Funny. My MIL did/said more or less the same thing when she did the Great Yankee Migration from NY to FL.

Cranky is cleaning out his closet.
He has vintage Milton Bradley games (Dark Tower, etc) which are all in almost new condition.
...well, they were until he crammed 'em all into the garbage can.
"You know those things are going for $200-400 on ebay, right?"
"Oh, I don't want to be bothered with all that hassle."

:rolleyes::eek::mad::mad::mad:

I still might.

EDIT: Nope. They have since been rendered unsaleable. Father-in-law is also cleaning out the garage (which is where these things were stored).

Mom is going into surgery now. Sister is at the hospital to pass on news while I finish getting prepared for tomorrow.

Original plan was for my sister to take mom to the hospital, but mom can no longer manage the step up she needs to get into my sister's car. So I had to drive in the other car (as soon as my sister mentioned the step, I knew this was gonna happen. No big deal.) I don't know who was the bigger idiot, the people who designed the entrance into the orthopedic surgery center, or the hospital officials who signed off on the design. Parking lot and the sidewalk on hills, plus a wheelchair button to open the door that puts the wheelchair in the way of the door opening. :facepalm:

The actual procedure is in doubt until the docs get a good look at what they're dealing with. According to mom, there's a "button" at the bottom of the knee they need to check to see if they can do it arthroscopically, or if stronger measures are needed.

So, my wife had surgery last Friday. We've had some female relatives of hers over to help her around the house while I'm away at work.

OMG...so much toilet paper usage. I'm having to refill the little stand that holds 5 rolls twice a week.

When I ask for you to e-mail me a copy of the script, it's so I can copy and paste it into the affidavit. Sending me a scanned jpg of the script doesn't help any more than the physically printed out script you gave me the first time. Idiot.

Kati had a migraine today. It was seriously disruptive.
If I'd known she was gonna do this I wouldn't've stayed up until 2:30, since we have to get the kid up at 7 to go to his last (half) day of school today.
Also I wish we had a clinic that was closer.
Walk Kid->School
Drive Kati->Clinic
Oops, the Clinic is taking a long time.
Drive School->Kid
Drive Clinic->Kati
Drive Everyone->Home
All told, 3hrs late to work. At least they're understanding about this sort of thing. Good thing it was a late start today, or else I would've lost the entire day.

Woke up feeling bloated and not hungry, so I decided to skip breakfast.

Get to work, immediately poop upon arrival.

Now, no longer bloated, I've really been wanting an egg mcmuffin for about 3 hours now.

It's going to be one of those days.

This is one of those things that bugs me. This friend of mine is a 3rd degree black belt, Ph.D., an accomplished scientist, and multiple-time women's national kata champion. She posts about an invited international talk, and what does everyone compliment her on? Her looks. Boo.

I don't know. Are we (the public) more surprised that someone who is pretty can do all those things? Or that someone who can do all those things might be pretty?

Or, instead of valuing women for their accomplishments, do we, as a society, put a premium on women's appearance above all else?

I'm of the opinion that first impressions/encounters are driven more by looks than anything else. They make it easier to go from "encounter" to "interaction."
Learned this in college. There was a girl, she reliably had all the right stuff and I'd try to be where I knew she would go between classes just to watch her go by.
A year or so later, she ended up in one of my classes, and I guess the professor might have noticed, because he assigned out group projects and we ended up paired (or maybe it was random chance, but I like to think it was deliberate).
Well, it quickly became obvious that she had an irregular hygiene schedule...and that she was dumb. SO DUMB. Omigod she was so obviously trading on her looks whenever possible and expected me to carry her. FYI I absolutely cannot stand that sort of behavior.
I thanked that prof for the opportunity. I don't know if he knew why. I still wonder if it was deliberate, either because he thought I could benefit from the experience (as in, "Let's see if he still thinks like that after he gets to know her"), or because he was hoping I could help her learn. *I* most definitely learned something from the experience, not so sure about her.
She remained pretty, but she had certainly become much less attractive in my eyes.

First day of break and I forgot to turn off my alarm.

This allows you to go "Ugh, 6 am, I have to...No, wait, YES! MUHAHAHA! THIS BED IS MY CASTLE AND I CAN STAY HERE!". Much preferable to the alternative of "first day back after leave and I forgot to set my alarm and OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT IT'S 9:30 AND I HAD TO BE THERE AT *stumble*fall*crack head*

Went to visit a house today, it's really interesting and I think I like it, my girlfriend did, too...But there's already an offer from someone else, so if we want it, we'll have to decide really quickly, without really having time to visit again or think it through...and definitely pay the full asking price - their offer was "slightly lower than asking, but not much". I hate being pressured like that, and I don't have any way of knowing if there's even really another offer at all. Grr.

It is almost ALWAYS bullshit, unless the house is going for cheap. It's the simplest trick in the book.

Compared to other houses in the same city, in similar state, it is cheap - and was dropped €25.000 just under a month ago. Most houses I've seen either need renovation, or they're a lot smaller...and mind that this is Europe, when I say "renovation" I mean "they're from the 1930s and haven't been redone since they were bombed by the Germans".

That sounds odd, that it appears better than other houses in the area, but had a huge price drop. When we were looking for a house, we found one that looked good and was cheap, but then our buyer's agent poked around in the flower beds and found the termite traps. Nope, nope, nope. He steered us away from that one immediately. Unless houses just aren't selling in your area right now to explain the price drop, I'd be on the lookout for hidden problems.

It was probably more on-point at the original price point, and had been on the market about 5 months (which is normal in the area). According to the agent (of course, that's like saying "according to the used car salesman, this one was driven by an old lady who never went over 50"), the current owners are trying to unload it somewhat faster now, because they're finishing up their new house and keeping up both houses in taxes etc is getting too expensive, plus they need the cash inflow to finish renovations on their new one.

Didn't get to go to the beach with my in-laws because of car trouble. :(

Silver lining? I'm heading for the UK in a few days, and it would have been WAY worse to get stranded in Florida right before my trip.

UK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>FL (Sorry Poe and Terrik)
Yep! I've kind of missed the beach, but maybe next year. Mainly I'm sorry I didn't get to tan my legs a bit for the wedding I'll be attending. I'm LA on top and Ireland on the bottom right now...

I thought of something, typed it, realized it was waaaaaaay to creepy and inappropriate for me, even in joking. Bhamv on the other hand....
