Coronavirus Thread

We have curfew now. We have 37 cases. I feel there's something they aren't telling us.
I'm guessing it's that there's really more than 37 cases.
Either that, or there's a cover-up that the town is secretly out of toilet paper.

And despite that we've all worked from home previously, without issue, can be trusted to do so without it impacting performance, we're being required to go in tomorrow. This is actually really frustrating me now. Especially because we got the "Our employee's safety speech is our number 1 priority" on a company-wide meeting Thursday.

Spend the whole time coughing and asking them to turn down the thermostat.

Thankfully my company has been really good about working from home. They basically said unless you have a reason to physically be in the office, don’t be. They also said in person meetings are no longer allowed. Everything must be through zoom.

Last week, my work (call center) put out feelers to anyone who wanted to work from home. I might be able to with some finagling, but it's more likely I'll keep going to the office. I don't really go anywhere aside from work, but on the other hand, call centers are kind of an incubator for the flu and other stuff (the flu went through the whole center last month).

While I'm not particularly concerned about catching Covid-19 myself (I'm relatively young and healthy with no autoimmune issues), I'm concerned about catching it for the sake of my parents, especially my father. Mom is in her early 70s, but active as hell. Dad is in his mid-80s, though, and showing his age. He doesn't take very good care of himself and his health has been diminishing over the years. I don't think we'll have him for many more years as it is, but I'm especially concerned with him catching this, whether it's from me or somewhere else.

I think I'll check with my supervisor tomorrow about working from home. At least I'm fortunate to have that kind of position. Personally, while I know some people like the idea of working from home, I don't. For the sake of my mental health, it helps get me out of the house and socialize with people in person. But, given everything going on, it might be for the best right now.

I can tell you, the last call center I worked in (20 years ago) I got strep throat at least once a month.
From personal experience, I can say that schools and call centers are basically giant incubators. From the short time I worked in schools for my practicum, I think I got pink eye twice.

Went to work. Said I was drinking a tea because I have a throat ache and my sinuses are acting up. Got sent home right away, doctor quarantined me for 7 days. No Corona symptoms at all (it's probably either my allergies or my bi-yearly sinus infection flare up) but no risks and anyone with any respiratory issues has to go into quarantine. Oh well.

I say look at it as an opportunity to catch up on games and movies/shows. Quarantine binge, baby!

Well, yes, up to a point. I get to disinfect the bathroom twice daily, and clean all common areas, every day, and I'm not allowed to sleep in one bed (or even one bedroom) with my gf, so that kind of puts a damper on things, but I am indeed a lucky one who us quarantined without any serious problems.

Yeah I socially distanced for the weekend and it was pretty nice. I don't think I'd mind a week of being a shut-in.

That being said, I'm closing on a house in literally less than 2 weeks so I'd much rather be quarantined there than my current apartment which is significantly smaller.

Not going in to work this morning. Emergency school board meeting last night sent everyone home except essential staff, until Wednesday at the earliest.

I went to Wal-Mart to restock my pantry. The place had been picked over pretty heavily. Heard cashiers talking about a guy that drove up here from Galveston (120 miles across Houston) to buy paper products.

My wife got called in to work today on her day off. One of the ladies she works with is going to take her husband to the hospital. Apparently he's sick and has a high fever...

2 confirmed cases at the hospital nearest me. Today's my first day working from home... though I have to go to a client site every day this week.

Our boss has decided we work far enough apart that it's not a concern. More specifically it's not HIS concern because he's not even here. Nevermind that we pass hard surface materials between multiple individuals as part of the regular day, a great way to spread this that doesn't need to happen since we've worked remotely due to inclement weather before.

But this just isn't important enough.

On our side, Trudeau is making an announcement at 10 am pst, one that's pushing back our own provincial health minister's daily announcement an hour.

Really hoping and expecting that we're getting to lock down point finally.

I have been talking a Claritin-D anytime there is any chance I will be interacting with people because if I don't I look like a watery mess.

Today is the first day of remote schooling. It is...a thing. That is happening.
But I got to be a gym teacher today, so wheeeee?

Looks like international travel bans and no one not a Canadian or PR of Canada is allowed in the country, except a few exemptions including US citizens. Feels like too little, hopefully not too late. The community spread now is my biggest concern personally. This does little to nothing to address that.
