Star Trek Online

However, if the game takes off (like LOTRO) those lifetime subscriptions are well worth the money. Especially when the dev's throw extra things in after launch... LOTRO founders got free, early mounts during the first Winter Festival. This is as broken as it sounds.

My character is a fat Andorian named Guts Gutsmander. He's the last of his class in starfleet who only graduated because of his one skill, seducing old, desperate women. So, he boned his way through every vice admiral in starfleet.

I kind of hope you can focus on space combat more than the terrible ground stuff. I like the space combat. Reminds me of a simplified old school bridge simulator game.

Definitely feels like a few months off from being a solid MMORPG. I'll play it some more during the beta, i see they patch it regularly, not too sure if I want to buy it at its current state.

The fact they want a lifetime subscription only available in pre-lease is criminal for fans of the ST universe who want to play a potentially stable and fun game in the future.

Haven't been able to log in once today. This does not bolster my confidence in this MMO being ready in 2 weeks.

Seriously?

Read the forums, the devs said the server(s) hit full capacity, thats why you cant log in sometimes, cause its full.

Shit if I recall right, WoW had massive queues to log into a server at one point, so lets not be hasty.

At least they had queues. It wasn't just, "Server is busy. Fuck off." every time I tried to log in. A queue would have given me a time frame of when I would get to play.

Also, ground combat is still terrible as hell.

Space combat is fun.

Space combat is fun as hell. Ground combat... is pretty lackluster. Login servers are inefficient. I found many bugs and the controls are odd. I found myself setting up like it used to play for WoW. lol

I finally get to log in some more today. I am level 5 now :) woo. The space combat IS a lot of fun. I join in Station 24 which is a HUGE combat area with a bunch of ships. It was awesome.

Man, this game really has me torn. If this were a purely space based MMO, where i got to go around whooping ass with Star Trek surroundings (please do not point me to Eve, I do not want to play a game that plays itself while you're away and takes literally weeks to travel across), I would be on this shit day one with a smile on my face.....but then, I am brought back crashing down to harsh reality when I am forced into one of those terrible ground missions.

Sigh.

I played a few decent ones.... it's just that they feel clunky as fuck. This worries me as a lot of work needs to be done to make it not suck.

And holy crap do they need to work on some of the glaring horrific bugs.

I've had to do the same mission like 4 times because I will complete the damn quest. Leave the fucking system and it won't register in the quest itself. Then I gotta do it again. This is ridiculous. I don't want to fight 3 Negh'vars and 4 Kting'gas with only 5 dinky Mirandas again. That's just smashing up against the wall over and over till we clog their instruments with our wreckage and finally win.

I was actually hoping to post the video of him saying, "WAVE AFTER WAVE!" but couldn't find it on Youtube.

Also, battle for Starbase 24. Awesome. My away team refusing to beam aboard the starbase with me, no fucking awesome at all.

This game is a disgrace.

Straight up. It's going to be the buggiest, most terrible launch for a game in history.

Cryptic should be ashamed of it's current state.

Jack Emmertt only cares about his "vision", not your petty complaints. Which is why the only good game he's ever been part of was City of Heroes AND why he left in a hissy fit when everyone wanted to fix it.

Sent it to you.

God damn it, now my away team doesn't even show up. I can't do away missions anymore. It's getting really, really aggrivating. They expect people to pay money for this game in a week?

Nice, I get that fucking away mission crash bug and when I go to log back in..."Server is busy. Fuck off."

Fuck this game. I'm glad I got a beta key, now I know not to have anything to do with this horseshit, ever.

You strike me as the "ragequit" type of L4D games. I honestly gave you more credit than that Frankie.
I've played a lot of betas for MMOs over the years. This one is by far...by far...BY FAR the most buggy, unfinished, unpolished, half-assed pile of mediocre crap I've ever seen. I'm not mad, I'm relieved I'm not like a couple of my friends that pre-ordered this crap. I might give it a shot 6 months to a year down the line when it might not be complete shit, but until then, fuck this game. Cryptic should never have tried to make so many MMOs at once. It shows. Champions sucked ass and so does this.

For the record, I have never ragequit a L4D match. My regular group and I have a blast in there, even when we get worked by an excellent team. I do, however, have little tolerance for things that don't work. This game doesn't work. It's not going to work for a long time.

Well obviously you're not going to rage with a "regular group".

Oh and that horrid white backround on your avatar has been driving me nuts:

There.

Well, maybe Cryptic will make me eat my words. They have done a remarkable job of fixing many of the server side issues already. The game is far more playable today than it was yesterday. Now, I'm a-fearin' that there isn't much more to see content wise. The battle at Starbase 24 was super fun and so far, it's the only one like it I've seen and I'm on the cusp of getting the next level of ship (Lieutenant Commander 1).

Ha ha, I run my off and login server crashes and stays down for 45 minutes.

This after I was at the very end of grinding through a mission where I have to take on 8 squads of klingons.

Sigh.

yea they are fixing stuff but they are also not really doing much else..

like, the entire game is instanced, i thought maybe towards in game there would be less of that.. there is not.. its alllllllllll instanced

the maximum number of people you will ever play with is 50, so far..

If your away team doesn't show up, use the following method
1. type /fillpetteamlist - this SHOULD beam down your pre-set away team

2. beam out, then choose CONTINUE quest and you will have your away team. DO NOT hit F to enter sector, that will reset the quest.

So? In that way the game stays playable.
Yea but it could be so much more.. I hate it when they cram all the content of a mmo in instances and its not a persistent world..
Instances give better performance. I'd rather have a game that runs well than one that has lots of people running around, doing nothing.
It's not always about performance though.

Look at the hundreds of MMO's that have existed, some successful some not, that had a single persistent world. Hell, WoW its the chief one of this. It has some instances but the majority of it is one big world. Sure, Dalaran is a lag fest for the average player's PC, but it works. their servers handle it fine, my ping in Dal is around 100-120, which is acceptable.

Cryptic will, at least at first, rake in tons of cash from STO just because it's Trek, I think they can afford dedicated servers. I expect heavy instancing like this from something like, Guild Wars, where the world is not persistent, and of course there is NO monthly fee since there are no X amount of servers to upkeep..

but you can talk with people in different "instance" of the same location. It is better for people who have older PC (which happen)

Blizz has also said the reason the whole zone beneath Dalaran has almost zero quests is because it's such a resource hog. They originally wanted the Argent Tournament there, but moved it because of Dalaran.
