Government bans are hardly ever temporary. They are like taxes. I get where @Dubyamn is coming from. I don’t agree with how vociferously hates it as this is an executive action that basically tries to mirror the bipartisan legislation that Trump had killed, but it’s disingenuous to not think this is pissing off a lot of democrats. Because it is.

The proposed legislation didn’t ban people from applying for asylum. The proposed legislation didn’t tear up our asylum laws and effectively shut the gates to asylum seekers. The proposed legislation didn’t effectively kill asylum if Trump is elected president.

Outright bans don't have exceptions.
Which this one doesn’t. You can read it there are no exceptions listed. I get that you were trying to go out on a pithy non point but you could try to say something right about Biden’s execution action.

You can read it there are no exceptions listed.
The part of the document I already quoted said:
These actions also include similar humanitarian exceptions to those included in the bipartisan border agreement announced in the Senate, including those for unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking.
And yes, @Dave. I know that Federal Income Tax was supposed to be a "temporary" way to raise money for the government that lingered on for...well, forever. I get where Dubyamn is coming from, too, but it's just what Gas already said:
Absolutists: "FUCK YOU IF YOU'RE NOT THE DIAMETRIC OPPOSITE OF THEM, YOU HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER ME EITHER AND ARE DEAD TO ME"
Some people just need to accept that nobody in office is going to give them everything that they want, exactly the way that they want it, and learn to mindfully evaluate their existing options. Or, as that wooden plaque in every grandma's bathroom puts it:
Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.

quote from Biden’s thing that lists two groups who aren’t asylum seekers who are processed differently and will continue to be processed differently
You do know that unaccompanied minors and trafficking victims are not asylum seekers right? So they are not exceptions to the asylum seeker ban.

You have yet to be right about a single part of this ban. Is that you having serenity or wisdom? Because it’s starting to look like outright delusion, Everyone of you would be outraged if Trump had done this calling it out for what it is. But since it’s Biden suddenly this cup of piss has been transmogrified into the finest wine? Nah not about that unquestioning acceptance of authority.

Literally nobody hate had claimed this is great though?
But the alternative to choosing Biden is choosing Trump, so like all the leftists in France voting for Macron to keep it Le Pen, the progressive and far left better learn to go vote with washpins on their noses. The alternative is far more horrifying.
Biden can and will lose if thousands of progressives stay home. Yeah, yeah, senile old white guy not making meaningful change, sure, but the other option is literal fascism.

There have been multiple people defending it. Maybe they’re not super enthusiastic about it but all of them are trying their damnedest to defend a clearly racist policy. Like right now I don’t like Biden’s immigration policy so I’m not defending it.

Which is why this is such a fucking stupid policy. It’s not going to win him votes, it’s going to actively make people believe that Trump’s better on the border and it will depress voters that he’s desperately needs to turn out. So am I supposed to be happy that Biden is putting our democracy at risk for the sake of his racism and Benjamin fucking Netanyahu? Cause that’s what he’s doing.

Why are you deliberately misconstruing/ignoring the things I'm saying? Is it because they don't fit your narrative and are making your cognitive dissonance ache?

Look, if you're trying to say you're psyching yourself up to vote for Trump this November, then just come out and say you're going to vote for Trump this November instead of sounding like you're trying to rally the rest of us to come join you.

I have yet to misconstrue or ignore anything that you have said.

Where the fuck are you reading any of that? I don’t like that Biden’s a racist asshole so clearly I’m going to vote Trump? I’m worried that this executive order is going to allow Trump to destroy the asylum process so clearly I’m going to vote Trump? I think Biden’s making a dumb political move because he’s spitting in the eyes of his supporters and courting people he has no chance with so clearly I’m voting Trump? My brother in Christ what the fuck is wrong with your reading comprehension? Not that it’s any of your business but I’m going to vote the same way I always have straight ticket Democrat. Just wish that the Democrats would stop shooting themselves in the foot and maybe solve a problem once in their lives.

Oh, I'm not surprised about the results from Eastern Germany. It is another example that after 35 years the border still exist.

Brain trauma and losing empathy/shifting rightward, name a more iconic duo.
Musher’s been an asshole as long as I’ve known about him. But it is shocking that Fetterman’s lurch rightwards was over Isreal. Like yeah it checks out time wise but what part of seeing children die makes a person go “yeah I need to give this my whole support.”

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas belatedly disclosed that a Republican billionaire paid for his two vacations in 2019. Thomas’ newly released financial disclosure report for 2023 said the trips – one to Bali and one to an all-male retreat in northern California – were “inadvertently omitted at the time of filing.” Harlan and Kathy Crow paid for Thomas’ food and lodging at a hotel and private club. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was caught on tape candidly discussing his views on the ideological battle between the left and the right. “One side or the other is going to win,” Alito said at the Supreme Court Historical Society’s annual dinner. “I mean, there can be a way of working — a way of living together peacefully, but it’s difficult, you know, because there are differences on fundamental things that really can’t be compromised. It’s not like you can split the difference.” Alito also endorsed the need to “return our country to a place of godliness.” The leaked audio comes following reports that two of his properties displayed flags with links to those flown by Trump’s supporters during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, as well as by his refusal to recuse himself from cases involving Trump and the Jan. 6 insurrection. Attorney General Merrick Garland called the attacks on the Justice Department by Trump and his allies “baseless, personal and dangerous.” For the second time this month Garland has publicly pushed back against threats by House Republicans to defund special counsel Jack Smith – who is prosecuting Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election and illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing efforts to retrieve them – as well as conspiracy theories that the Justice Department was involved in the Manhattan District Attorney’s prosecution of Trump. Garland said the department was facing threats of violence “like never before,” adding that the “continued unfounded attacks against the Justice Department’s employees are dangerous for people’s safety. They are dangerous for our democracy. This must stop.” Meanwhile in a letter to House Republicans, the Justice Department said it had found no emails between DOJ leadership and District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office about any Trump case, calling it “conspiratorial speculation.” (Axios / Politico / NBC News / ABC News / Politico)

House Democrats launched a task force to prepare for the so-called Project 2025, a 920-page policy blueprint compiled by the far-right Heritage Foundation for how a second Trump administration could expand the power of the presidency to act unilaterally while dismantling layers of the federal government. At its core, Project 2025 proposes purging thousands of civil servants and replacing them with Trump loyalists. “This stuff is going to be coming at us at lightspeed. And if we are on our heels and reacting to it, we could lose our democracy,” Jared Huffman said, one of the lawmakers spearheading The Stop Project 2025 Task Force. “So we’re going to need to be ready to confront it in real time. And those plans need to begin now.” Huffman added: “The stakes just couldn’t be higher.” (Politico / Associated Press / Axios / HuffPost / The Guardian)

In Trump’s orbit, some muse about mandatory military service. “Only 1 percent of the U.S. population serves in the armed forces. Some in the former president’s camp say it’s time more young adults put ’some skin in the game.’” (Washington Post)

Hunter Biden was found guilty on three counts related to his illegal purchase of a handgun when he was using narcotics. Hunter Biden, a private citizen who has never sought elective office or been part of a presidential administration, is the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime. He faces up to 25 years in prison. The charges were brought by special counsel David Weiss, who was appointed by Trump, after a plea deal fell apart in the courtroom last July. Weiss said he brought the case because nobody “is above the law.” Trump – who has continued to falsely claim his conviction on 34 felony counts of election interference involving falsified business records to conceal a hush money payment to a porn star was “rigged” and that “this is all done by Biden and his people” – baselessly suggested without evidence that Hunter Biden’s guilty verdict was a “distraction from the real crimes of the Biden Crime Family.” Joe Biden, meanwhile, said he will “respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.” Earlier this month, Biden said he would not pardon his son.
