The local Froyo shop is now being turned into an Ice cream shop. Ron Swanson was right, Froyo will never beat Ice Cream.
We're making our way through the series right now. That ep was last week.
When I saw it, I was reminded of this reddit thread.

I had a similar thought this week after someone expressed shock that savory and sweet flavors could go well together...

Indeed, and most people put it on savory foods, like meat. Yet, are still shocked at things like Parmesan cheese ice cream.
I know a place where you can get Sushi flavored Ice Cream....seriously.
I don't even taste the sweetness of ketchup anymore, just the spiciness. Even then, I generally mix it with sriracha and chili powder to get the kind of flavor I want.
What? Ketchup and Sriracha are both great on their own.
I don't like "Hunt's" brand ketchup though, it has an odd flavor.
I'm something of a Ketchup connoisseur...
Heinz: Spiciest of the name-brands. It's high vinegar and acid content ensures you don't actually need to refrigerate it (and doing so actually disrupts the 'spiciness' by interfering with the acid action).
Hunts: Middle of the road... it's not very spicy but it's much sweeter than Heinz. Doesn't hold as well outside of the fridge.
Del Monte: This stuff is pure sugar. If you want your ketchup to taste like candy, this is the brand for you.
If you're getting ketchup at a restaurant, it's Heinz everywhere EXCEPT McDonalds, who dropped the brand once the Heinz holding company bought a major investment in Burger King.
But yes, I add Sriracha to my ketchup. I like the heat.
Simply Heinz is better in every way, if you're willing to pay the surcharge for the real sugar.I learned something this morning.

Some companies make special spicy brands too. For instance, Heinz makes a brand with Tabasco built in. It's okay... I prefer sriracha to Tabasco.
What can I say? I'm a weirdo and actually go out of my way to try and find the small brands. Generally speaking, the better the acid and vinegar content, the spicier it will be and the better it will do outside of fridge. Hell, one of the reasons restaurants buy Heinz is BECAUSE of how well it holds up outside of refrigeration. It would be a pain to put it all away every night.
What you call spicy I would call tangy and in no way related to spice. Sirracha is spicy, vinegar is not.
That's fine, you can be wrong all you like!
But seriously though, the reason why these factors matter is they help preserve the garlic, cayenne, and other spice flavors over time. Without a high acid and vinegar content, your spice profile breaks down and the entire thing becomes very sweet. This is the problem with Del Monte: low vinegar and acid content, so it comes out tasting syrupy sweet unless you get it straight from the factory. The vinegar helps preserve the taste of the spice, even if it's tart/sweet itself.
However, yes... when I say Heinz is "spicy", it's only compared to the other name brands. If you want actual heat or spice, you need to buy the indie brands or make your own.
When I visited people in Pittsburgh, my friend found that someone purchased a bottle of Hellmanns mayo instead of Heinz. He got so mad he ended up whipping the bottle at the ground where it promptly exploded. He was obviously drunk at the time, but the loyalty people from that area have to Heinz is kind of insane.
I've heard good things. I can't get it out here in Ohio. No Whataburgers so no reason to sell the ketchup.

You might like this stuff. Our local Kroger started carrying it a month ago or so, and I like the taste. I used to top my ketchup with Sriracha as well, but this is pretty swell.
