i had heard they were making a DB/DBZ mmorpg. I'd love that too.. I'd go crazy gaijin otaku on it, my favorite anime next to Akira. Got tons of the original manga in original japanese, some of the rare items like the #7 daizenshou, almost the entire first series of DBZ action figures released in america, etc

Oh well guess I will get the game then since I wasn't able to get a beta.

I still think it would have been cool similar along the lines of Bridge Commander. Where you get to wander around the ship and choose a class from their.

In MMo's that I've tried I'm usually a support type class.

it is not too bad :) I can move very well and ship combat is not to shabby. Since I don't have any idea what I am doing (well more or less) I kinda pick skills that I wanted and not "min/max" my character :) I decide to go tactical and get officers to fill in the void :)

So they don't penalize you much if you loose your ship and part of your crew?

So far there appears to be no death penalty. Maybe its not there for beta but theres not much to lose.

In FPS combat, if you die your party keeps fighting, and you can try to have one of them revive you, if possible. In ship combat, if your shields fail and you can't mitigate damage to the hull before it hits 0%, your ship explodes and you die. You are simply presented with a Respawn option after 20 seconds, where you spawn back in a pre-determined spawn point for whatever Sector you are in, with full shields and full hull health.

hopefully theres some death penalty at launch.. its a bit TOO easy at the moment. thats not a bad thing but a little challenge would be nice

hmm.. maybe with EVE style of insurance of your ship if not, you are stuck with basic equipment.

You know, everyone keeps asking for harsher death penalties in MMOs, and I agree. However, I think after a few deaths, thousands of consumers are going to clamor for the old, easy way.

I think it has to do with people actually knowing how to play the game and winning vs just zerg it until it dies (no death penalties) and just respawn over and over until you win. If there are penalties then people will work better together rather than having part of the member with "zerg zerg zerg" vs, "lets do this one right the first time"

I know I got tired of transcontinental corpse runs in EQ. Not to mention hitting level 54 calling out to the guild "Ding! 54!" Then get killed right away, "Ding! 53!" Then you are stuck in a sector that you are too low lvl to survive, Ding 52!

Penalties suck, especially when a game is broke-ass like EQ. Most MMO's are pretty broken when they launch.

Ok.... so I reformatted my D: drive again, hoping the slowdown was on my end. Apparently it's not something I can fix on my end, as doing this only marginally helped. I'm probably going to check the lag situation every so often, but right now I am just sick and tired of Cryptic doing this with EVERY game they release.

where are you again? I'm in Texas and not getting lag at all. My screen doesn't stutter and I have on 1680x1080

Ohio, on broadband. It seems to be tied to how many people are in the same area as I am... and oddly enough, I can actually turn the graphics to max out in space and be lag free, but the moment I hit the ground, it's like I'm moving in molasses. Turning the settings to minimum doesn't do anything.

I think there was an option (I remember seeing it flash) that you can "choose" your instance when on land, that is something you might want to look into. See if you can choose your instance instead of automatic. that might help.

Tried it. It doesn't work because even with 10-20 people, I'm still looking at around 20-60 characters running around because of the Away teams. Add in the spawns and NPCs and it's a nightmare.

This is just like Spectral Tigers in WoW:

How do you spot the most pathetic loser on your server? He's the one with the Borg chars.

Well, the people with spectral tigers might have simply won them in a pack of cards rather than purchase the single card from ebay or some other place.

Has anyone pre ordered the collector's edition of this yet? It looks like a pretty good packaged deal.
I'm stuck between this and ME2 for the PC currently.

They're still spending money for ingame "show-off-ness". Whether it was $400 for the card or super uber lucky man spent $3.00 on a pack and go it. I'm willing to bet 98/100x it was the former.

I'd be honest, I spent 40$ to buy a case of those cards... and I found a copy. I ebayed that shit the next day... for 750$ American (close to 900$ canadian) for a trading card!
I sold the rest for 10$ too.. i thought the card game sucked anyways

That Borg class has solid perks though.

If STO sticks around, and you continue to play that's a damn good deal. It's not just paying money for a special class, it'll save you money in the long run.

You're right, after 2yrs it pays off. Tell that to all the people who tried selling their "lifetime memberships" of Conan, Champions Online and LOTRO.

Like I said, if STO sticks around and you keep playing it it would be worth it. It's a big if, and I wouldn't buy into it, but I've been playing WoW for over 2 years so it's not unheard of.

I'll probably buy the Collectors Edition, the bonus in-box goodies are worth it but I wouldnt do lifetime, I mean another MMO could always come along or something. Its monetarily a good deal if you plan on playing for two years at least, cause you end up saving money versus paying monthly, its just a rather large investment that a lot of people can't do prior to Feb 2nd. Now if I had a month, a full month to get my bills out of the way and save up some, I'd consider it but with just a couple weeks left, theres no time on my budget to fit it in, though I can afford the CE.

It definitely needs a little spit and polish, and I know a good chunk of the content isn't there in the OTB, I mean the level cap is 16, thats like not even half (I cant remember if true cap is 40 or 60), plus Genesis hasn't been launched yet by Starfleet. They've got the foundation for a good game, they just need to strongly build on it, they're good about fixing bugs quickly, correcting gameplay mechanics or adding ones that should be there, is something we (the STO community) hope they will do.

I don't see myself playing WoW again, at least not for a while. Its just too much grinding.. I had to grind a shit ton of emblems to get a decent PvE gear setup, so i could grind out the stuff I needed for PvP. Well I got about half of my pvp gear with emblems but since certain pieces aren't available I'd have to fill in those gaps with honor points gear which is decent but takes forever to get on my server and battlegroup (fucking horde man.. love being outnumbered 4:1..). Which sucks cause I really wanted to get into 5v5 arena..

Got my beta key, so expect some pretty negative shit from me in the next couple of days (I'm calling it now)

Looks like my computer's borked, not STO. Just tried TF2 and it too was slowed to a crawl. I think it might be my HD giving out. I'm going to format the entire thing and see if it helps... if it doesn't, then I'm replacing the thing with one I have laying around. If THAT doesn't fix it, then it's ether my motherboard or video card... and if it's those, then I'm fucked as I don't have the cash to buy a new one of ether.

Wow... that is awesome. Just pure luck there.

You've formatted it so many times though, I wonder if that's had any negative impact.

I've actually only formatted it twice this year: Once In November when Steam had the error and messed up everything and now. Before that, I hadn't had to do it for 2-3 years... so it's not like I'm doing it all the time. However, I've been using this HD for something like 5 years and it was second hand, so who knows how old it actually is.

Gentlemen, we have subscription rates:

OK, 15 dollars a month. Same as WoW. Kinda suspicious about the lifetime subscription thing though. "If you pay us this crap load of money, you can play this game forever, two extra character slots get a special character! But remember: this offer only lasts UNTIL THE GAME IS RELEASED!"

Don't you get the feeling this sounds like a scam? I can totally see the game being a flop, and the people with the special characters being mocked endlessly by the ones whose subscriptions have not ran out until they are left alone waiting for the server shutdown.

A lot of MMOs are doing that. Lifetime subscription until release. It's not exactly a scam, but you are gambling on whether you'll like the game. This is easy money for the developers in case their MMO dies earlier than expected.
