Sweet. I'll have this figured out yet! :D

And I'll make an effort to have our last 2 sessions summarized by tonight/tomorrow (I work on this kind of thing past midnight). I actually started on the previous game's a few days ago but quit because I just couldn't get the words right. (Heh, how hard is it to summarize a DnD game, right?)

Anyway, thanks for all the help. I'll have some changes to you and the summary up before too long.

Side-note: Concerning some stuff from last night, and not getting into details, I propose that when one player wants their character to talk/yell/shove/trip/throw a pie at another player's character, we identify it as such.

Ex: Rather than say "Get out of my way! and I shove you." Instead say "Grendmir says to Saryon Get out of my way! and shoves him." This way there's clear distinction, and people know you're doing it as role-playing the character, not against another player, or meta-gaming, or telling someone else how to play, or anything of any difficulty. All conflict stays between the imaginary beings. It also allows us to be crueler to each other if need be without feelings getting hurt of the "Oh, how could you kill Black Leak?!" variety.
And along those lines, because it's a personal irk of mine, don't go shouting over people when they're speaking. Wait until someone is done talking and then say your piece. It's confusing and wastes time when everyone talks at once. I know lag makes that difficult, but please, let's at least try. Someone will be half way through a sentence and then someone else will blatantly talk over them to try to override what their character is doing. If your character wants to interrupt, fine. But wait until the first person is done saying what they have to say before you go on with your schtick.

I would like to say that I can't help the interrupting. Whatever I say goes out to you guys anywhere from 3-10 seconds later. Anything I say is said during silence-- or at least, I try to make it that way. I want you guys to know that I am never interrupting you people on purpose. That's why I stay quiet throughout most of the game.

I also had an idea:

Astral Fire Feat (Use Fire power - Target becomes vulnerable to cold 5) + Wintertouched (Combat Advantage against enemies vulnerable to cold) = Attack with a fire burst + Attack with a cold burst = +2 Attack and +5 Damage against every enemy hit.

If you had a fire at-will and a cold at-will, every other turn you'd have a +2 ATK and +5 DMG against an enemy, as long as you hit with the fire attack.

Too convoluted to waste the feats right now, though.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

Again I don't like to dictate how people should run their characters. Kratash pushing Adia aside and challenging the little pecker on the throne was as much in character for him as Adia's method was before him. Neither were wrong but there is definitely politer ways to perform an interrupting action like that. Escushion's idea sounds like a good start to just keep things like that less personal. Besides that I just recommend sharing the spot-light.

Grawl was a nasty little boy. I thought his final fate was well deserved. Technically not dead, but also incapable of causing trouble in his current state.

Oh. I also thought that I might give some more information on Demogorgon that might help shed some light on things. Saryon rolled high enough to get this information anyway.

Demogorgon is the two-headed demon prince of chaos. A mighty attack cleaved his once single head in two and they grew back as individual heads, each with a different personality. One more destructive, and the other more coniving and cunning. Cults to Demogorgon are often also split in two factions. A common theme to the cults is inducting, or kidnapping, twins and preparing them to each lead a different faction.

A'right, well here's what I'm finally doing: Taking Implement Expertise: Light Blade, and Weapon Focus: Light Blade, and changing my Burning Spray to Blazing Starfall.

So I finally have a burst At-Will. Wee.

I'll probably retrain the Weapon Focus at level 3 to Astral Fire, so that I can open up a battle with Blazing Starfall, make the enemies vulnerable to cold, then blast them with Ice Dragon's Teeth (also a burst) and get a +5 guaranteed damage bonus.

Furthermore, at level 4 I can take Wintertouched and get a +2 attack on them as well!

Blegh, I dunno, I have a terrible time deciding on feats.

-----------

One final request: Since it doesn't change the function of the game at all, can I change the name 'Blazing Starfall' to 'Starburst'? Serin doesn't strike me as a "summon stars from the sky" kind of person, but more of a "Some star-like thing just exploded between you guys" kind of person.

I know I'm a pain, sorry.

-------

Anywho, 'bout to eat a midnight sn... dinner.. and then work on the summaries. Woo!

-------

PS: Our running gags are awesome.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

While sometimes I describe effects of spells, please feel free to design spells to look however you wish. They are your spells and if you want them to look like something in particular you just let me know. For example, Saryon's spells may involve some sort of Illmatter symbology, such as the hands in the holy symbol of Illmatter enveloping around his enemies. You want a magic missile to appear as a ghostly skull that flies toward it's target? No problem. So long as the type of damage doesn't change it can look like whatever you want.

In 3.5 they used to have a feat called "Spell Thematics" for this. But in all honesty that was a pointless feat because technically being able to shape the look of spells was something players should have had from the beginning. In 4.0 no such feat exists for obvious reasons.

The names and small descriptions of all the powers are just thematic suggestions really. While I recommend keeping the name on your character sheet for reference purposes, feel free to call it whatever you like in character. And if you want the effect to be a sun like object appearing and then exploding, doing devastating damage to enemies than that is absolutely cool with me and encouraged.

And so, the tale of our... heroes... continues!

When we last saw them, our daring adventurers had just departed south, towards the city of Bridgestone.

They trekked onward, weeks going by without incident, until one day when they approached a crossroads. Nearing it, they began to see the remains of a caravan party, now smashed to pieces. Around the debris stood a band of goblins, led by what appeared to be a goblin outfitted for a creature much larger than itself.

Nearing the site, our adventurers hailed the goblins and demanded an explanation for the disaster area. It was apparent that they had attacked a travelling caravan.

The goblin leader, very eloquent for a creature normally known for its grunts of communication, explained only that they had gotten what they came for and wanted no trouble from our adventurers. He promised safe passage in return for ignoring what they had seen here.

The party was instantly torn. Some knew that the goblins had to be put down so that incidents like this could not happen again. Others, spearheaded by Adia, wanted to allow the event to slide and continue onward towards Bridgestone.

The party bickered back and forth for a good number of minutes, before the goblin leader lost his good will. His skin rippling, the goblin shouted for a charge on the party!

The decision made for them, the group armed themselves and prepared for battle. The goblins were hardly a match for the seasoned combatants, until the goblin leader's body began to morph-- he'd shapechanged into a Bugbear! He was followed in suit by another goblin with this mysterious ability, whose body morphed into that of a four-legged beast!

The fight was brief, and as the party picked at the debris of the caravan, the soft cry of a woman's voice could be heard.

Upon inspection, the voice turned out to be that of a woman named Loretta, who held her two babies in her arms. She was the sole survivor of the caravan attack.

She explained that the caravan was on its way to a city many days away. The adventurers eventually decided to postpone their journey to Bridgestone and escort the poor woman and her children to the nearest town, which could be reached by the end of the day.

As night fell, the party slowly came to the small town of Sullenpike, named after the Sullenpike family, one of whom the group met- Gibs, the town guard captain.

Safely depositing the rescued woman at the inn, the adventurers decided to have a talk with Captain Gibs, who informed them that the goblins had been a persistent problem with travelers lately. He offered a reward of 200 gold pieces from his personal savings, if the party could eradicate the goblin raider threat and bring back proof of their deeds.

The party agreed to help and was treated to a free stay at the inn for their trouble. The next morning, they set out, armed with confidence in their task ahead.

Making their way through the forest, following as many signs of goblin presence as possible, our heroes came to find themselves at a clearing.

Suspicious, and perhaps rightly so, the adventurers decided to send Serin into the clearing, shapechanged as the bugbear from the previous day's raid.

Slowly, warily stepping her way through the grass, she began to notice a large number of oddly shaped stones that just didn't seem to belong. One in particular caught her eye-- it was shaped like a human hand. Edging closer to inspect it, she reached down to pick it up-- Only to be ambushed by a cockatrice!

These fabled creatures are known for their deadly ability to turn their victims to stone, and Serin knew she was in trouble with her teammates so far away. Unable to react, the cockatrice attacked and pecked at her mercilessly. A foul presence hung over her as she already began to feel the petrification process take its course.

The elven Adia, always the hunter, had already scaled a tree and was prepared to cover Serin's back should something attack. She launched an attack straight at the reptilian bird, scaring it back into its nest.

Just then, Adia heard the rustling of leaves behind her. Her face full of dread, she turned, only to be confronted with a second cockatrice!

Kratash, hungry for a fight, bounded up the tree to aid his elven comrade.

Blows were exchanged, eventually ejecting the deadly fowl from the tree, allowing the others to wail on it. Grendmir delivered the final crushing blow that crushed the cockatrice's skull in.

This second cockatrice having been defeated, the first one from before came screeching from its nest to avenge its fallen mate. It landed several devastating blows, one of which resulted in Grendmir's turning to stone.

Enraged by the loss of her comrade, Adia let loose an arrow straight through the beast's throat, killing it instantly.

Luckily, some of the party members on hand had heard of a remedy for cockatrice petrification. A combination of a handful of the cockatrice's own feathers and a slathering of mud would reverse the petrification process.

Grendmir, slowly regaining himself, seemed to have no knowledge of his previous statue status, nor any interest in it whatsoever.

Glad to have come out of the encounter alive, the party took a well-deserved rest, while the Halfling, anchored via a rope to Kratash, delved into the cockatrice lair, looking for anything interesting that he might find. At length, he managed to locate a trio of leathery cockatrice eggs. Whether intents set on dinner, fortune, or pets, Errik took them in arm and tugged to rope signaling his desire to return. In true comical fashion, Kratash yanked the little Halfling through the holes back to the surface. He presented his catch, then stowed the eggs into his bag.

Continuing their search for the goblin campsite, the party trekked onward through the forest, eyes open for any suspicious activity.

About an hour later, the group came upon what they had been looking for-- the goblin camp! It was positioned just outside a cave, no doubt their hideout, and was loaded with several goblins, bugbears, and hobgoblins.

The party began to formulate a plan- a surprise attack. Serin, still in disguise, would lead the goblins to the trees, where Adia and several other ranged attacks lie in wait. The two melee members would then assault the surprised goblins.

Readying their attack, the plan was set in motion..

Coolio. :D

Well, it's all pretty much the same and self explanitory, but just for the hell of it, I'll describe what my spells look like:

1) Blazing Starfall / "Starburst" - Just a ball of energy that vaguely resembles what you'd get if you'd plucked a star from the sky and brought it down to earth. It swirls and pulsates for a second before exploding with a thunderous clap, damaging those caught in the blast.

2) Chaos Bolt - A zig-zagging, chaotic bolt of swirling dark energy (resembling the swirling black-and-purple of the Grasping Shadows graphic) that strikes its foe, pelting into them with a poof of dark swirls. On occasion, it strikes the target, disappears into them, then leaps to its next victim.

3) Whirlwind - This is just a miniature tornado that whirls about its targets, whipping up any dirt and debris it can find, lifting those within and dropping them to the ground.

4) Spatial Trip (Teleport) - Serin spins around once, her body flashing brightly at the end of the turn, whereupon she disappears and reappears in a shadowlike spurt (again, the purple-and-black poofs of the Grasping Shadows graphic) in her new location.

5) Dazzling Ray - Serin flicks her arms out, releasing a shaft of blinding light from either hand. The light rays fly out, mirroring each other, until Serin jerks her hands back inward, causing the rays of light to streak inward towards their target, before intersecting, striking through their victim, and dissipating outward.

Next Level:
6) Ice Dragon's Teeth - A chilling wind swirls in its burst zone, freezing the air around it into a chunk of ice, which then cracks and explodes in deadly shards outwards.

Now to summarize Session 4..

Session 4

When we last left our heroes, they were preparing a surprise attack on the goblin camp by luring them into the trees, where the adventurers lie in wait, ready to strike.

The goblins, taking the bait, crept towards the trees, drawing their weapons. Her job finished, Serin, still disguised as a bugbear, made her way along the edge of the goblin camp to gain a better vantage point for attack.

The battle started out badly. Our heroes’ blows consistently failed to hit their marks, while the goblins’ weapons struck true.

The battle took a turn for the better, however, and the adventurers managed to fell the goblins. The party had left two goblins alive to use for questioning. Kratash, however, decided that you only need one goblin to get answers.

After a short rest, the party decided it was time to enter the cave and stop the goblin threat once and for all. Again deciding to use Serin as a scout, she stepped into the darkness first.

Her eyes taking a moment to adjust to the darkness, she peered about inside. The cave was empty, devoid of the goblin community the group had expected to see. All that was inside was a sinister effigy constructed next to the wall. It consisted of a pillar of human skulls, stacked several feet high. Alarmed, but relieved to find no goblins, Serin called the rest of the party in.

After a brief inspection by Saryon, the elven cleric indicated that this dark structure was a shrine to the dark god Demogorgon, the two-headed demon prince of darkness. Now beginning to question just what they were dealing with, the party sent their disguised bugbear friend to explore the rest of the cave.

Serin scampered quickly through the cave’s passageways, coming to a sudden stop at the entrance of the first room. She was startled to see a pair of cockatrices in some cages along with a duo of feline-like hyena creatures she recognized as Crenshaws. But most surprising of all was a small, ten-year-old boy dressed in dark gothic armor sitting atop a throne of skulls. He looked bored, but raises his head to speak to the bugbear that had just stepped into his lair. “What have you to report?” he queried.

“We- We were attacked. But we took care of it!” Serin managed to stammer before scampering off, frightened. Upon returning to her party, Serin revealed what she had seen. Realizing they were now dealing with something much bigger than merely a band of goblins, the group decided to check out the rest of the cave to make sure there would be no surprises upon confronting the boy king.

The group discovered a room of four hobgoblins training with their morning stars. The beasts were burly and menacing, but the party was undeterred. Shouting out a barrage of insult to grab the creatures’ attentions, the party armed themselves in the narrowest part of the passage to bottleneck their enemies on one side.

Their plan worked perfectly, though the beasts did not seem to have much intelligence in the first place. The nearest one to the party trained a beastly eye upon the party. With a hearty bellow, he shouted, “PLAY-THIIIIIIIIINGS!” and charged the party.

Errik opened up with a Grasping Shadows, slowing the creatures to a mere crawl. This provided the edge the party needed to destroy this threat in a matter of minutes.

Content that there would be no more surprises for them, the party returned to confront the small boy king.

Upon their entrance, the boy perked up immediately, his Crenshaws growling ferociously. Adia stepped forward to make first contact, kneeling and addressing the boy formally.

Kratash, disgusted by Adia’s polite treatment to this boy who clearly had something wrong with him, shoved the ranger aside and shouted at the boy, “Who are you and what are you doing here!?”

The boy identified himself as Grawl, and revealed that his sole purpose was to wreak as much havoc and destruction as possible, and would employ any who sought to aid him in this conquest.

Kratash was enraged by this and charged the boy, but was immediately struck down by the boy’s hyenas.

Laughing heartily, the boy raised his oversized club and pointed it at the fallen Kratash, blasting the Dragonborn with powerful force, sending him sliding across the floor to one of the cockatrice cages, where the beast savagely attacked him.

Adia took this opportunity to attempt to engage the boy king in conversation to gain more answers. Seeing that boy knew little more than destruction, the party decided to attack. The fight raged on, Grawl landing many painful blows. But in the end they managed to get the boy under control and restrained him. Questioning him further, the group realized that the boy would not be able to be set free without him continuing his actions.

Acknowledging this and losing his patience, Saryon dragged Grawl by his legs to the cockatrice cage. The boy showed no remorse for his actions. With a final grunt of anger, Saryon hurled the boy into the cockatrice cage.

The party looked on as the boy was inevitably turned to stone. Thinking he might serve as an adequate trophy and perhaps more proof, the group lugged the petrified boy back to town, along with a severed goblin head.

Uninterested in the statue, and in fact perplexed by it, Gibs happily accepted the goblin head, however. The party was paid their 200 gold and were allowed another free stay at the inn.

While sitting and reminiscing upon their various stories, there came a sudden knock on the door. Opening the door warily, Gibs was confronted by none other than his father! This was made far more surprising due to the fact that his father has been dead for years. He’d returned from the dead!

He asked for our adventurers specifically, and revealed unto them the story of the Devourer, the dark threat that the skeleton form before, now learned to be the famed adventurer Marcus, one of the only six to ever escape the tomb of the powerful Asarack.

He revealed that the tapestries the party had taken now represented the Devourer’s power. The closer the figure on the tapestry gets, the closer the Devourer is to returning. The adventurers were directed to the town of Bridgeport, where they were heading anyway, to find a man by the name of Sir Sirius Oathbearer with a connection to the Church of Palor for more answers. And with that, the man disappeared from the inn, to finally obtain an eternal rest.

The party now has a lot to think about. They have been charged as the sole saviors of this world. What lies ahead of them? What perils will they face? What is this Devourer? Find out next time in Session 5 – Welcome to Bridgeport!

Bahh, I don't want to wait for next Thursday!

I wanna go to Bridgeport! And find out what Errik's Tome is! And sell our stuff and get monies! And find this Sirius guy! And get me a magic dagger of some sort! And.. Bah I dono. :bush:

-- Sat Jun 06, 2009 9:09 pm --

Here's what I have written for my notes from last session:

2 Potions of Healing
100 gp
126 exp
260 gp
Wood/iron magical greatclub - Life Drinker Great Club
- +1/+1 | Reduce to 0 HP + 5 temp HP | Crit: 1d6 Necrotic Damage
Power Jewel: Daily - Re-Use Encounter
2 vials of green liquid
242 exp
Cockatrice Feathers

So it looks like we got 126 + 242 = 368, + the 9 we had, so 377 exp.

Total gold 360 I think, so 60 to each of us.

We need to identify the vials still, sell the club, annnd.. Sell whatever stones etc. we've found.

Does anyone have a complete list of everything we've found and who has what?

I terms of item loot, I have 1 Potion of Healing, and the Power Gem.

-- Sat Jun 06, 2009 9:12 pm --

Oh, and the 200 gp from Gibs, so 33 gp and 3 sp to each from that.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

The exp sounds right, the gold doesn't.

We got 200 gold for the slime, 100 for goblins, 200 from Sullenpike, which should put us at 500 told. That should put us each at 83 gold and 3 silver, not counting whatever you had left over from buying initial items. We haven't sold anything yet, so that should get us more gold soon.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

I'm doing a quick little sum-up of Stullenpike Senior's information about "The Devourer". I've tidied it up a bit.

"The Devourer, a title which I might add is quite deserved, was once a powerful lich by the name of Acererak. Born a half demon, Acererak thirsted for greater power unlike any mortal being before him, to which becoming a Lich was only the first step. Acererak needed worthy souls to fuel his dark plans. To meet this requirement he used demons bound to his will to build a tomb dedicated to himself that promised riches to all who would dare traverse it. This tomb was actually a demented death trap that would weed out those not worthy enough to face the Lich directly, but considering the fate of those who would meet the Lich, the ones who died to the traps were the lucky ones. Just as his plot reached near completion, a band of heroes defeated him. Of them six survived. Markus you've met. He left with his life, and the knowledge that he had quite literally saved the world. But now Acererak is returning. He's already done away with Markus' soul in the Shadowfell. Right now you six are the world's only hope of defeating him. You must go to Bridgeport and seek out the Temple of Pelor. There you must ask of the fate of Sir Sirius Oathbearer. Use this amulet as proof that you are worthy of the information they give you. Any information you receive may lead you to the other four survivors or information needed to confront and defeat Acererak before he can return"

You folks will be in Bridgeport next session so if anyone has anything specifically in mind they would like to do while in Bridgeport please post it here. It is a large enough city to cater to most needs. I already assume a trip to the Temple of Pelor will be likely.

Wow, I really need to check up on names and spelling before I post summaries.

Oh well, I'll get better.

Anywho.

We're still gonna have Fabio right? You're not going to use your DM wiles to take him away from us, are you??

Well anyway, as far as I know, as far as 'mundane' matters go, we need to sell our various gems and get our monies, Grawl's club we found, and whatever else we're selling.

I also believe we wanted to try to find a powerful enough wizard/sorceror/scholarly type to help identify Errik's tome. Serin's particularly interested in it, and would like to go with Errik to identify it if that's not done as a party.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

I'm starting a new thread with the purposes of summing up everything on a single page. Unfortunately this requires condensing Doom's great summaries but I hope he is still encourage to write them. I'd like for him to post them on the new thread as well.

Also it's a group effort. Anyone who has things to add about their characters on the front page can PM me with details and I'll make the changes. It's kinda coming together like a Wiki. Post anything regarding your characters. Journals, summaries, artwork, whatever.

No no no.

I've got it!

All we have to do is steal from people who are ALREADY popular!

"The Whom"

"The Waterbugs"

"The Tumbling Boulders"

Actually, I like the Company of Discord.

Seeing as we've had arguments in front of a goblin camp AND a demon boy already (though they are dead), I see a high liklihood of someone that matters deciding to call us this. Maybe after Bridgeport we could gain this title. :D

"Fabio and the Company of Discord" - See? Has a ring to it.

Shawnacy's 4E D&D Game!

I don't have a problem with Company of Discord. I really like the idea that someone else dubs us with the name though :D. We'd be trying to come up with a name, as the important people go "Ah, there's the Company of Discord." And then we argue about how we should be coming up with a name so people will stop calling us that, but the name spreads as our reputation does, and soon enough we're stuck with it.

I also foresee more arguments in front of our enemies. Many adventuring companies have in-group arguments, but most have the grace to save face and not do it in front of goblins, bugbears, even hell-children, and demon gods. But not the Company of Discord! We let it all out, grudges and all. You know how you go over to someone's house to hang out, and then the owner and their significant other start fighting with you and other people present, and it's really uncomfortable to be there, but you can't just leave without saying goodbye, and no way in hell you're gonna get in the middle of that fight, so you and everyone else just stay there and try to keep to the side while waiting for the awkwardness to settle?

We're that angry couple! The Company of Discord.

HAHAHA, holy CRAP I just became ecstatic.

I just realized that with a Wisdom 13, I can Multiclass Druid and take the At-Will power Wild Shape, which means that I can transform into any medium beast-creature. So I'll be able to shape-change any medium-sized living thing. :D

So, come level 4, I will add +1 to my Wisdom, getting a 13, and use the feat to get the Multiclass Druid. I can't cast my spells in the form, but I can still use the form as a disguise.

Oh god, I can't wait.
