I always mess that up because Phantom is an opera that's a musical, while Les Miserable is a musical that's technically an opera. All the years they were neighbors on Broadway and in every Broadway ad for decades... my brain is old.

To be fair, when I looked over his filmography, like 80% to 90% of it is an action movie of some sort, if we include stuff like How to Train Your Dragon in the action category (cause there's animated action), as well as disaster movies like Geostorm and Greenland (cause he gets involved in some action in them). So you're only being 10% to 20% hyperbolic.

Wow, that is just chock full of bits from the games.

They go to so much trouble to incorporate all that stuff, and then just slap Chris Pratt on it... I don't even hate Chris Pratt, he's a great Starlord, but he's not bringing anything to the character of Mario.

Yeah he's the one stinker in what otherwise looks really good. Not gonna let him drag it down for me though. All the little nods are enough on their own and everyone else feels like they're doing great.

I don't hate him, he just feels over-saturated at this point and like he doesn't try for his voice roles. That said I'm not giving shit to Charlie Day who isn't changing his voice at all but it just fits better.

I think I'm developing a crush on Princess Peach from the trailer alone.

Also I want to see a Smash Bros reference, for example Mario spiking an enemy down a ledge.

I wonder what Mario's backstory will be in the movie? I'd love it if he were currently a plumber, but also had a string of other jobs like construction worker and exterminator, who has rescued a woman from a gorilla.

I'm pretty sure Donkey Kong Country isn't canon, and why you don't see any characters that originated in those games like Diddy in any Nintendo titles today outside of SMASH as third party (or I guess second party in this case) characters. The rights to those extra characters might be murky since Rare invented them and not Nintendo.

That's always what I thought as well but is that not Cranky sitting on the throne watching over the fight, and IMDB lists him as in it with Fred Armisen voicing.

Oh weird, they put posters out today as well and in DK's Diddy and Dixie are also in it, in the bottom right corner. Maybe just cameos though?

If this is the start of the NCU, and we somehow get a good Legend of Zelda film, then count me in.

But there’s a lot that needs to happen for that to work, and I’m not too optimistic. I think this is going to be total shit.

I wouldn't need the Smash Bros movie to be very good. Just give me a movie-length feature of various characters knocking each other off platforms in hilarious and awesome ways, and I'll be happy.

No joke, I have watched a Youtube video called "One Hour of Samus Spikes and More" in its entirety. It is an hour and eighteen minutes of one Smash Bros character spiking enemies downwards to their doom. I watched this. It's not even a particularly good demonstration of Samus's spikes, as the level of skill of Samus's opponents isn't very high, nor is the Samus player very good. But I watched it, and I found it satisfying, and I would like to watch more of this in a movie.

Man... I never really realized just how bad my taste in movies is.

I just saw the new trailer last night as a pre-roll on YouTube…and I have to agree! Bowser is great, Peach is great, Luigi is great, even Toad is great, but then we switch over to Mario and it’s like someone told him to channel Mario, and instead he somehow misheard that as “Steven Wright.”
