What are you playing?

Ya, dungeons are dark... and I'll even say, not dark enough to my tastes.

22 more days to sweet sweet Skyrim

I bought Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion yesterday. I bought Morrowind for the PC back in 2003 or so, and I didn't much care for it. I thought was boring, and I disliked the lack of direction. But since I loved Fallout 3, I thought I'd give it another try. I'm not convinced yet. I did like the way it suggested a class, and it was eerily accurate, suggesting an Agent for me (I enjoy sneaking around and sniping). My biggest complaint so far is the brightness. I've jacked up the TV and the in-game controls, but that just seems to white things out. I guess it's intentional, but it makes sneaking around very hard. I just finished the tutorial, so I will update as I proceed.
I bought Oblivion for the same reasoning and ended up returning it--just didn't like it. Looking forward to Skyrim though, whenever I get done with New Vegas.

I was just about to buy Cities XL 2012(i am a huge fan of City Builders) when I read their forum. It is supposed to be exactly like Cities XL 2011 and the new buildings they so proudly announced are mostly the ones you can unlock in 2011.So I "accuired" XL 2012 to test it,and yup,
even the interface is the same.Uninstalled and pining for the day Sim City 5 (Society dosn't count) will come out.

I returned it. It didn't suck me into a different world like Fallout 3 did. It's weird. I could see the similarities, but I felt superfluous to the world, instead of an integral part of it like F3. I can see where people would like it, but it didn't work for me. I got Uncharted 2 instead. That's been fun. My biggest criticism so far is that it's too easy. I should definitely crank up the difficulty. I also wish it allowed for more autonomy. It feels like I'm only 90% in control of the main character at the best of times, and 40% at the worst of times. On the positive side, it has some of the best PS3 game graphics of anything I've owned. The little touches on the main character are cool, like random body movements, even while walking. It makes a big difference over the static robot walk most game characters do. Sure most do something random if they're still, but he does it while he walks or runs, like coughing, or slipping occasionally, etc.

Well, I was sick yesterday, so I played this game for a long time, and beat it. In one day, basically. That's the real downside I guess. It was too short.

This should be viewed as a model game. The play was engaging, the platforming somewhat challenging, fun story, excellent acting. The mannerisms of the characters pushed them through the uncanny valley, despite the fact that they didn't strictly look realistic. It was more important that they moved and acted realistically. I can see why this game won so many awards. Part of the reason I played it through was because I was sick, and part of the reason was that it was just an interesting story. It did have its annoying moments, too (the bridge escape? WTF? There was no clue what you were supposed to do at the end of it, and you had to start all back over when you died), but they paled compared to the excellent artwork and gameplay.

A few friends of mine showed me Warhammer 40K: Space Marine this weekend. Now, I'm not into WH40K though I've absorbed some of the info about it through osmosis (I know several WH40K players), but I have to say, that is a vastly impressive game. I'm not sure how much further games can go, honestly. The sheer grandeur of the game and the fantastic violence were really amazing.

I've gone back to playing Burnout 3: Takedown in my spare time. Love that game. Still haven't gotten all the trophies...

Burnout 3 is still the best burnout. I wish they'd make a "Burnout 3 HD."

I guess Burnout Paradise is ok (better than Burnout 4 was, anyway).... but I like Burnout 3 so much better. It just always felt like I could concentrate more on fighting the other cars when I didn't have to worry about picking a route.

I just download Dungeon Defender (pre-order with bonus) it is pretty fun. Basically it is a defense game play with over the shoulder character (upto 4) defending a crystal from incoming hoards. Each character type have access to different type of "towers"

Yeah, and Burnout: Revenge just showed that "Darker and Edgier" doesn't mean more fun, which is the only reason to play Burnout. Plus, whoever decided that, "Hey, we should make it so that it's possible to blow up your car as soon as you start the level" should die of flesh-eating disease.

Been playing Arkham City. Ras Al Ghul has a fucking AWFUL voice. It also bums me out that I guess he's
the trippy stand in for the Scarecrow
.

Inspired by the no-kill run of Fallout: New Vegas, yesterday I started an all-kill run, where I tried to kill every sentient being in the game that can be killed, without regard for benefits to my character. Basically, see it--kill it. I slaughtered Goodspring, then wandered to the jail and sliced through everyone with a knife and some of their dynamite.

It was fun in some ways, but I can see this getting boring too, as there'd practically be no story. I just appreciate that Bethesda allows you to play the game like this if that's your desire. Odds are I'm going back to my rough-justice gunslinger type character next time I play, but I think I'll keep the all-kill save just in case I wanna try it out some more.

That was kinda fun to do in Ultima Underworld, too. VAS KAL CORP. Muahaha.

I'll come out and say it, I think Arkham City blows compared to Arkham Asylum. It is a worse game.

I'm playing through on hard, as I did Asylum, and boy, I regret it. I regret it greatly. I'm near the end of the game, I think, at a part where I'm going towards where Joker is and there's about 1200 snipers guarding the area. So, being Batman, I sneak up on one of the furthest out ones in the circle thinking I can quietly take him out. I sneak up behind him and initiate a quiet takedown. Upon doing this, every single other sniper in the area magically know where I am and kill me dead before I can cancel the animation and attempt escape. AWESOMELY, this is while the game is replaying the same few Joker soundbites taunting me every 6 or so seconds.

Arkham City is doing everything it can to make me not like it.

I've gone back to Armored Core 3: Silent Line, and I'm really getting back into it. I've been messing around with the AC design feature and made a reasonable facsimile for a G-1 Megatron. As a combat unit, it fairly sucks, but I was amused anyway.

Been playing Rage... I'm surprised how decent it is. I thought it was going to be shit on a stick... it's not.

It looks, feels exactly like Borderlands though. I do however enjoy the races/driving a lot however. It's a decent game and the new engine has a lot of promise. Loosum Hagar daaaaaamn. The game is a good play and I recommend it to others.

Basically killing time till this weekend....

This is honestly the only Armored Core I ever finished. I could never beat AC3 because of that AC in the level where you had to run through the cannon... the tiny one that had a shitload of grenades for some reason.

Inbetween WoW sessions I've FINALLY picked up an OOOOLD game I've always wanted to take a stab at:

F.E.A.R. the Platinum Edition. So far? Freaking loving every second.

The original F.E.A.R. is on my to-buy list. I've never played it, but it looks interesting enough.

It was actually watching Jesse Cox play Co-Op with Trish in FEAR3 that made me finally remember to go get the first game. I'm really glad I did.

As for the expansions no longer being "canon"? Not sure what that means as I'm barely an hour or so into the first FEAR.

They'll have no bearing on the overarching plot of the FEAR series... basically some really stupid things happen in them, so FEAR 2 begins with the assumption they didn't happen. If your not going to play FEAR 2 and 3, you honestly won't notice.

Also FEAR 3 Co-Op is AMAZING. I went through as Paxton as my first play-through (it was Co-Op) and thoroughly loved it... he can do so many things to help Pointman (make a shield, occupy a tough enemy, suicide to kill a tough enemy) that it really changes how the game plays.
