and holy crap am I nervous.
I want to re-read my paper and go over my research findings again, but I can't focus at all. I think I'll try again anyways; I've never been one to cram before exams, but this feels like a reasonable exception.

The day I defended my dissertation, I baked a batch of loaded chocolate cookies. Baking is therapeutic for me and I kept rehearsing as followed the recipe. It allowed me to focus and bled off most of the stress. The defense went well. Best of luck!

Customer: "My friend told me your company offers a 30% discount to seniors."
Me: "We don't offer senior discounts. We never have."
Customer: "Well you're full of crap!"

So it's that kind of day.
"Oh yes, we do, *look up birthday in your system* It's available for anyone born before *date that is one week befor their birthday*, sorry, no exceptions."

But I know your pain.

If my math is correct, you're probably in the middle of this now. Sending good vibes!

Accepted with minor revisions!

Basically what I expected, at there always seems to be revision for these things. But the most important word is the first one: accepted!!
