Not yet, but soon--I dropped by the local gaming/anime/nerd store and they had the first two seasons of Attack on Titan. Putting them on the Plex server at this very moment.
hopefully you didnt pay a huge mark up.Not yet, but soon--I dropped by the local gaming/anime/nerd store and they had the first two seasons of Attack on Titan. Putting them on the Plex server at this very moment.
Nope...cheaper than I could get them from Amazon by 50-75% (depending on the seller) which is why I snatched them up. I've been eyeballing them on Amazon for months (mostly region 2 sellers), but couldn't bring myself to pay that much for them. I didn't mind so much they were Region 2, because I have one of those rare DVD drives that doesn't give two shits what region a DVD is marked as (and, in fact, I bought this specific brand for that exact reason).hopefully you didnt pay a huge mark up.
nice, one of the fancy editions? the current season 1 and 2 set from "crunchyroll" aka the company formerly known as funimation is roughly 27 dollars on right stuff, so you paid like 14 bucks a set?Nope...cheaper than I could get them from Amazon by 50-75% (depending on the seller) which is why I snatched them up. 12.99 a season. I don't know enough about them to determine if it's a "fancy" edition. These are both branded with funimation, though.nice, one of the fancy editions? the current season 1 and 2 set from "crunchyroll" aka the company formerly known as funimation is roughly 27 dollars on right stuff, so you paid like 14 bucks a set?
and it got, what? 3 sequels? ive watched them all and they just get worse.I've been trying to watch a classic series I always meant to get around to, but never did - Record of the Lodoss War. And like so many of these great classics, they show how far the medium has improved in general over the last 20-30 years.
It seems to me that Anime in the 90s and earlier were generally done by artists and not writers or cinematographers. There's a common thread in a lot of them. Aspects like overly-long establishing shots, lingering close-ups, long stretches of silence punctuated by overexpository narration, terrible pacing, and above all really bad voice acting. So much anime of the era got by on "hey, doesn't this LOOK cool?" factor, sort of like how most MMOs of the era were actually clunky, terrible games with excruciating gameplay but amazing-for-the-time graphics and character design.
Lodoss is exemplary of this era. It's almost a chore to watch. If any series needs an "abridged" treatment, it's this. Any given 24 minute episode really only needed 8 minutes to hit all its marks. The dub acting is particularly cringe, and is probably a historical contributor to why dubbed anime generates such strong negativity among the ultraweebs. There is not a single VA who is NOT trying to chew the scenery with every single line, overpronouncing every single word, and usually with completely incorrect emphasis and inflection - as if they were fed the lines in a vacuum without the script. Seriously, most Hentai I've watched - even from the same era - has better acting and better story pacing.
What a shame.
It got a second season/series with 27 episodes, and I guess a short movie/quasi-spinoff series called Legend of Crystania, neither of which I think I'll be bothering with at this point.and it got, what? 3 sequels? ive watched them all and they just get worse.
The full Kongming version has finally been released, and it continues to faithfully mirror the Jolly original.I searched a bit more and I believe I found the direct source:
I think it's because nothing quite like that had been attempted before, so it was mindblowing. Like the Wright Brothers' first flight at Kitty Hawk. World-changingly influential... but today an airplane with that capability would be a monstrous failure.Man, I remember loving Record of the Lodoss War as a kid. I haven't seen it since I was a tween though when I rented it and fucking Adventure Kid (what an eye opener this was for 12 year old me) from my neighborhood mom and pop video store.
