What are you playing?

My son got Skylanders this week. It's a lot better game than I was expecting, and the toy interface mechanic is really well done.

Well, looks like it's not quite time to put my Wii in storage. I plan on picking up Xenoblade Chronicles this week.
Watched a bit of a Let's Play on that. Definitely want to give it a shot, looks like a lot of fun.

My brother, who knows I am a die-hard Tales of fan, has been gushing about Tales of Graces (he knows I don't have a PS3). Jerk.

My friend gave me the first Tales game a while ago. Need to start it up again.

Kung Fu Live

Yes, it's a really lame game that got a number of bad reviews, but good lord, it's fun. And I've worked up a hell of a sweat. I don't know if I'll have a good sized room to play it in, but for now, it's gonna be a lot of fun. :D

Yeah, I've been debating picking it up. On one hand, I want Nintendo and other companies to localize weird shit over here but on the other, I'm not big into the JRPGs (but I guess Xenoblade is more of a westernized take on the JRPG).

It definitely plays more like a .hack game or Final Fantasy XII.
That's too bad. Also, I was surprised to see both The Last Story and Xenoblade hit in the same period of time.

Playing--due to a huge delay in when we'll be able to get the baby rat neutered, some funds were freed up and we got a 360. Mass Effect is a lot of fun now that I can see what I'm doing, but it is challenging like I wasn't expecting. I'm happy for that, but these biotic terrorists must have been kicking my ass for an hour last night. I'm taking Wrex next time I try them.

Also at last able to play Left 4 Dead 2 again. My aim's not as great with joysticks as with a mouse--I'll never be top of the line again--but it's just satisfying to be able to play after the years of drought since my gaming computer crapped out. Once I've gotten used to it, I'm gonna get an Xbox Live account and a headset, and hopefully there are decent people on there, not just Halotards.

Offspring Fling - You play a mother whose children have all been scared off by a dinosaur like creature, you have to navigate the various levels and get yourself and your children to the exit. Controls are simple, you pick up children, you throw children. Graphically the game reminds me of Super Mario World 2, and I agree with RPS, if this came out on the Super Nintendo it would have been well worth the $40 or so you would have had to pay. It's currently at $7.99 and there's a free demo on the web site so you can give it a try.

Just booted up the new Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition: Ultimate Super Duper We Added Tons of Shit to the Game and fuck, even the new intro movie is incredibly rad. I'm pretty stoked to dive into this game again.

Definitely watch it HD

I couldn't get into the first Witcher. The controls and camera didn't feel right to me on PC for some reason. I hear nothing but amazing things about 2, though.

Finally finished that buggy mess that is Dead Island. Yeah I still stand by it being a fantastic game... IF THEY HAD FIXED THE ISSUES.

So I played it half-way through with Purna the first time, for obvious reasons. (Hot black chick who specializes in guns? Hell yes) until I realized that all human targets are killable in one headshot regardless of who you are (and where your talents points are) and all zombies take multiple bullet shots, no matter where you hit them, so basically guns = useless. So I switched over to Knife girl, and yeah it was a whole world of difference. A good slicing weapon can easily kill even Thugs/Special infected. It was ridiculous. I blew through the game.

Then I find out that there's an extra DLC. With an entire campaign dedicated to seeing a different side of the story? Color me intrigued until I read about it....

So let's see, what are some of the good things about DI?
Open world you can explore and do quests at your choice.
Co-Op and multiple "class" choices.

Things that sucked about DI?
Guns.

So what's this DLC about?
A linear storyline, with a rail gun style of quest direction, one single character you can use with no Co-Op and he specializes in guns. What. The. Fuck.

Oh and the DLC is $10. Not happening.

It's been said many times before, but a good trailer does not a good game make.

Pity, really. I wanted Dead Island to be great, based on that one trailer alone.

Don't misunderstand my statements, DI was a great game and I don't regret buying it at all. Was it as amazing as the trailer? Well the trailer didn't give us any idea of gameplay so I'd say that's an unfair judgement. However the actual gameplay itself was very solid (when it wasn't glitching) and I spent many late nights chopping my way through zombie hordes. Was it flawed? Sure. Was it perfect? Nope. Was it worth playing? Absolutely. Story was actually pretty decent toward the end too.

Still working on Mass Effect! Slowly but surely... I'm used to JRPG's, and I'm the type that explores every little nook and cranny, completes every stupid side quest, talks to EVERYONE... I've realized I really need to stop doing that in this game as I've put in a couple hours and have gotten no where. :p

Also, during SakuraCon, I started using Street Pass on the 3DS! That was pretty fun! Now I leave it on and see how many people I pass at the mall as I'm starting/ending my work day. :D

Nonononono... talking to people in the Mass Effect games is good. Bioware created an incredibly in-depth universe, and most of it's only found in conversations and the in-game codex. Sure it might not always advance the plot, but the conversations are usually interesting.

Also, if you happen to come across a female reporter who wants to interview you, do remember to talk to her. And do remember to let her know when you've had enough of her snide insinuations.

Ooh ooh I did that part. Also I killed a guy blackmailing the doctor! :D I still talk to a lot of the people, but I keep going in circles talking to the same people, hoping they'll hand over a mana pot after 5 convos. ;) I just realized I was doing more running around and around getting absolutely nothing accomplished than actually playing the game. There's just so much to see!!

edit: Oh wait, maybe I didn't do that part yet. @_@ It wasn't a reporter I was thinking of. So I'll keep that in mind! Usually I go the "super friendly" route, but I'm trying to be mean in this game. >.>

As mentioned in another thread, I'm in the middle of my third recent playthrough of Mass Effect 2, using classes I didn't use before. Right now I'm playing as a Sentinel.

Originally I thought Sentinels suck. Their class ability is Tech Armor? Oh yay, extra protection, the same stuff that Jacob and Grunt get for their loyalty powers. I coulda gotten the same thing with another class, by getting Barrier or Fortification as a bonus power!

But then I realized Tech Armor sends out an energy pulse when it breaks. And it resets squad mates' power cooldowns when you activate it. And Sentinels get the fastest cooldowns among all classes.

So now I'm basically going around spamming powers like it's going out of fashion. I can quite literally go through entire missions without ever firing a single shot. And not deliberately either; powers as a Sentinel are simply so much more effective and versatile than a gun.

I honestly don't know how to play that game any way other than as an infiltrator. My first playthrough of 1 using "the one true shepard" with the soldier class type was the only time I played as another class.

One of these days, I want to try out a biotic based character.

I never liked using anything but an Infiltrator, though in ME2 the stealth thing never did me any good. Haven't picked up ME3 yet, I'll get to that one of these days.

My first playthrough was Infiltrator because that's always what I play first. The Sneaky Assassin/Rogue.

My second playthrough of a game is always the complete opposite. Upfront damage soakers. So this time around I'm a Vanguard. The combination of shotgun+biotics is just too much fun.

In ME1 sniping was practically a cheat, I don't think it was quite as powerful in 2 but still pretty handy. It's been about a year since I played either though, so I could just be remembering wrong.
