Government bans are hardly ever temporary. They are like taxes. I get where @Dubyamn is coming from. I don’t agree with how vociferously hates it as this is an executive action that basically tries to mirror the bipartisan legislation that Trump had killed, but it’s disingenuous to not think this is pissing off a lot of democrats. Because it is.

The proposed legislation didn’t ban people from applying for asylum. The proposed legislation didn’t tear up our asylum laws and effectively shut the gates to asylum seekers. The proposed legislation didn’t effectively kill asylum if Trump is elected president.

Which this one doesn’t. You can read it there are no exceptions listed. I get that you were trying to go out on a pithy non point but you could try to say something right about Biden’s execution action.

And yes, @Dave. I know that Federal Income Tax was supposed to be a "temporary" way to raise money for the government that lingered on for...well, forever. I get where Dubyamn is coming from, too, but it's just what Gas already said:

Some people just need to accept that nobody in office is going to give them everything that they want, exactly the way that they want it, and learn to mindfully evaluate their existing options. Or, as that wooden plaque in every grandma's bathroom puts it:
Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.

You do know that unaccompanied minors and trafficking victims are not asylum seekers right? So they are not exceptions to the asylum seeker ban.

You have yet to be right about a single part of this ban. Is that you having serenity or wisdom? Because it’s starting to look like outright delusion, Everyone of you would be outraged if Trump had done this calling it out for what it is. But since it’s Biden suddenly this cup of piss has been transmogrified into the finest wine? Nah not about that unquestioning acceptance of authority.

But the alternative to choosing Biden is choosing Trump, so like all the leftists in France voting for Macron to keep it Le Pen, the progressive and far left better learn to go vote with washpins on their noses. The alternative is far more horrifying.
Biden can and will lose if thousands of progressives stay home. Yeah, yeah, senile old white guy not making meaningful change, sure, but the other option is literal fascism.

There have been multiple people defending it. Maybe they’re not super enthusiastic about it but all of them are trying their damnedest to defend a clearly racist policy. Like right now I don’t like Biden’s immigration policy so I’m not defending it.

Which is why this is such a fucking stupid policy. It’s not going to win him votes, it’s going to actively make people believe that Trump’s better on the border and it will depress voters that he’s desperately needs to turn out. So am I supposed to be happy that Biden is putting our democracy at risk for the sake of his racism and Benjamin fucking Netanyahu? Cause that’s what he’s doing.

I’m worried that this executive order is going to allow Trump to destroy the asylum process so clearly I’m going to vote Trump? I think Biden’s making a dumb political move because he’s spitting in the eyes of his supporters and courting people he has no chance with so clearly I’m voting Trump? My brother in Christ what the fuck is wrong with your reading comprehension? Not that it’s any of your business but I’m going to vote the same way I always have straight ticket Democrat. Musher’s been an asshole as long as I’ve known about him. But it is shocking that Fetterman’s lurch rightwards was over Isreal. Like yeah it checks out time wise but what part of seeing children die makes a person go “yeah I need to give this my whole support.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland called the attacks on the Justice Department by Trump and his allies “baseless, personal and dangerous.” For the second time this month Garland has publicly pushed back against threats by House Republicans to defund special counsel Jack Smith – who is prosecuting Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election and illegally retaining classified documents and obstructing efforts to retrieve them – as well as conspiracy theories that the Justice Department was involved in the Manhattan District Attorney’s prosecution of Trump.
